Vanguard? housing/econmy/fun?

Iwas looking for new mmo for myslef couze sick of wow, nothing to do at lvl70, and 25 man raids are pure : .

So was looking lotr, eq2 maybe, and here comes Vanguard from nowhere...

I heard it had some bad beggining, but how is it now?

1. economy? Is it something to do when not having what to do. Or is it live economy? With need in crafters?

2. housing? i sow video of biulding houses, and collecting resourses for it! and it is so COOL! Is it instanced housing, or like UO?

3, Fun factor? Is there anything to to do, when you hit cap lvl? is there any end games? instances? And can you solo in it? or its like wow? hit 70, make few heroics, get some gear, and then sit in orggimar, and inspect ather people for 4 hours, till raid, and then find out that raid is cancelled that not enought people online, so you just do what you did 4 hours before)

4, Is it sinking ship? Or community growing? couze review in this website said very bad things. that they started with 200k subs, and after few months ended with 50k subs :(

 5. PVP, how does it work in there? "teddybearcare" system like WoW, or something more brutal, and more interesting, with some death pennaltys, and equipment loss? :)

Ty lads for all info! hopefully ill choose this mmo! :D

This is about the WORST fourm to ask about Vanguard on.

The game dose have some major problems with it.

It was released a Year!! to early. And its finaly getting to the point it shoulda been launched at.

Ships atm are just Mounts that float atm. Tho some will let you carry friends.

Pvp No idea tho it sucks from lack of any ballance given to it and any love at all.

The Bugs are finally getting close to being hammerd out, and Hopefully they will start working on Content again.

A half year after Launch or so they put in the only Raid Dungen and Its Big. But Buggy as heck if to many people try and play it.

As a Avid Vanguard Player and Lover of the game Im still learry about Saying go for it.

That said the Box's are suposed to be selling for like 20 Bucks so if you wana give it a go it cant Hurt.

If this game actually survives, it will become a raid fest, just like every SOE game on the market.  SOE thinks raids are the best thing since sliced bread.  Considering your dislike for raiding in WoW, that should answer your question.

With PvE raiding, it has never been a question of being "good enough". I play games to have fun, not to be a simpering toady sitting through hour after hour of mind numbing boredom and fawning over a guild master in the hopes that he will condescend to reward me with shiny bits of loot. But in games where those people get the highest progression, anyone who doesn't do that will just be a moving target for them and I'll be damned if I'm going to pay money for the privilege. - Neanderthal

I would play it if FACTION PVP had not been dropped from the game. FFA is all thats available, and I refuse to play that ruleset.

I play on the FFA server. I rarely get attacked or find people to attack. Barely anyone with in my level range. I'm level 20 right now. I usually just pick on the lower levels if I come across any...

The economy is quite unstable. There were dupes early on that went unchecked for months and changes made to the gear (Bind on Equip and Bind on Pickup) that really thrashed the economy as well. The only way to offset costs is to harvest or craft. Crafters do make some of the best items in the game however, and if you enjoy crafting VG has some of the deepest and most challenging crafting of any MMO I've played.

    2. housing? i sow video of biulding houses, and collecting resourses for it! and it is so COOL! Is it instanced housing, or like UO?

Aside from 95% of all continental houses looking the same externally, the housing is open world and quite nice. There are quite a few items to dress out your home, but you can tell that the housing item list isn't fully established as of yet.

3, Fun factor? Is there anything to to do, when you hit cap lvl? is there any end games? instances? The classes in VG are very diverse and mesh well with each other. The combat system is top notch in my opinion. There are really very few options at max level, and it's quite easy to achieve level cap. VG is an event oriented game and is not gear driven. Coming from WoW you will most likely be disappointed with gear drops in VG. There is one (18 member) raid zone at the moment. Solo content is sparse, but depending on the class you play you could be quite overpowered and able to solo some group content.

4, Is it sinking ship? Or community growing? couze review in this website said very bad things. that they started with 200k subs, and after few months ended with 50k subs :(

I played in December for the free month SOE offered to past subscribers and the community seemed a bit higher than when I left in September. VG did sell over 200k boxes, but I don't think nearly that many subscribed. The last known reports of population are a few months old and were around 35k subs.

     5. PVP, how does it work in there? "teddybearcare" system like WoW, or something more brutal, and more interesting, with some death pennaltys, and equipment loss? :)

PvP is a lost cause. Free-For-All style with one PvP server. Do not expect any attention from development on PvP aspects of this game. There is an "infamy" system, but it really ha no benefit or consequence other than bragging rights.

The economy is pretty alive.  Since crafting is task oriented and not based on grinding out tons of items the market for crafted equipment is always alive and not saturated.  The bigest problem is finding enough crafted stuff for sale.
    2. housing? i sow video of biulding houses, and collecting resourses for it! and it is so COOL! Is it instanced housing, or like UO?
Housing is not instanced.  You go to a housing area and purchase a plot.  Then you have to gather materials to "build the house".  Once your house it built it is like a real house with a door that opens etc.  You have a good deal of access control stuff you can set so you can control who can enter, what they can do.  You can have a chest for example that all your friends can open and put in and take out stuff.
3, Fun factor? Is there anything to to do, when you hit cap lvl? is there any end games? instances? At level 50 you can still work faction stuff for items.  You can harvest.  You can take up crafting or diplomacy or you can do a little of all the above.  There are also numerous dungeons you can do with groups.  And now there is a massive raid dungeon you can explore.  The raid dungeon and all dungeons are not instanced.  Well the raid dungeon is an instance but not like wow or eq2 it is instanced based on the number of people in it not based on a group or raid.
4, Is it sinking ship? Or community growing? couze review in this website said very bad things. that they started with 200k subs, and after few months ended with 50k subs :(
Hard to say.  I think it is stable and it might be increasing slowly.  This bodes well for the future as it will only get better as more bugs and performance enhancements are added and as the game grows.  One thing about VG is that the game is huge and has a lot of room for additional content and polish.  The raw potential of this game far outreaches anything on the market now or in the near future.
     5. PVP, how does it work in there? "teddybearcare" system like WoW, or something more brutal, and more interesting, with some death pennaltys, and equipment loss? :)
I'm not a PvPer but I understand it is free for all and other then level limits pretty much wide open.  Death has little in the way of penalties so you can't loot people or anything.  Not sure if the penalties are like dying to mobs where you get some xp debt and you take damage to your equipment.
Ty lads for all info! hopefully ill choose this mmo! :D
Hope that helps you out some!

I'm in the same boat as you, starting on Seradon which I believe is the most populated of the servers.  This game has the groundwork and the potential to be great, but who knows if SoE will ever be able to pull it together.  The smaller dev team was a big disappointment to me, but the current devs seem to be very clever when coming up with important class changes.  They have been overhauling how some classes play and they seem more fully balanced now - I was a psi before and it just felt half-done.

  • caldiscaldis Member Posts: 149

They may fix things but it wont be in the near future.  They have a very small dev team and a ton of work to do.  If you are planning on playing you better be ready for little development to happen while you are there.   Their updates are coming out about every 2 months and have very little improvements in each.  The big items in the next one are adding helm graphics and a flying mount quest.

LOL, I guess this poster is correct.  If this is how an avowed VG player/lover speaks about the game imagine what the trolls on this forum must say?

I'd probably try to sell it with a few different points.

Im just not one of the Asshats that say the game is Gold its Perfect the way it is and if you dont like it Adjust.

As others have said the game has the Ground work to be the Greatest MMO out there. just no money and dev team.

With time and Luck it will start to grow like Eve is. so till thin ill maintain my account Continue to not lvl and just keep exploreing. Ive seen more things in Vanguard than in allmost all my MMO's Combined and ive played TONS. So il a happy little monkey, I just dont want others joining under lies and half truthes.

Till then Peace out from Vanguard :P
