Yes ? Well I junked a wad of cash for the best Motherboard around 2 years ago. Nforce , if you are savy gamer you know it. Now guess what. New Nvidia cards use pc-e 2.0. Even some new motherboards still do not support it. So either i could have bought my Motherboard 6 months ago.

Which kind of defeats your point.Or now when i buy new Nvidia gfx card i will have to buy new motherboard.

True... but I'm generally not to first to upgrade to the new GFX interfaces. As you said yourself... you bought your gfx card 2 years ago. You've been enable to upgrade your gfx card till recently.

    About customizablity:

Being the competitive gamer I am, I talking about tweaking everything to your desire. I'm talking using what 3rd party VOIP you want to, the exact control scheme you would like, along with several different mouse features and HUD adjustments. Example: Can you alter your FOV in CoD4 on Xbox360 to 80 from the standard 65?
It is just mather of time when console games will have that. And only reason why they do not have it is because they didnt want to put it in.
Also you are saying you are competitive gamer. So you are above average user. You can not really consider yourself average gamer Joe. PC games will still be catered to minority users like you , me or some other geeks. HELL THEY EVEN MAKE GAMES FOR MAC
I'd say if the consoles could get the same kinda games like those MADE for PC, it wouldn't be a problem. My major concern is that complex game will die out to simple 3rd person shooters with auto aim.

But PC will never be a major platform anymore. Best we can hope is SCRAPS!

In my eyes PC was never really the major platform...

Fact is PC gaming communities are still growing, and as long as there is a community, there will be games released. As stated by others, PC games still sell millions, regardless of the consoles.
As i said. Yes...they even make few games for MAC.
    Yeah... amazing :P
What intelligent people are concerned is that PC will not be a major gaming platform anymore.
As said, my concern is not whether is the major platform or not(I know it ain't), but whether the types of games we only see on PC will die.

Stop whining ppl, PC games ain't gonna go nowhere. I think their market will not shrink. Instead it will keep growing and growing ( look EA ). I'm a big fan of PC games to. I like them even more than mmo-s ( well actually depends on the game).

I don't believe so.  The majority of people who buy consoles don't want a keyboard and mouse, they have that on their desktop computers.  People I know who buy consoles don't want to play with a keyboard and mouse.

I bought my rig about a year ago and I can tell you it plays Crysis with high-end graphic settings.  I don't see where that qualifies under 'Buying a rig that will need upgrading to play anything beyond what was released 2 months before.'

Many who feel they need to buy a new computer every year don't take care of it like they should.  It is more convenient to just shove a console in a hole under your television than keep your computer neat and clean.  I feel it's worth it for the pay off, though.

The Xbox was released in North America November 15, 2001 (as listed on Wikipedia).  The 360 was released in North America November 22, 2005.  That's four years.  If I keep my computer for around three years (as I generally do before thinking about doing major upgrading or buying a new one), I don't see a huge difference in the time I get from either platform.  And, as I said before, I can buy one piece of hardware as opposed to an entirely new console.

The argument made about consoles getting a keyboard and all these other neat things PCs have kind of makes me chuckle..  Well congratulations, you've placed a PC in a box.  The entire console vs. PC argument is a moot point, then.

Ultimately, though, it all comes down to personal opinion.

I am only PC gamer. I do not own a console. I never considered buying console up to now.

Massive Effect released only for consoles. Force Unleashed only for console...

Every PC game that i am anticipating - Fallout 3 , Sacred 2 , Space Siege - are made for consoles

Even AOC is made for consoles...

So I am faced with a choice - buy new PC for 1000$ - although my PC is perfect for anything except gaming at this moment.Or buy console for 250$ ?

I know what would average Joe choose. And I am starting to consider and consider.

I am now waiting to see how WAR and AOC pan out...to see if its even worth buying new PC

But there is still a huge difference here. Where your PC might be able to go the distance for three to four years before you do a major upgrade, the graphic quality of the games you're playing will start to fall once you reach the best your PC can do. But on the console games will only keep getting better and better graphicly, as the game designers learn to use the power of the console to its full extent. There is of course a difference from game to game, depending on how much the people behind want to focus on bringing out graphics, but the console is what sets the limit, and you will NEVER have a game that makes you think "I need to upgrade so I can see this in a higher resolution" and so on...

    AND Keyboards >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> controllers!

What a narrow minded point of view.

You seem to forget that you can also have 3 consoles (the Wii, the Xbox 360 AND the PS3) for the price of ONE GOOD rig! Not to mention that you won't have to bother with compatibility problems and upgrading your video card every year (if not every 6 months) with those consoles. Add to this that most console games release a much more finish and polish product then video games on the PC 99.9% of the time.

Oh and, for you mister that hasn't arrived in the 21st century yet: You can have a USB keyboard and mouse on the 360 so, your argument is completely moot.

PC gaming is not dead, but console is the future and wether you like it or not doesn't change a damn thing.

Very well put, simple, to the point and most of all .....it is a FACT

I'm a fan of both console and PC gaming but I usually lean toward PC gaming due to MMOs, RPGs and I've always enjoyed a FPS pc game over a FPS console game.  You just can't beat the fast paced mouse+keyboard combo when it comes to fragging..

Now to the main point of my post...I upgraded..HINT..upgraded..not bought..my rig last year and can play Crysis just fine on med-high graphics.  I can turn it up to high but it crashes every hour or so.  Med-High graphics already look better than Halo 3(not that I didn't enjoy halo 3)

Also, Team Fortress 2 is a lot better on PC as the controls for the 360 just didn't seem to work to well for it...well..imo anyways

As for AOC being on 360, it will come out quite a bit after PC does so I say most will play it on PC...and if the 360 controller works better for the game..then I'll just plug in a 360 controller to my PC if thats the case..which I doubt as they'd both probably have their advantages..

I remember when FFXI was coming out for both the PC and PS2..people were saying that PC gaming would die shortly after as the console "potential" would be soon realized..

Remember, people have been saying PC gaming is going to die for years and despite that, it’s been going strong.

One last note, I did LOVE..and I mean love Mass Effect.

Don't be a fan boy, enjoy all sides of gaming.

Just a funny question what do you think was full price of  8800GTX 1 1/2 years ago ?

    and  answer is :

    944.835 USD

Now if he actually purchased this gfx card at this price. Than WOW man ...

I guess PC gaming will never die for him !

The 8800gtx was actually $600 when it first came out. And there still isn't a graphics card that can truly run Crysis on it's highest settings.

I've got a question.... just want to understand what I'm reading. Let me state what I think I've read, see if I'm correct, then ask my questions.

Two different posts on this board. The dead-jim post has within it the NPD numbers, which is north america sales only. In that thread, we see a comparison between PC and Console sales in north america. The console was like 10 times the PC for a game like "call of duty 4". And we see from a video in that thread, talk about crysis being lower than expected etc. You got assasin's creed doing 1.8 mil, skipping the pc for a while, etc. Then everybody starts rambling about pc vs console etc.

But the numbers were north american sales numbers.

Then this thread says that a couple of titles sold 1 million copies + on the pc 'worldwide'. Actually, it says it this way:

Jensen frequently noted that Crysis was a strong performer, stating the game went "platinum," which likely means it sold a million units worldwide despite its initially modest performance in the US.

Not exactly a definate statement with a reporter interpreted phrase like "likely means"... but let's say crysis sold over a million units worldwide. According to the video in the other thread, it sold like 80k in north america.

    So putting it all together:

    In north america:

call of duty for pc: 383,000

call of duty for console: 3.8 million

       crysis for pc: 80,000

    Worldwide:

crysis for pc: 1 million plus.

Is that correct? Is that ALL the information I should be getting from the posts of numbers so far?

    And I'm left with questions....

    - what are the console numbers for 'worldwide' ? And I would like to know call-of-duty (console-vs-pc) numbers for worldwide... I think that would be illuminating about what's going on too. Is there an open market for consoles in europe and asia that has not yet been tapped?

    - what can be drawn from the fact that 90% of the sales of crysis for the pc occured outside north america?   I mean, the original 'either-or' choice set up by these threads was pc or console. Maybe it's america-or-euro/asia? In other words, wouldn't pc devs be tempted to just create and market pc games for euro/asia ?  I mean, if 90% of my sales were coming from area X, to hell with area Y would be my first inclination....

EDIT: also, reading around in other forums... this post quoted by OP has several saying that it's 1 million 'shipped'... not 'sold'... from other links other places... still reading. Maybe we can make a definate list of numbers somewhere? I've also seen $700 emarketing research reports... maybe we could all pitch in $1 each and buy it? lol

Probably I should've worded that better.  DirectX10, my rig would not be able to run it on the the maximum, of course not.  Fortunately, I don't run that sham they call Vista and DirectX10, so I do enjoy seeing a smooth Crysis on the high-end settings.  Notice the use of high-end..  Not maximum.  I wasn't going to say maximum because I didn't mean maximum.  When I get back to my apartment in a couple days I'll list what I run it at for you.

Huh, my 8800GTX can run Crysis on high with Vista and DirectX 10.  So, guess its performance isn't hampered too much (at least it can when my computer is working.  Frikkin power supply burned out - don't get a ThermalTake.  I was running at least 100W below what it was rated for in benchmarking, and its still dead).

Once piracy is as simple on consoles as it is on PC's (no matter how many new consoles they bring out eventually it will always be cracked perma) consoles will die, in a month. It has no other purpose and will become redundant.

PC games that selling 1mil+ untis when you can get it for free, this just isn't going to happen with those numbers for consoles. The figures suggest that more people played cod4 on console than PC, that simply insn't a reflection of what I see at all. Nearly every single one of my freinds played cod on pc, only a handful actually bought it though.

PC's are for indepth, immersive, realistic  entertainment. Consoles are a plug n play laff with your mates before or after getting assfaced down the pub with your mates.

And what makes you think they will be permabanned? I'm sure that Sony and M$ does whatever they can to keep piracy out of their consoles. And so far, they've done a pretty good job, it's only Nintendo who is in the dangerzone

There is only one word needed to completely disprove your arguement:

    Playstation

PC's don't provide more indepth immersive and realistic entertainment then consoles do and everyone who says consoles are just plug n laff with your friends obviously has not even the slightest clue about consoles. It's clear that you came to that conclussion on an incorrect assumption and not through actually doing research on the console software library.
