Mythic: worst MMO company on earth

ElikalElikal Member UncommonPosts: 7,912

What a bad day... Since I had a longer weekend (some holidays) and I felt bored I had bought the complete DAoC box from Amazon which had arrived on time today. But what a series of dissapointments!

First, I had installed the German version from the EU box and tried to register. When, after 30 mins (!!) I finally got the answer-mail, and clicked the link to complete the registration, it said "the link is not working". WTF? So I delved into the european DAOC site, but alas the only way to enter the FAQ or ask the company was via a working registered account. After some looking into the site, I finally found an EMail adress, and the problem was finally solved. Still, no phone number, no forum, nothing. Quite a bad experience.

Then, finally, I logged in, and you can believe my DEEP dissapointment to see only EU servers! I was looking into fan forums, and found, once more we silly Europeans are locked out of US servers. God knows why... I was used from EQ2 and SWG to be able to use ALL servers, I didnt really expect an old and noble MMO like DAOC was limiting its players like this! You know, since DAOC is an older MMO of course the German servers are quite sparse populated, so I wanted to play on US servers, and now behold my deepest dissapointment when I realized there was no way besides buying a US version and making another account... How VERY VERY lame.

If that is the way Mythic deals with its customers you can forget about my interest in WAR. I dont like to play on German servers anyway. I thought only Blizzard was that arrogant with its players. What a farce. :(

So you had a problem with GOA who runs the European service...and basically had no knowledge despite vast discussions on the subject.  The threads of complaints that it sucks for years and years and YEARS blame Mythic for you not knowing that Europeans can only play on EU servers?  Dude everyone knows that...everyone has known that and Mythic isn't the only company that does it.

It sucks but then you can't complain about Server Lag since you'll be in the right region.   It doesn't make them a bad company, its just not a favorable choice.

Somehow just because Mythic is making WAR they seem to think Mythic is going to change their ways of doing things. They will be highly disappointed which will be unfortunate for them.

I tried the DAoC trial once. Was kinda pissed off that you had to subscribe to even play the trial. Went through with it anyway and payed for a one month subscription. After 2 weeks of playing it I decided it was shit, and stopped playing. I looked on their website and found no way to unsubscribe so I assumed my subscription would end after that month; it didn't. I continued to get billed every month for four months and I still didn't know how to unsubscribe. Eventually I blocked all payments to Mythic with my bank, real pain in the arse though.

So yeah I definitely agree with you.

GOA runs DAoC in Europe, not Mythic.  Your beef is with GOA.

Yea i call shenningans since I signed up for thier trial which is FREE unless you past the free time and successfully and easily as any other game cancelled my account when the free time came up.  Seriously if you dont know how to access your account the same way you created it then ..maybe that says something about you.

I dont care if its GOA or the FBI or the Cardassian Union, Mythic made it and they are responsible to look what their local contract companies do! I dont think GOA decided the server blockade by themselves, so the blame falls back to Mythic in my pov.

    Very lame.

Alot of mmo's have this..You give them the information but they dont' charge you anything Until the "Trial" is over.   You create an account yes but they don't take a dime from until the 10, 14, or 30 days free are over period.  Thats what a trial account is.  But if you fail to unsubscribe before the time is up they will charge you not for the time already played but for the next 30 days.   It is a crappy setup but its nothing new to the MMO world.

Actually this is a case of YOU not finding these things out before you buy. So don't try and blame Mythic for your lack of investigation.

"I assumed it would work with US..blah blah blah." Entitlement runs rampant in EU too I guess.

Yes your point of view is very lame.   But fear not a waaambulance has been called.

While the decision of server localization is probably Mythic's, had you bothered to take 10 minutes to check Mythic's boards, or even the boards HERE, you would have known about it long before you shelled out money for the game.  As stated above GOA's stance on server localization is a long and well known issue.

So wait you think Mythic is the worst and support SOE.  What kind of backwards world have i stumbled into.   Secondly, DOAC is an aged MMO and would thus have some of the older practices of regional servers.  Plus, we enjoy not having latency issue from someone in the EU trying to connect with us.  Last, blame your EU for some of their regulation that keep Mythic directly away.

Well..... I was planning on moving on to another topic, but this compelled me to reply.

I opened up my browser, and typed Dark Age Of Camelot + Billing into google search and hit ENTER.

    This was the result.

    http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=Dark+Age+Of+Camelot+%2B+Billing

Naturally I chose the first option, and to my suprise I was taken to this site.

    http://support.darkageofcamelot.com/kb/category.php?id=34

Upon reaching this site, I looked at the options on the left control panel.

The first option under Account Management and Billing Support read "Account Cancellation"

I was motivated to click this option, and I was led to a new page.

    http://support.darkageofcamelot.com/kb/category.php?id=31

    This page wielded two questions.

"How do I cancel my account when using Pay By Cash?"

    and

"How do I cancel my account?"

The latter being the most logical, I clicked the link.

    http://support.darkageofcamelot.com/kb/article.php?id=140

Amazingly my problem was solved and I could go on with my life, without paying the monthly fee.

So yeah I definately agree with you, Mythic is a real pain in the arse.

A consumer should have the right to buy the game without doing any in-depth research on it beforehand. Unless there is a warning printed on the box (or when buying from net, clearly visible otherwise), it's never the buyers fault. It's the producers or the sellers fault that they are selling such crap.

And giving the running of a game to some third party (like Mystic has given to GOA), doesn't mean that they wouldn't be responsible for the server quality. If Mystic has given the running of servers to GOA, then it means they have arranged the running of European servers badly and that they have intentinally made the game experience bad for European players. They are evey bit as much to blame as is GOA.

The gamebuyers need to learn to demand more. As long as we allow game publishers, producers, and those running servers just release subpar products and give us bad service, that's exactly what we'll recieve.

I remember beta testing DAOC and thinking it was like playing freeware.

But it wound up doing pretty good when it launched so I guess it must have had some things in it that people liked.

So the copy you bought could only be played in Europe. And that is why Mythic is the WORST company in the WORLD!!!

A consumer does have the right to buy anything they want without researching it beforehand.  But if the game (or any product) doesn't do what the buyer wants, as long as is DOES function as advertised, then YES it is the buyer's fault if they aren't happy with it.  Companies aren't responsible for your happiness.  They are responsible for making a safe product that works like they say it does.  If you buy a car that is advertised at 16 mpg, and then can't afford to put gas in it, that's not their fault, your just dumb.

GoA bought the rights to DAoC way back before the game came out like in 2001 or so.Just like codemasters own the rights to LOTRO .It does not pay them to let you play on all servers .

Reason SWG/EQ2 were different was SoE runs and owns all servers and licence  so can afford you to play on all servers as all money goes to them anyhow.

Though blizzard is an exception which owns the euro servers yet does not let the NA and EU servers mingle /shrug

We don't know why mythic did not publish it themselves in europe. Most likely they were too small(remember they had what 10 or so staff at the start) and needed to raise some cash and thus sold the rights to GoA.Like many people maybe even them they never expected a 250k sub .

So lets not go running around blaming EU laws without the facts.SoE ,M$ ,funcom and origin/EA  have been able to publish and run the games in europe as well as NA before even DAoC.

In short DAoC as far as i know was the first mmorpg company that used a secondary company to run their game in europe

yeah gotta agree its a GOA issue not a Mythic issue.

You can play on the American servers, there is no ip block, but it does require the american version of the game.
