A Few Questions

DrWalnutDrWalnut Member CommonPosts: 133

1. How many subscribers does this game have?

2. Which would be the best server choice?

3. What level does the game get "good"?

4. Any estimates to when Monks and Druids are coming?

5. How long does it usually take to hit the level cap?

6. I had an account when the game came out; could I reactivate it for a trial or something without having to pay a fee for reactivating, for like 10 days or so?

Thanks.

Since the server merge they are all pretty good. I don't know any one server that is better. You can post in the guest forum on the DDO board this question.

    3. What level does the game get "good"?
I would have to say around 9-10 to see stuff like the dragon and other small group raid stuff.

    4. Any estimates to when Monks and Druids are coming?
Monks are due out with Mod 7 in April. I believe there is a surprise in 6.1 but no clue to what it may be.

I don't know if that is possible. You can try calling cust serv and see if they can flag the account for a free ten days. Worth a try atleast. I'm a little surprised with the release of Mod 6 they didn't have a welcome back weekend and past good standing accounts could play for free this weekend.

    Thanks.
I answered what I could. Goodluck! Hope you enjoy DDO!

Are Druids coming out the same time as Monks?

How long does it take to hit level 9 or 10?

Druids are much longer, because of the actual mechanics that would go into shape shifting.  They are being worked on though.

I would actually say the game is fun WAY before 9 or 10, with multipart quests like Waterworks, Catacombs, Tangleroot, Delera's, etc. and two of the most fun quests in the game, Kobold Assault and Stormcleave being much lower level.

you COULD race to level 9 or 10 or even the cap, I'd say 9 or 10 (for a non-twinked new player) would be a couple weeks if you crammed and rushed, cap would be a couple months.

    DON'T DO THAT.

Enjoy the amount of quests per level, remember that levelling in DDO isn't grinding out X number of killed hamsters, it's actually questing in a large number of unique quests for each level on the way up.

Yeah Kate said Druids are coming out after the monks, but no specific timeline. Meaning don't expect them in 7.1 or Mod 8 probably. I'm sure they will hype it good when Druids are near release.

Yeah there is a lot of fun before 9-10 don't get me wrong. Vons was just the first real raid I was on where you kill a big boss. There are several good quests before then and doing them on Elite mode adds entirely different feel to the dungeon.

Like Vincenz mentioned don't race to the top. You will miss out on a lot.

Are there many low-level players so I can group as a newbie and have fun? Are the solo quests they've added fun and viable for leveling? How high do solo quests go up to?

Quests with a solo difficulty setting run up to 7th now I think, but yeah...TONS of low level players to group with and frankly, it's just a lot more fun.  The quests themselves are the same as grouped quests, just with an "easy" setting basically for solo'ing.  One thing, definitely tell folks your new, because a lot of high level players have low level alts they're just starting and will rush through quests if you don't tell them!

Are the instances in this game even better than WoW's?

You can't compare WoW instances with DDo. WoW instances has no dynamic part in it, just passively pulling and killing fixed stationary mobs.

In DDo it's dynamic environment. There are traps that you need to disable, or jump over, you will be climbing up walls, swimming underwater. The mobs when spot you run to you, call guards etc. There are puzzles, riddles, and all the things you would expect in a regular D&D Dungeon.

What would be a good newbie class/race to start with?

    EDIT: Added in race

    EDIT: Added in race

I always recommend a basic melee class first (fighter/barbarian/paladin type), simply because you get the swing of the combat and have enough HPs and AC to live through the learning curve.  Plus you don't deal with the complexity of a rogue or ranger skills or caster spells and feats.

Is there a recommended race for one of those? Is this one of those games that race actually makes a big difference?

Race absolutely makes a difference, as each race has it's on racial characteristics...but in the beginning pick a dwarf a human or a warforged probably, if you're going on the tank style.

Any recommendations when it comes to Barbarian/Fighter/Paladin with a particular race?

Really no, you could be a halfling fighter and still get the jist of the game...just have fun :)

Thanks for all the help. Do you have any good newbie guide links you could give me to read up on before I start the game?

Another few  questions about the game.

I'm deciding between the three classes you recommended.

Is gear in this game like WoW or EQ? By that I mean if there are pieces of armor for every part of the body, or is it like D&D where there are less slots for putting equipment. Also, is gear as crucial to this game as it is in other MMOs?

Are all the instances still done often, or have some of them, like perhaps the dragon in Module 1, become obsolete similar to how the level 60 dungeons in WoW are now worthless next to the BC dungeons?

  • ThillianThillian Member UncommonPosts: 3,156

Gear is absolutely not crucial. If you're a good player in a bad armor, the others will immediately recognize you as a good player. This is not gear dependant armor. Most of the items you will have to buy and use during dungeons (wand of healing, wand of restoration..) But there is still space to focus more on the gear all the way up to max level and then continue at end-game. There are raids that can be reran many times for better and better gear. But it's not really not the point of the game. There is also no inspect option. The number of varius gear slots is like in DDo. So around 13-14.
