So with the release of Module 6 I have been thinking about coming back. I enjoyed the game when I played it at launch, but once I got to the Bazzar, it was pretty difficult to find a group and lets face it, this game is about playing with other people. I liked the combat and the instanced dungeons and all that stuff, but again, no groups = no fun. I've heard there have been server merges that have helped with that issue, but have there been any other major changes? Are the open world areas neat? Is 42 really the answer? Thanks!

Really a TON of changes. The merges helped immensely, grouping is super fast and easy now for just about any level or quest. They totally revamped the enhancement system, when you played you could have 4 total...now you have like 40 total LOL! Definitely worth reading up on. I love the adventure areas, from the lowest level to the highest, they're not only absolutely gorgeous graphically, but just a lot of fun.
They've added PVP, but only for a little fun here and there (no rewards, rankings, experience) and totally optional. Crafting is in as of...well...a few days ago LOL! It's primarily high level stuff right now, but it's also only the prototype for what is planned overall.
TONS of new content, most importantly. Mod 5 marked more than double the content they had at launch...and we just got Mod 6
"Crafting" isn't crafting...it's a "turn your raid gear into better raid gear" system - if you are not capped, you won't be crafting.
Unless you buy ingredients from the AH, probably with plat you bought online...
I re-subbed based on the crafting teaser [1200 items!], I was fooled - I thought that perhaps they were only mentioning the uber loot to get the capped to stay subbed. Nope, that's all there is! Nothing for the low-mid level people [I'm sure that I'm not the only one who isn't an alt...am I?!]

Apparently this is the rudementry elements of crafting, I think they are using it as a test. Personnally crafting is the least of my worries so I haven't really paid much attention to it, I already have a job.
I was just bummed because I have always liked to craft - in pnp AD&D, also. I was just upset that it was spun as crafting when it was really just a way to upgrade weapons for the capped people. I remain hopeful that Turbine will use this to "trickle down" crafting for lower level characters.
It isn't a game-breaker, but it isn't a reason to re-sub, either.

The greatest limit to finding groups is going to be the time frame of which you play. I am on the west coast US and during the weekends I don't see a low number of LFM's (looking for more) until after midnight. The early hours of the morning are also likely to be low population times.
Honestly, I never have a problem looking for a group. When I don't see one that I want to run I'll do something by myself. Thankfully the new outdoor areas are VERY well done and provide for hours and hours of game play when you're not feeling like waiting around for others...
The population is doing well and there's plenty of diverse content to keep you having fun.
I'm sorry you feel this way 'cs it's simply not the case.
The current process of "crafting" is a loot centric means for players to combine materials into items "they" would like rather then pre-determined rewards. Currently, the items are made from scratch by using a "blank" (blank sword) at a device you reach when getting through certain parts of a Raid.
There's no reason to "buy plat" and there's little impact upon it. Buying play will not help you make what you need since key ingredients are bound upon looting from the end raid chests.
Keep in mind that this is a foundation of what they are thinking of for Real Crafting. At the moment, this isn't really the crafting you would think of and should be viewed more along the lines as "Forging". There are currently collectibles in the game that give you wands, arrows and other nick-nacks when turning them in and currently this is similar as to how the system is functioning.
Being "capped" isn't an issue and while a lot of returning players will be leveling up they will also be collecting the loot to be used in the Eldrich Devices. As it stands, someone could power level to 16 in less then a week if wanted, but most players don't want to power grind and prefer to take their time and enjoy the content.
No one is buying plat. The listed items on teh Auction are rare examples that represents such an infitesmal portion of the items being looted that it can't even be used as an example. There's alwys going to be 1 asshat who thinks they can sell you a piece of coal for a bazillion plat.
