8 week delay, you can read the letter from the game director on the main forums.

WAR does not have a Set release date.  any dates shown are simply ones that sites like Gamestop have to put on items so that people will pre order.  Last word is Late Q2

june is the end of Q2... and I think they'll stick to their date better than AOC, because they have a lot more money in the development... and AOC has pushed back quite a bit already.

AOC is really pushing the envelope, and that isn't easy to do on a set timeline.

It is my personal opinion that WAR will not hold their release date in June.

I agree, the game doesn´t look finished yet, they don´t even have all the High Elf classes.

I do think that this was the last AoC delay, it would be mistake pushing back the game again and risk WAR being released before AoC.

WAR never set a solid release date, only an estimate of sometime in Q2 2008.  They have not been so bold as AoC to give specific release dates, only estimates.

Wouldn't surprise me if WAR delayed again.  They still seem to be introducing too many "new" things for the first time to the game. I'd expect a game 4-5 months prior to release to have all basic content in it, (such as races/classes) about a year in advance of release.  But hey, maybe they have their own way of doing things.

I don't care which one comes out first, just so someone releases a new MMO in the first half of this year.

Placing a specific Date or saying Q1 or Q2 is almost the same thing.

You do know that June is the Q2 and that July is Q3? So basicaly when I posted that in my personal opinion the game won't hold their release date means that it won't be in Q2. I'm not going to speculate when WAR is getting released, although I agree that the way they are developing WAR makes more sense, they start with the basics and a small list of features and slowly along the development they add more stuff, instead of Conan that has been reducing some of its features.

God, another ****ing delay. I give up on this game.

I know people think a delay means they are taking their time, but I personally believe it is quite the opposite.

When a company sets a release date and has it pushed back constantly, it means they are now rushing to deliver a game and the more delays mean more rushing on all of the little things. Though the quality will not be as bad as if they released when originally intended.

I don't understand why companies just don't set a general time-frame, like the first half of '08 and work from there and once they get the game to a release state, set a date and work towards creating the project you intended.

But instead they set ridiculous dates and keep pushing it back causing rushing to catch up with their original release schedule, sacrificing quality.

Actually the delays come from the player feedback for improvement for the game, the adding in and mixing up of extra content. Stripping away stuff that isn't needed and improving in other area's.

Its not by choice, its a neccessity, and that came from beta testers and internal testers.

Sorry if 8 weeks extra delay is too much for you, but I bet you will still try the game.

Its the quality that they were going to ship with on a date that was the issue, and that needed rectifying.

Lol, 8 weeks isn't all. March was a delayed date from October 2007 which was a significant delay, I am pretty sure MS was gearing towards launching it back in April 2007 (a few months after Vista's launch).

From my memory, AoC has been one of the worst release date offenders; constantly delaying it from dates they set themselves. It has me seriously concered that there are still delays a year after the original intended release, and perhaps showing that the game is fundementally flawed and will never actually be able to deliver a stable and more importantly fun game.

its a pretty common thing with mmorpg's.. delays. Another high profile game - WAR thats been delayed a while now and its further behind in development than AoC. Maybe you just dont understand the industry. You did notice Vanguard didnt smell of roses, right?

Yeah, Vanguard was released after significant delays. And what was the result? A game that was fundamentally flawed, even a year after it's release and little has changed to fix it's problems - there are just too many; it should have never seen release, no amount of (reasonable) delays could have fixed the game.

I'll admit, I don't know much about WAR, but I am pretty sure they never actually set a date (and I personally never expected the game much before this summer anyways). But AoC has set 3 dates after it's initial major delay from April 07. They set October 31st, then March 25th, and now like May 21st?

Again, I fear the game is probably just fundamentally flawed and now they are playing catch-up on a game they wanted to release a year ago.

Well, there's always those who fear that a delay in the production of a game is a bad sign. There are valid reasons for the concerns, generally speaking. Of course, it -could- be that there are flaws and major issues with the game. Of course it -could- be that they are delaying to try and salvage what they can without any hope of actually making it. No one, except those who have the good luck to be in the Closed Beta can probably make an accurate assessment of that and even they can't see it in the whole picture, since we know that the actual builds the Dev's work on are further ahead in production than the Beta Build at any given time. So, we don#t know anything, we just know they delayed.

Now on the other hand, there are those who trust the company more. Who are willing to believe the word of the developers that the game is being pushed back due to beta-tester feedback, that they are indeed on the way to finishing the polish of the game to release it in a relatively bug-free version, giving the people what they want, a clean and good start with the game. These people, too can not claim any evidence of their assumptions (exception as above). All we can do is speculate and ponder based on previous experiences.

Now I have seen quite a few MMORPG's get pushed back. Once, twice, with fixed dates or loose dates. I have seen the same in Single-Player games. I'm not trying to justify it, but I am going to cast myself in with the second group here. I am willing to trust FC. For one, I Beta-tested Vanguard and I can tell you that game looked more crappy in any development stage than what we KNOW about AoC, let alone what Beta-Testers and Developers know. For another, I like the concept of the game, I like the world and I would love to play in it, which makes me willing to accept the reasons giving in the hopes of them actually aiming for a good, solid start.

Truth of the matter is, no one can say for sure, only after the release. And in all honesty, I don#t know why these speculations keep coming up. I mean, after all, if you are annoyed with the delay, you can just busy yourself with something else until launch, wait a week or two and check reviews of the released game and then decide. Others, like me, put some faith in the whole thing and preorder.
