    If it's in, it's in.

    If it's not, it's not.

    Why are we arguing?

Well, that image won't be on the site here for more than a few minutes, but I'm now convinced that Mythic is seriously considering adding some form of stealth. (if its not already in there).  So much for the "joke" theory.

There will be no assassin class, no griefing, and no stealth.
(this is one of Mark Jacob's (President and Lead Designer) rules)
However there will be cunning gameplay.
Cunning gameplay has nothing to do with a stealth ability of any kind.

That said nothing about stealth as it is currently seen in todays MMOs. IE you hit the stealth ability, and walk around anywhere you want and majority of population can not see you until you attack.

Ambush by definition is not stealth. It is hiding in a small area waiting for the enemy to show up and then attacking. While similar ambush is not stealth. I think most would agree that this form of stealth is fine. If t he person hidden has to use structures and a confined space to be hidden.

Oh and BTW posting that is a breach of the NDA.

That picture will disappear faster than Paul's joke podcast.

People can call it ambush all you like but if it hides you it's "Stealth" as per the common term used in MMO gaming. It might not fit the exact term but who cares, we all know it means going invisible/hard to see by whatever means.

Nightelf ability in WoW is called stealth by people yet you can't do anything but stand there and do nothing or you'll break it.

Prove to me you didn't creatively make those things up?
Also as a beta player you should know not to talk about beta outside of beta.

EDIT: I do believe the text in red, though

I do not think this is the greatest thing since sliced bread.
    Try to stay on topic.

Ambush is most likely a positional attack.
DAoC was full of positional attacks and in the video I posted Paul even stated there would definately be positional attacks in Warhammer Online, but NO stealth as in invisibility.

I do not think Ambush will be anything like stealth that is currently defined in current MMOs.

Stealth caused them alot of balancing troubles in DAoC and I don't think they will go that route again.  That isn't to say a Witch Hunter can't do a surprise attack on someone, I jsut don't think it will involve them standign invisible right in front of their face.

It will most likely deal with a surprise attack done from range that traps/hinders the oppenent so the Witch Hunter can get up close. Will probably require you to be out of the line of sight of any hostile target. (can't be an ambush if someone can see you).  But not being seen is not the same and being invisible.   I suspect it will require use of surroundings or possibly make something for you to hide in.

Think of an ambush in our world. You hide behind the environment or blend into it. It could possibly be one of the abilities groups get when they stay together for long period of time and when the group leader is a witch hunter. Or could be a witch hunter ability that requires a group.

We don't know, but I don't believe they would release big fat NO STEALTH on multiple occasions and then go back on it.  That isn't to tay there will not be surprise attacks, they just won't involve you standing invisible 5 inches away from someone.

Good point, I never would have thought about out of line of sight abilities.

I'm sure it is something new and innovative.

A bunch of whiner babies eh? Riiiight

If I remember correctly, the only players whom ever cried repeatedly for nerfs on DAoC were the stealthers.

The players who dislike stealth are satisfied, and do not "cry" about it.

I believe you have your "whiners" mixed up, a full 180 degrees.

it's the general attitude I dislike, and I was speaking broadly of MMO's in general, the topic on front page attracted me and I had to respond.  The same people who cry about stealth will be the same people playing the flavor of the month classes with overpowered abilities.
