Sorry fellas, but Ryzom is gone

I hate to say this, cuz I know alot of you like the game, but its dead. Its been dead for a long time now. There is no development staff, no committed resources, no impetus to advance the game and there simply isnt enough money to be made from the game anymore for anyone to take it on as a 'Going Concern'

Having a dedicated following of players does not make the game profitible and that at the end of the day is what is going to kill the game. Its not profitible. I played the game for a while a few months back. Its stale. There was nothing being added to it, no events, very little entertainment to be brutally honest. No GMs, no voulanteers or other helpers as you would find in other MMO's. No company in their right mind would buy this game.

Cherish the memories that you have had with the game, I fear that this IS the end for Ryzom.

Ryzom has been on backburner ever since Gameforge decided THEY couldn't make it profitable, that was about a year ago.

I think there are several ways to revive the game.

It is really sad to see this happen considering most of the playerbase came to the game via word of mouth. Neither nevrax or gameforge had the desire to drop money into a decent advertising campaign. I'm positive having the correct exposure would have brought new members in and maybe even allowed them to do more with the game.

I truly hope its not completely over and Ryzom somehow resurrects....

Nevrax did advertise in many computer game magazines - unfortunately, they did so for about 6 months, then pushed back open-beta and launch, so the ads were long out of people's minds when the game actually launched.

I loved Ryzom - and am happy to see the OP is just trolling, not an actual "the lights went out on the servers this morning" post.  Unfortunately, my sub was on break [my play time is severely limited some months of the year] when they stopped taking subs :(

Was not aware of the premature ad campaign by nevrax, even though I did see the first release of the boxed set they tried early on.

Still waiting to see what happens, like many Ryzomites, lots of hope and prayers.

Okay, Im not trolling. Saying that I am trolling is infact trolling, so be careful how you pick your words. I opened up this post to see how many of the former players and current players believe that it is the end for the game. I dislike being called a Troll when I have done no such thing.

why not make it free to play with a cash shop

should pull it alot of numbers and really the cash would need just useful and clever items to pull in funds

Free to play with a cash shop would kill the game.

What is the point of learning to craft, if the next player just slaps down $10 and buys it.  Whole areas of the game would become useless.

I'm not so sure, it could be done with some finesse. Until now we had the double-xp crystals that outposts produced, they could be sold at a shop without harming the game, same with the "kiss of Jena"-pacts (lessens the death penalty).

I could see myself pay real money for a pet yubo or a white mektoub.

A gray area would be bigger bags and house inventory.... but actual crafting is core gameplay so they shouldn't touch that.

EDIT: That said, I have yet to find a F2P game with a decent community.

F2P would be instant death to the community so many have cited as a top reason for enjoying Ryzom.

    All servers are now dead.

Nothing to log into at all any more.

    Good night sweet Jena.

You can still log onto Klients and www.Ryzom.com

There has been a little bit of news:

Hopefully something will come out of this, even though it might take a while.

Looks like Ryzom is down for a year or more if what Xav says is true.

I can't see GF keeping on paying for servers for something they may not have actually owned in the first place. Talk about a mess.

I hate to say this but if it does stay down for a year, the possibility of it making any kind of recovery is very slim!

I have to agree with Frkhot97 here they could pull it off as long as they don't mess with crafting or any other core game play feature.

They could sell pets, New make up schemes an hair styles, kiss of jena, and the xp buff crystals, but they would have to leave the op mats alone or they would render the OP PVP useless.

Put it up on SourceForge.. then it'll be useful once again.
