They really kick ass in the graphics department (and I'd like to reiterate that Graphics aren't everything). The recent video they put out with the environment detail just blew me away. Now if only Mythic could figure out a way to make those kind of graphics work with massive rvr lag-free.

There's nothing wrong with Mythic's Graphics. The game is based on WarHammer not Age of Conan. The visual & artistic style between the two worlds are very different and very set. If you suddenly made Warhammer look like Age of Conan it'd be like the Death Star coming around and blowing up Alderaan a complete crime.
Personally Funcom's record is against them.
If you want to love on AoC you came to the wrong forum. Maybe your new to the WAR boards or something but we try to avoid topics in relation to AoC vs WAR since they're meant to be two different games. Apples n Oranges...can't compare them really.

OP is being a troll....if there was anything to congratulate both WAR and AoC...is that they are staying true to their games, graphics wise. This is how WAR has always looked.
Whoa, whoa, whoa there lady. Slow your roll. You've got me all figured wrong. I'm certainly not a Funcom fan. Just giving them props where they excel: The graphics department. But as I've mentioned in a previous post, graphics is not everything. It's only a small part of what makes a successful MMO. I think, ultimately, WAR will prove to be the more succesful game. I just think that Funcom has some exceptional artists on their team. They make all other MMOs seem amateurish when it comes to the eye candy. But that doesn't make the game as AO has proven.
You're projecting. I wasn't being trollish, just giving praise to AoC for their sweet graphics work. But ultimately, it comes down to the gameplay.
I dont think its that Mythic couldnt do it as much as it is they dont want to do it. When you get graphics like that you reduce the amount of people in a single area that you can have without to much lagg. Both server side and PC gear side. The point to RvR is to have massive battles against eachother. Personally I think Mythic is smarter going with a less focus on graphics and more on how many people they can have killing eachother at a single time.
Keep in mind also that AoC's combat is going to be based heavily on lagg. Lagg hurts every game but even more so when your swinging and moving constantly to dodge/hit. Any lagg could ruin it. So the higher the system requirement the worse off in a PvP game IMO.
Look at it this way. If both games are equally fun. They have there own focus, but equally fun. Which will do better? The game that almost makes you go buy an updated comp or the one that people can play on 1-3 year old systems? I would say the game that can be played on older systems. If both games are fun why am I going to go out and spend 1k+ on a new system?
I know hardcore pc gamers usually have great rigs. On the other hand there are alot more people out there that just cant afford it and if they want PvP, Mythic will get there money. Not funcom.
well your original post sounded kinda trollish :P

Your missing the point..There is Nothing wrong with WAR's graphics engine period. Its actually rather beautiful if you've ever seen any of the Lighting Work photos which there are few off since they usually keep it turned off during demonstrations. Your the one that started this threat expect people to not be nice. Funcom's art work personally yes its pretty but does it work? Is it well supported by many machines? Does it work flawlessly? Hell no I've watched videos of some of their demonstrations where their own client crashes, the art work looks rough and their pushing so many NPC's even when most of them are the same model and its slow and jerky. AoC may Look pretty but thats its biggest flaw. Mythic's stuff looks like it should Look for Warhammer to suggest it should be any otherway is a crime against Warhammer.
Im afraid to say we just have to agree to disagree. You dont know what your talking about in My Personal Opinion.

I don't know what I'm talking about? You just basically agreed with me, Lady. I said that they have the best graphics, but it wasn't everything. Which is basically the same as you saying: "Funcom's art work personally yes its pretty but does it work? Is it well supported by many machines? Does it work flawlessly? Hell no!"
Also, you forgot to add in there the importance of gameplay. And I don't have too much faith in Funcom when it comes to that. You can praise another game for what it gets RIGHT without being labeled a "troll", for heaven's sake. Calm down.
U cant have massive rvr with high end graphics. Why do u think AoC is delayed again?

AoC cant have RvR its Trademarked...
Graphics wise the character models in war look quite static even when in motion, but it will get there.
Even If i much prefer the artistic direction of WAR . I think AoC have very tight graphics. I don't appreciate the more photorealistic approch to art but a lot do. And in that aspect , they are very well-done. I may not like a lot of things about Funcom , but give credits where it's due.

Well if you like people having a bronze skin, well and everything looking like bronze, I guess AoC has great graphics.
edit after reading posts above: yes figures do look static and photorealistic, they look like bronze figures.

Fine if that is your honest answer. But what is the psychology behind posting on this specific forum rather than say the AoC or General forums?

Because the WAR forum is the only one I post on. It's the only MMO that I'm truly interested in at this point.
Overall, I think WAR will be the best out this year. But this would be my ultimate dream game:
Shadowbane's big guild-owned city sieging ideas (unrealized) + Mythic's RvR system and game mechanics + Funcom's graphics. All, of course, lag free. But I'm sure it's a stretch with such high-end graphics.
Graphics aren't everything. Look at WoW vs EQ2 -- stunning difference, but that didn't seem to hurt WoW.
Besides, WAR is a lot further out than AoC. They have time to improve in the graphics department. It will get better, I'm sure.
Ease up. He wasn't attacking your precious. The word "troll" is thrown around way to often and easy. Sheesh.

You didn't get the memo? Oh, well, objective opinions are no longer allowed. You can only post positive things about games on its forum or the general forums, and you must submit to being named called and belittled should you break any of the above.

I also like the graphics in AoC, but those kind of high-end graphics are not suited in an MMO with PvP - ever. Too hard to sync the animations due to tremendous stress for both client and server side. This is why WoW's combat system works so flawlessly in places like AV (40 man BG instance), and even with those graphics, and the time Blizzard have had with the engine, it still struggles with people raiding major cities.
Funcom will have to iron out those issues far too much when it's first released with graphics like that. Which is another thing Mythic have on their side, and that is experience with the engine they're using.

Blizzard beat WAR to the MMO world with WoW, even though WAR came much before WoW did. I think Mythic should have went in a differant direction with its graphics. Still gonna be good though, or so we can only hope.
Just throwing this out there, but Funcom has been using their engine, and subsequents upgrades of said engine, since 1996. IMO 11+ years generates a good deal of experience. Mind you, I'm not here to tout any game better than another. I leave that to others to beat their brains out about as I realize different games and their looks appeal differently to different people. I will, however, correct misinformation where I find it.
From TTH AoC FAQ:
Q: What engine does the game use?
A: The game uses the DreamWorld engine, which was first used for Arnarchy Online in 1996. Since then, the engine has undergone vast changes and improvements to meet and exceed today’s standards. It has recently been upgraded to the "Cheetah 2" engine.

Thanks for that info, Khalathwyr. You bring up a great point. Both Mythic and Funcom have had quite a bit of years in experience with MMOs. They both have had over a decade's worth of experience poured into their respective MMO engines. Mythic is using the same engine they've tried and tested for daoc and I'm sure they've perfected it to the point where there's not much lag (on the server side) in major rvr battles. And that's the most important aspect in open world pvp.

Bah!! I must be getting my games mixed up... who is it using the UT3 engine? That's what I thought AoC was using (sorry about that!), but now you tell me this it makes me interested in the game more.

Cheyenne Mountain is using the UT3 engine for Stargate Worlds. It is set to launch Fall of '08.

There is a reason why the reports of heavy instancing is coming to light.. You can't create a game with high end graphics and have too many people in the battlefields. Aoc may be good, but it won't be massive at all.
