Also, about the mature rating. I was 14 not to long ago and I still played mature rating games. The only reason that those ratings are there is because some sheltered parent wanted to shelter their kids from something that isn't even real. They mean't nothing to my parents, my friend's parents, my friends and myself. I do not believe games promote violence. Some kid shoots up his school who also happened to play Grand Theft Auto. I have never held a real gun and I also played Grand Theft Auto. In my opinion, there was something else that made that kid behave the way he did. Besides were talking like this 1 kid who played the game and killed to thousands who've played it and didn't.
We already know that they are not going to make as much money as they would if they cut down on all the things that warrant the mature rating of this title. They have a target audience. Their target audience are not children, for a change, but adults. They are tapping to uncharted territory as far as MMOs are concerned. The game may have other issues more serious than the mature content that could harm it. However, that exactly thing could potentially give the game longlivity (given it's viability as a fun game of course).
Not all manga out there have children as a target audience. Or movies in general. This is another entertaining media, old to the people involved from it's MUD days, new to most of the people coming this past couple years into the gender. The fact that they are aiming towards a subgroup of the (current) gaming base does not invalidate the product. If anything, it'll give it some special spice that you won't find in the generic market out there.
The mature theme won't harm the game in my opinion. Poor gameplay and lack of fun factors will. I'm sure they know that, hence the constant delays. This is going to be an experiment, in the same manner Vanguard was. If the gameplay is solid and the mature theme is not well received, then the market was not ready for it. But I believe that they've done their homework and have already an estimate of the market they are aiming at. And therefore will be happy with the results they will get given the target audience they are after.

Agreed that most parents don't care..Where I would be concerned is what type of kid is it? As long as it's not taking over their life and they behave responsibily..(by this I mean goes to school and passes and such... the minimal that kids are responsible for)
I'm a teen that enjoys playing MMO's, and when i read about AOC i got sucked in with the talk of custimazation, combat system, and all the other stuff. Then, i saw it was rated M. Personally, i dont like playing M games and wouldnt, especially if it was online. I wish, thought, that they would come out with a simialar game rated T. I know this is very unlikley though, so i just left it at that.
This topic amuses me because it shows how much some people really dont know much about this game. I have 2 major points:
1) Almost every major MMO released in the last 7 years has been released at 1 of 2 times: just before Xmas, or just as the schoolyear ends. Why do you think this is the case?
2) Listen to the devs in thier videos on this very site. They clearly state this game and its entire lore was based on a kind of a cyber-punk, teen boy fantasy world ,and the devs plan to stick to that mold as much as possible.
So not only will this game have a lot of kids playing it but most will be boys. Thats the target audience for every Conan lore based item ever printed. This game will not only have a lot of kids playing but it was designed with teens in mind.
My biggest fear is that there will be lots of teen age kids playing naked women characters running all over. Will just kinda ruin the immersion of the game if that kinda stupidity occurs...
I sure hope they take out PC nudity before the game goes live as I'm not sure how much of that kinda stuff I can tolerate before just quiting in discust.
