This was the link Ive been waiting for. I cant wait to try out the Ranger. By the sounds of things someone has finally done it right.

I wonder how the class fares in PvP?

Well it doesn't make me want to play a ranger any (I'm not a huge fan of ranged types) but it was an informative read nonetheless! Thanks for the link!

Someone has finally got it right??? LOL are you serious?  AoC Ranger sounds exactly like LOTRO's Hunter.  In fact, this "Ranger" class may even be equivelant to DDO's archery/ranger class.

Far from 'getting it right'. More like, copying.  Heck the shot "Heartseeker" is even the exact name of the shot in LOTRO called Heartseeker.

You'd have to go pretty far back to get to the original creator of the "ranger/hunter" class. Most games copy from other games who have copied from others.... Very seldomly do they create totally original classes. LOTRO/DDO both copied content from others, nothing wrong in that at all. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. ;)

    One question here?

Whay ranger can't dual wield with second sword hold in off hand. I can understand as a second weapon degger but shield is kinda wierd.

How could you manage Bow and a shield in battle? I think no way here.

there are shields that u can attach to the arm that holds the bow kinda like a big watch (really big)

    MMO wish list:

    -Changeable worlds
    -Solid non level based game
-Sharks with lasers attached to their heads

I suppose I should be a bit more specific about my comments for those who like to nit-pick.

I was trying to refer to the class balance. I know there have been many a MMO out there that has had a "Ranger" class... and very unbalanced ones at that. By all accounts the team at FC has put alot of thought into their classes and this one will be no less.

I have always been a fan of non-magic using ranged classes and stealth classes... Guess thats why rangers have an appeal to me. I hope this one is as usefull in the PvP game as it sounds it may be in PvE as a support class.

Obviously you won't be using a bow and a shield at the same time.

If you want to duel-wield then I think the Assassin or the Conqueror are the classes for you.

Well, of course the generic hunter/ranger class has existed before.  I thought that was too obvious to mention.  The difference for the Hunter in LOTRO and the Ranger in AoC is that they've become the non-magical nukers.  In EQ1, the Ranger class was never a nuker.  It would take quiver full of arrows to kill a mob while kiting it.   LOTRO was the first MMO that I had played which gave the bow-using class the power it should have.  I'm glad AoC has decided to go that route as well.

I was remembering that some pen and paper games actually allow the use of a buckler (very small shield) with a bow or crossbow and that would add probably a considerable amount of survivability to the ranger. D20 and RoleMaster systems come to mind, there are probably quite few others as well - this is historically correct as well.

Would be cool if rangers would be allowed to use shields while using bow, after all the shield/sword combination would be the least used weapon combination anyhow. One can always hope, right?

Here is a link to d20 SRD rules, just find the word buckler: http://www.d20srd.org/srd/equipment/armor.htm

Thanks for advice. Who is talking about the same time. I only asked, where did you wear a shild when you use a bow. (maybe at the back?)

Dual-wield          I am not talkig about rail gun

There's actually been several games out where 'archers' were non-magical and did not require a 'quiver full of arrows' or kiting to kill a mob.  How long did you play the games you listed in your sig??  I understand if you want to be bias because you like the game you're currently playing, but at least be truthful. Daoc: a scout cankill a mob 2-3 levels above him in 3 shots if they're not gimped.... EQ2 (SB as well): arguably more similar to the ideas behind what with the tracking system and "cheat the reaper" the  rangers could kills mobs in 3 or less shots.  Overall, AoC has taken good ideas from several diff. games (in regards to rogues/archers) and combined them...LOTRO, however did not introduce anything new to the class.  The tracking ability was unique...this damage vs. high ground implementation will be unique(in mmorpgs anyways)...the way they seem to be implementing the climb skill will be unique considering that only rogues can get to come places and high ground = more dmg....and the mounted archery to my knowledge will be unique (even though WoW has discussed it, to my knowledge they have implemented it...at least not successfully.

it seems as though rangers are very vulnerable to melee classes. no escape mechanism if they happen to close the gap. other than a knockback, but that is yet to be seen how effective it is.
