Funny censorship in Germany. Home of the Shiza videos, sickest most demented (sexually) people on the planet. Yet you throw some arms and heads around and they gasp in horror like a Vietnam vet lost in China Town.

I bet the German players are rather furious about the censorship.

America is sexually stupid. They think keeping people in the dark about sex will make them not fornicate. Well, they have it bass-ackwards. The more information and sexually explicit content we see, the less of a big deal it is. Because its hidden and shamed upon makes sex all the more tantalizing.
Who is the ESRB really protecting? Special interest groups? Religious upbringings? The pr0n industry?

By 18, I'd imagine everyone has seen a booby in real life; but, they have certainly never seen a beheading.

Ooohh yeaah! The damn hippies... with their free love and sex-for-all attitudes. They are the reason Americans are not allowed to see boobies in games. Lord knows the hippies almost won here during the 60's, thank God we gave them Aids. That sure shut them the hell up.

I wonder what version of this game will be available in Iran? ROFLMAO.

ya canada gets shafted thanks to the americans. a canadian version (hoping my country wouldn't actually censor it) would be very liberating. but hey, canada has 30million. usa has, what, 300million? =/ (china having 1,400million. hence why everything is made in china:P)

i'm very disapointed in USA's decision to censor a very minor aspect of the game thats soooo superficial.

From what I've read and heard, yes it will.  I guess a Dev posted about it on the AOC forums and stated that US and German citizens can buy the uncensored version by whatever means and use it to play the game.

I haven't read that post myself, that's just what was told to me, trying to see if I can find it now.

Looks like US version will have nipples:

    forums.ageofconan.com/showthread.php

It has come to our attention that the North American edition of the game was submitted (by Eidos) to the ESRB without any server-side censorship:

    -full blood

    -full fatalities

    -breasts with nipples

    -not full nudity

The ESRB reviewed our application and gave us a rating of Mature 17+. The full rating with descriptors has not yet been publicly announced but will be

posted on the ESRB web site on 13 February 2008.

Funcom apologizes for this small error (or maybe two small errors.)

“elsewhere in Europe” it's 18+ with full content.

YES!   Beheadings and boobies for England ..... and why not seeing they were both present in the PS3 Conan game

I used to visit this site a lot however in recent years it has become the home of negative forum posts, illogical opinions and tantrums so I visit less often.

    Played or Beta'd: UO / DAOC / Horizons / EQ2 / DDO / EVE / Archlord / PirateKingsOnline / Tabula Rasa / LOTRO / AOC / Champions / Darkfall / Mortal Online / DCUO / Rift / STO / SWTOR / TSW

I don't agree with game censorship either in games, but for me a pixelated nipple is not a game breaking event.

Would play it if it was rated T too. The game has a whole lot more to offer.

    The point  to remember:

It isn't about the nipples or dismemberment, it's about the censorship for adults.

    Well...

It seems one hand is having knowing what the other hand is doing.

US NIPPLES ARE BACK. THE SURGEONS WERE SUCCESSFUL!

Apparently, EIDOS and Funcom had a wee bit of miscommunication (or the seriously backtracked fast).

  • brenthbrenth Member UncommonPosts: 301

so where do americans have to get the full unnurfed verson of the game from?

ok this sounds good  as I dont remember  the conan stuff having much full nudity so its not hindering anything with the story

Well, guess mmorpg.com needs to make a new article. This one is flawed, apparently.

People rejoice because a mature themed game will not get axed by the people concerned for the welfare of teenagers. Is it only me that observes the paradox?

Aren't there enough fluffy games already out there?

And when will people start respecting my choices? Respect is one of the things that requires both parties to uphold it to be meaningful. I respect people that do not wish to see this game in the computers of their under-aged kids. Will you respect my wish to see it, uncut and unedited, in mine?

MMO gaming is much more of an adult activity than a child's. Demographic studies showed that, otherwise we wouldn't have developers finally starting catering to the real audience of these games.

Now, if AoC manages to steal some of "The witcher"'s narrative thunder, I'll be happy for quite some time.

I am glad to see that nipples are back in. No, I'm not a pervert. No, I'm not going to use virtual nipples for my own pleasure. You guys are failing to see why so many people are upset. It's not the nipples, it's the fact that the game has a 17+ rating, and when you're 18 you can go rent a full on porn at your local movie store. They mean to tell us we can't see nipples when we can go buy porn? Must they really try to control what we see so much? If we want nipples, dismemberment, and violence in games, it should be our choice. Politicians can't get their heads out of their asses and figure out that video games aren't corrupting America's youth, it's simply a hobby, something you enjoy doing to pass the time.

While I mostly agree with this post, equating seeing nipples with a form of love...sorry, that just makes no sense. Sex is not love. You can have love without sex you know. Anyway, small point but it drives me crazy when people use the love aspect when talking about sex.

also, do you really think AoC is gonna take the "love" form of sex? ROFL!

To the original topic, nipples. Holy crap this is sad. While I have children and wouldn't let them play this type of game, I think they see more nipples in their lifetimes than people heads getting lopped off or full fledged sex scenes.

For some reason chopping away limbs is a great taboo here. All Star Wars games like Jedi Knight were censored and the limb cutting was out. You can headshoot and burn and poison, but god forbid to chop off limbs! Dont ask for logic in this! It has more to do with the famous Pavlov reflex and deepest instricts than anything rationale or logical.

What I would like to know if I can buy a UK or US version, or will they look the the IP and STILL block out content??

lol you will not see nipples but can get the head of other one out of the rest of his body... excuse me, but usa is crazy and very cynical

    PLEASE NOTE:

This was stated as an error. The truth of the matter is that nipples will be in game, not full nudity. But the US version will have Nipples.

I think if you were to look at the history of the countries you might find an answer closer to the truth.
I've known some Germans who indicated that because of their involvment with WW I and WW II that they were a bit senstitive to the whole violence thing. And if you look at the U.S. and how we started you might find that it is hard to leave behind a history of inhabitants who came here for religious freedom (among other things). Quakers, Shakers, Puritans, Mormons, heck we have it all and more. So it makes sense that there are some issues with sexuality and nudity. As far as the violence, I can only imagine that a populace that had to carve it's way out of a new land, filled with indiginous people, other factions (colonies from other countries) not to mention people trying to take advantage of a fractured group of people, might have a bit more tolerance to violence.
As far as the other countries (not including Germany because of the above) you are finding older societies, close together, trying to live together in some fashion over a huge span of time. Invasions bringing new cultural elements and it seems that they have had more time to live with and develope more modern attitudes toward violence and sexuality.
    Just a thought.

The problem is that... it's history. It happened hundreds of years ago. Many in this (American) society are ready to move forward, yet there are those who refuse to grow up and move on. I understand where it comes from, what I can't (nor will I ever) tolerate are people who are so closed-minded when it comes to something we see in art and museums all of the time. The same goes with Germany... these are things of the past and I know from speaking with natives that they'd like to get out from under the shadow that WW/II left them in.

    Well, not exactly.

We learn history not to torture young students or maintain jobs for professors but to learn why things were and how they reverberate into the future.

If "growing up and moving on" were an easy thing then we wouldn't have any wars, no one would ever get into another person's face and we would all be living quite well as a global society.

Because remember, as much as everyone thinks that people should be able to do what they want, within reason, it sometimes is hard to find what is "within reason".

The United States is a young country. Compared to many countries out there we are still trying to deal with a very diverse population. Not only is it diverse in race but also in religious beliefs, economic beliefs, etc.

It's a great country in many ways and I believe that the only way that someone really can understand us is to evaluate from within. And from different places. Staying in Boston or New York or San Francisco is not going to give you the picture. The South is different from the midwest which is different from the north.

We also have our problems (as does every country).

So understanding why we are the way we are is just a first step. It's not going to change over night. Just as other coutnries/regions with worse problems aren't going to change overnight.

Would it so easy to solve some of the issues that are going on in the world by saying "it's history, it happened hundreds (and in some cases Thousands - wrap your mind around that one!) of years ago, let's just get it right and move on!", then people would do it!

In any case, there is topless nudity now so at least the woman in the U.S. version won't look like aliens.

Incidentally, you'd be surprised how many people in the U.S. scream "God bless American, land of the free, home of the brave where freedom reigns" only to then bristle when you attack this country and its leaders. Some people in this country who scream "freedom of speech" aren't really aware that that means for everyone, even for people with different ideologies.
The “elsewhere in Europe” version is rated 18+ by PEGI and is unchanged.
Thats good to hear. Had a chuckle about the US rating hehe. You can see heads chopped off (so violence is ok) but cant see nipples (so natural beauty{?} is not ok...)

For God's sake don't pull on your t-shirt like your gonna flash me your boobs and then wimp out....it's frustrating.

Funcom is that tease we have all known in our lives at one time.  She is a girl that promises much but in the end fails to deliver.  And even if at some later point we get to see her boobs, they are either droopy or lopsided, or the nipples are misplaced.

In this case, the nipples are absent all together.

I'm very happy to see that Funcom will be able to include most of the immature content they requested for the various versions of their game. Like many of the posters here, I'm opposed to adult censorship too, even for the immature adults who plan to purchase and play Age Of Conan. I think they should be able to enjoy pixelated boobies and offensive gore till their hearts content. That way while the juvenile male adults are romping around playing with each other in AoC, the young adults, women and mature male gamers will be able to enjoy Warhammer free of their presence. Life has a way of working things out just right sometimes.

On a side note it's curious to see so many euro guys making the silly assumption that US ratings are based on religious convictions or the beliefs of ancestors who've been dead for a few hundred years. I suppose that must mean the euro ratings are the result of europeans having no religious convictions?
