umm you can jump in real life...try to tell me you would be happy in life if u were stuck stationary to the ground? same idea, its a limiting factor...and something easy to implement... why run alllll the way around a small barrier, wasting time, when u could i dunno jump it? it just ruins the realisim w/o it. sorry to sound stupid, but its true, takes away the feel, im in the same boat as the OP

lol i wont deny it at all, is why i dont play eve, or earth and beyond when was out. couldnt identify with the ship. silly i know, but its true, ruins game for me every time
I find the OP's thinking somewhat shallow. As it was pointed out, some games don't have jumping because it does not suit the context. Space ships don't jump. Lets assume for a second that Auto Assault did not fail and in fact was a good game and people were playing it. How the hell are you gonna make a car jump? Short of making it look like a low rider with hydraulic pumps the best you might be able to get is a small hop and even then it's debatable.
No required quests! And if I decide I want to be an assassin-cartographer-dancer-pastry chef who lives only to stalk and kill interior decorators, then that's who I want to be, even if it takes me four years to max all the skills and everyone else thinks I'm freaking nuts. -Madimorga-

I get annoyed in games when it prevents you from walking up a steep hill. At least give me the option of walking very slow (hands and knees, or crawling) up it.
Of course I'm also one of those people who enjoys jumping everywhere, see what I can get into/onto. The best was Anarchy Online, higher your physical stats, the higher you jumped.
Yeh, AO was great with jumping. Overall though jumping is a pretty big deal when it comes to playing a character who would appear to be able to jump. Why is everyone talking about ships and vehicles jumping? Thats a bit of straying. When EVE implements actual character avatars they probably will not be able to jump because they're only moving around a station but in a combat oriented atmosphere or even one that requires you to travel on foot long distances jumping seems needed. Jumping is also very helpful if say you get stuck.

You could jump in AA... I specifically remember jumping both in Avatar and Car combat.
You can still play AA, they call it "Tabula Rasa" now.

It sounds stupid, but I sorta know what he means. Like playing 2Moons after playing WoW(forgive me. :P), it didn't feel right because if there was a hill or something, I couldn't run down it, i'd have to run round. Games build on a good engine, you can usually jump.
This only counts for games where you play as a human/human-like character. Not EvE ofcourse .

Hehe, I understand that space bar comment. Althought I am not that much of an extremist, I like when my character is lively.
He doesn't have to jump per see. But if I feel my toon is older than me...it is not cool. I like my character to either jump, or have some energy to it.
I do expect full vertical movement eventually and no need to ever raid/PvP/RvR however, CoV spoils me. Once spoiled, there is no coming back, I could either rejoin CoV, find a better MMO...or just chat on forums.

I may not jump often IRL, but I do step over objects on a consistent basis. In games with avatars, no jumping means you have to walk around objects. I too become very frustrated by this and will also tend not to play an character-based game that doesn't include jump. Not for the jumping, but for the simple ability to walk over objects rather then around them.
One thing I wanted in SWG sooo much was to be able to jump and the only time we got it was in the NGE where the animation is the worst thing ever and it's even worse than not being able to jump lol.
That's... hilarious. What if they happened to feel like placing the jump button at B for example, then you would have downloaded and installed a game that featured jump and you uninstalled it just because they don't have jump on space.

Why do you need to jump?
Why does jumping make or break a MMO for you?
I found jumping to be nothing more then a cheap way to PvP.

It's a lot less realistic to see people jumping constantly for no reason like kangaroos on crack, than to be unable to jump.

I don't know what you guys are talking about. I 'jump' all the time in EVE, heck, some nights 30, 40 or 50 jumps to get where I'm going.
