Hello everybody! On behalf of the newly formed Live Design team, I’d like to take a moment to introduce ourselves and our goals for UO.

The Team

Allow me to present our newest designer: Adida. She joins us from the world of Game Masters, where she served most diligently and skillfully before relocating with our group to become a designer. Even in the short time we’ve worked together we’ve managed to accomplish a lot, and I’m looking more and more forward to what she can do!

For myself, I started out as a junior designer on UO back in 2005, right after the release of Mondain’s Legacy. Since then, I’ve been bouncing back and forth between groups as needed, and also contributed some of the larger systems for the live events. You may remember me from such disasters as “The Ophidian Invasion,” “The Destruction of Haven,” and the “The Fall of Magincia.”

We’re relatively new, but growing! We also have the advantage of having old friends like Leurocian around (who have their own responsibilities now), and in the grand tradition of Ando and Mesanna, you’ll probably be seeing some new faces from the production staff appearing on test centers.

In short, having a chance to actually work fulltime on the live side of things is an exciting and daunting prospect. So without further ado, here’s what we’re up to:

The Mission

Our mission is to provide UO with the greatest content and gameplay publishes possible. This means Bug Fixes. Balances. Enhancements. New Content. It means delivering a plot arc the likes you’ve never seen, with a dedicated events team who’re passionate about not only UO’s history, but Ultima’s itself.

Those are pretty direct statements, so let’s explore their impact:

  • Bug Fixes, Balances: UO is a brilliant world, thanks to both our fervent community and the years of development the team has given her. UO is also complex: we need to fix the bugs. We have longstanding issues and completely new problems that pop up on a weekly basis. Critical issues that interfere with your enjoyment of UO are as intolerable to our team as they are to you.

Just to be clear: our focus is server bugs, not client. While larger systems will take some time, there’re things that need to change immediately – which leads us to our next topic.
  • Cheating: We hate it as much as you do. We can’t disclose our plans or methods, but be assured that removing exploits and keeping the game fair is a top priority for the Live team. As far as the cheaters themselves? Some of you may know what I can do with a lit match and some blackrock. Expect burned out shells where treasure vaults of ill-gotten gains were once held. Allow me to reiterate: cheating will not be tolerated.

Please report anything you see through the in-game petitioning system, and larger issues to Jeremy through the Feedback system on the Herald.
  • New Content: UO thrives on new content. Britannia was designed as a world, and everything we add to it, permanent or no, leads it further along that path. We’re not only excited about the coming event arcs, but also just the fun, interesting things we can do.

This Valentine’s Day was the first project we all had an opportunity to work together on, and we think you’ll be pleased with the results. Having a live events team again is, I believe, one of the strongest parts of our initiative. After all, Adida can’t wait to show you the surprises she’s prepared for you!

So in closing, I just want to say how happy I am to have been extended this new opportunity on UO: the game I love. Being able to work with people like Leurocian, Mesanna, Adida, and all the new people I’ve met here is an honor, and I can’t wait for you to get to know them better too.

Yours,

Tim “Draconi” Cotten

UO Live Lead Designer

Thats a load of hot fresh cow poop! Passionate about not only UO's history, but Ultima's itself????? If that was true, they would make a real pay to play (old school) classic UO shard for old school fans. Thank god I quit right after they released AoS. The main goal of the UO team now is to make the game even more item based, gear based than it is now, thats it, the end.

I'm speechless. I just don't know what to say....

Don't be terrorized! You're more likely to die of a car accident, drowning, fire, or murder! More people die every year from prescription drugs than terrorism LOL!

    Draconi is the MAN

He was in charge of the most entertaining event i've been involved with in my UO history, and now this.  Ah, yes...UO's future is looking bright.

I met Draconi and interviewed him in Columbus over the summer when him, Jeremy and Darkscribe were there for a UO Townhall meeting. Draconi has a passion for the game and has played most all of the old Ultima games. With him heading up the live team I get the feeling UO is in for some very interesting times ahead. This may be a turn around point for the game just watch and see what happens. I am sure many players will be returning to the game.

Classic old school UO players will not be returning to the game. Not one person on the UO team has a passion for the game, if so, like I said, we would have a classic old school UO shard. There is not a damn thing they could do to the game, its far gone and beyond repair. The UO team did nothing but make UO just like WoW minus the levels, RvR and instances. The UO team will just keep pumping out lame items with lame stats and stupid events and say they are doing an awsome job. Last... the UO team can choke to death for all I care. The UO team are the people that could not handle classic UO and now are making and have made the game a wuss, item based, gear based, no skill candy land for people just like them.

Some people can deal with change, and enjoy what UO has become.  Other people stick their fist out and go play in the biggest candy land ever made...WOW

I think most people are happy now, because it is some news finally on what they plan to do with UO.

Doesnt seem like a lot, but a plan at least.

Uo was the best game around, but they destroyed what they had when they made it item based.

Its been dying a slow agonizing death since then.

I loved UO for what it was, and now I just wish they would finally put the final blow in and end the game.

There is no hope for UO.

Todays Ultima Online is candy land, if not worse! I hate WoW with every ounce of my soul. Yes, the people that like all the lame changes made to UO are the people that couldnt handle the real deal that was classic UO. I doubt that any lovers of classic UO would play todays UO even if it was free to play. So ya? UO is not the same game what so ever that it was years ago. People that PvP on UO these days think that they are bad arse when they hide behind items, gear and scrolls. Take ANY so called PvPer from todays UO and stick them back in time..... OMG.... you have no PvP skills, nublet!

Back in the day in UO, I was a hardcore PvPer, red with my guild and with my name within the top 10 of the wanted billboard on the brit bank wall. I miss those days of true balance of an mmo, now long gone.

I'm a lover of old-school UO and I still play the game.

I doubt that very much. True classic UO fans do not play todays EA pooped on UO. If you do play todays EA UO pee pee, your just another person that could not handle classic UO. How do I know? There are tons of classic UO lovers that play free player run classic UO shards, its against the rules to post the names of them. There are a few that are very popular and the players there hate todays UO and the UO team with all their heart.

If anyone here knows Draconi's , Wilki's ( gone now) , leurocian's  , dedication to UO over the last year or so , and have seen what the can and want to do with UO , alot of players would recognize they want UO to make a strong statement if not a huge comeback and prove the doom and gloomers UO is back..

I've been through it all.  The only reason I have not replied to your post sooner, was because i've been involved in non stop PVP.  The game is a blast as it stands right now.  You can be a full time fel player if you choose.  I quit the game for three years because I could not stand the many changes.  My cousin brought me back into the game about 4 years ago, and I went at it with a completely different mind set.   Now, I pretty much feel like I'm playing the same UO I remember.  Yeah, there are items and scrolls, which actually add to UO's depth.

Free shards are dumb...never waste your time.

Don't act like you know me.

There are two types of old-school UO players:

    1. People that have played since day one.  These people hate EA and the changes they have made, but still continue to play.

    2. And we also have the cry babies. These people love to burn UO to the ground. They won't accept the changes. They play  free servers or don't play at all.

    Let me be crystal clear.

    I HATE EA.

I HATE what they did to a near perfect game.

I would give one of my "pinky" fingers to have a legit, classic, UO server.

Don't tell me I'm not an old-school UO'er because I still play the game.
