    no

I believe that is against the EULA but have heard from others that they have never been banned for this.  I would watch out for connecting to the game via different IP addresses as this is a clear indication there is some account sharing going on.

ok, lemme say it like this, i have played on others accounts alot... in swg, wow... nothing happent... friends nerver got banned either. i think u can play on hes account without worring. Ask a GM in game and file a petition.  Then let us know.

Yes, you can become banned for it. It is account sharing and it is against the Terms of use you signed when you agreed to play World of Warcraft. It's in the first sentence, for heaven's sakes.

You represent that you are an adult in your country of residence. You agree to these Terms of Use on behalf of yourself and, at your discretion, for one (1) minor child for whom you are a parent or guardian and whom you have authorized to use the account you create on the Service.

In other words, if you are 18 and his legal guardian and have allowed him to use the account you created on the service, then it's ok. I'm going to assume you're not his guardian, so you can and likely will become banned. Despite what people have said, all the IP addresses are logged and if it becomes apparent that many different IP addresses are accessing this account, it can be locked for investigation.

Those people who have tried to misguide you obviously haven't read the Terms of agreement they signed, in other words, they probably aren't even old enough to be playing the game to begin with.

how can they know, u allowed that person to use it?

I'm not 100% sure how they "find out" and if it was something we all knew about, I'm sure there would be little reason to include it in the ToA.

I'm going to assume it's done via the logging of IPs. That isn't exactly "the best way", but possible.

the biggest reason people get banned for account sharing is because they announce it in guild chat, general chat, regular chat, shout, whispers, etc and someone reports them. After there is a complaint against that account, it will be investigated.

Wow, I rarely post but seriously, Esther, GROW A PAIR! (haha)  To the main question, you'll be  fine playing the character, people do it ALL the TIME. Just don't be stupid and go around harrassing people.  Have fun on the tank!

Most games have this in there.  I doubt they would ban you for just having a different ip.  Previous posters have stated they know people play at work and such.  So IP changes wouldn't matter too much I would think.  I'd assume as long as you dont cause any issues, they wouldn't really have a need to look at the account, but this is blizzard and they do seem to be ban happy at times.

Grow a pair? *sigh*, I'm sure that's the same attitude people take when they go about searching "World of Warcraft hacks" on Google only to download something that inevitably gets their account information stolen.

When this is a game I have to pay for I like to keep everything legitimate. I've spent more than enough money on WoW to buy me a fairly nice used Car and I don't want to have had it all go to naught because I needed to get that extra Primal Fire on the weekend but was busy with work.

i think your friend just took his laptop to your house and connects to his account from there. nothing will happen to his account

Its against the Eula, but if you keep your mouth shut about it you won't run into any problems. The only time Blizzard really enforced it was back when you had to grind in BG's for honor to get the top ranks.  Some folks would share accounts and they sometimes got banned if Blizzard figured it out.  Average Joe doesn't have much to worry about.

BTW, a really fun trick is to take all the gear off the character including the hearth stone and go run the character somewhere really far away.... don't worry, you'll all laugh about it later.

I have 4 brothers and 5 friends that all play WoW and we have been sharing and playing each others accounts since the game came out.  I have played every account from my house and they have played mine at their house.  No one has ever said anything and nothing has ever happened.

Simply playing WOW should get you banned, now look in the mirror and go slap yourself.

You also have to think about your friend - he's in a guild, he's likely to get kicked because of account sharing, also people might think that he's been hacked and taken over so will report you as your acting differently to him.

We've previously had problems with people who account share - with friends, and they've always been removed from any guilds I've been in - as the friends have usually acted like idiots, unable to play that class etc.

I've also know brothers and sisters/husbands and wives/girlfriends and boyfriends that have shared, but that is something usually a little different.

Forget wow, think of the other people in the game, they might kick him.

All you have to do is scan a copy of a recent picture of yourself eating Cap N Crunch cereal and send it to Blizzards day care help desk department. They have a supercomputer that can scan your picture to make sure you are meet the minimum age requirement to play the game.

As you can see there are varying opinions on this.  Yes, it's against the terms of service, however as people have pointed out, there's really no good way for Blizzard to determine if you have violated the ToS.  They have no way of knowing that you logged in rather than your buddy from your PC and since he can use any PC he likes, even different IP addresses are not in and of itself proof of anything.

Bottom line, is go ahead.  Just be smart and don't do anything that could call the account into question by a GM.  If a GM happens to start asking you questions, you may be headed for a ban, but barring that you are most likely safe.

I would also say that letting the guild leader or officers know about it also as they will be used to the other guy tanking and how he plays, when you start to play in an instance it is pretty sure they will know the difference and ofc if you use the in game chat option they will defiantly know :P

Then they may indeed report you to a GM if they didnt know in advance.

Only if the ISP are very far away could that possiblely tell that story. I log on different IP addresses all the time.
