Unlimited server!!!

What about one server where game time will be not limited?

    I think this is a great idea.

    i had a bio dome set up and was building my own little city then it reset. I was left to wonder what the point of it was....

    i know lots of people that would play this game if it was longer games... or had a server that would play...

    everyone i introduced it to...played it a few days or for 1 game time, and then quit becuase they thought it was a waste if you couldnt keep building

     

    it takes so long to protect a colony that the evil side of the game just waits for u to build them then takes them out....  and uses them for purely increasing experience points

    i woudl come back and play again with longer games

     Id love to see games that would last at least 2 months to actualy beable to develope a couple colonies. I know the past 3 games Ive played the last couple days my colonies were finaly coming into their own and I actualy had the spare credits to do the things I wanted to do most of the game besides trade all the time.

    Id also like to see one where the trade value didn't go down as fast as it does now. Im over 20 hops from Sol on my current game and I still have trouble finding a decent trade route with Buy/Sell both over 70% on most my trade routes.

    Also, let weapons factories produce Turrets faster, or sell them at local starports and not just the big ones. Or perhaps spread weapons merchants through out the galaxy besides the 2-3 UN ones and the one Pirate one.

    I dont Think there should be a unlimited galaxy server. if there is one then what would happen if u mess up? you cant create 2 account on a single server. if you had 2 account, it would be cheap. because you can join a corp n if they sleep in a planet, you can change your account n kill them and they wouldnt know that you killed them. also think about the noobs in that game. if it was unlimited then noobs will suffer greatly because the person taht started first would get a better ship, you can get a imperial starcruiser in 5 days n a seth cruiser in 3 days (me and alot of ppl that played for atleast 3 month can) if they have a better ship then they can just kill the noobs n mess them up, and that means they cant play NE more on that server because they cant create a differant account. also there would be a Great LAG in that game, if the server didnt reset because if it didnt, then everyone that play in anyserver would join that server because they think what you think "i wouldnt waste my heck of the time making a bio-dome to have it disappearing!" unless you know any balance issue for the noobs and the people that messed up their account, i dont think you should even think about unlimited server.

    An unlimited server would basically destroy the fun for anyone but the people who joined right at the beginning.  The starting players would be so powerful and well established that the newbs wouldn't have a chance in heck to play without endless frustration.  It wouldn't work well. Besides, Starport simply isn't robust enough to have games that last that long without people getting bored.

    I would support longer servers though.  Like 1 month, or 2 month servers, with cutoffs for new players joining after a certain date.

    And yes.. I think that there SHOUD be an unlimited server, one where u HAVE to pay to play, and where warpfuel is actualy buyable at starbases.(with in game credits, but u have to pay 5-10 a month to play)

     

    Also, eliminate the admirial club, and make the IG ship aquarable somehow(not to buy, but maybe when u kill NPC's u get a chance to take thier ship, or scuttle it, choose if u want the ship or the cash for the ship.)

     

    One more thing would be nice is more customization.. I wish the devs would go check out that load of crap game, hostile space. U can costomize your ships somwhat, and while hostile space reall ydoes suck(especialy for a p2p game) a few of those ideas Starport could DEFINATY use to make it a great game. And the newbies getting ganked by vet's won't happen, we have lots of UN space u can trade at to get rich, and if u had buyable fuel, customization in your ships(better warp drives, which cost less, better thrusters, better hull - to have more shields, etc) the game would then have a lot of longitivity to it.

     

    One other idea is that u can have one final 'build' option after u got all the rest in a colony. that could be a gas refinery, or warp fuel refinry that can produce WP for your ships. That or make gas giants able to support colonies but they alone can produce WP.

    Yea my spellign sucks, and that is because I think faster than I type. The comment I made was not about his spelling, but his total lack of sentence construction (Do you have??? )

    this still dont answer what would happen if someone mess up on the unlimited server, do they just have to restart their account? or keep it there and ignore it forever? because if you are able to replace their account. people can just ask to be in a corp and then type "/c" to see where they are n then leave... replace the existing account, and then kill them. so that takes out replacing idea. you can tell aaron to let you start over as a starting ship, with starting money, with 0 exp n 1 rep. but that will add more work for aaron to create new add-ons.

     

    i also have a theory. i think people play that game because they know that they are not limited by ALOT from people that pays and from people that does not pay. All that the people that pays get is IG ship. and also, they dont get refills. but that. and with those add-on with paying server. i think most people will leave.

    I really don't see how u could screw up where u can not recover. remember, if the server was unlimited, you don't have to rush. many times I have started a game on the 10th day, with a char I pre made(5000 warp fuel) and had 0 cash and was in a pod.

     

    I was able to recover quite fast BEFORE taxi was added. U just trade in pod for a merchie shipl, collect resources from a planet, and sell them. it does take a while(A lot less time now that u can just taxi them ppl around) but u can have a ship pretty quick.

     

    One way to offset this would be to have a pop-up dialog right away that tells you exactly waht the server is. But, quite hontestly, i can not see how u can get messed up beyond recovery. I may be wrong, but I ended up 22nd place in that game I mentioned before.(started I was 314th place)

     

     

     

    P.S. The original timed games should never be removed. I am thinking of a seperate server apart from the rest which allows unlimited playtime. (would also be nice if u could trade in xp for new stat points to a max of 15 each or something... lol)

    lets see... first of all... if you have to pay for the unlimited server, then no one would wait 10 days, just to get 5000 WP if they pay. and second... what about newbs? or... a person that came in late. because people always makes colonys 1-5 hops away from UN-Space/Sol right? well... a person taht came late would have to make their colony like... 10 hops away. as you know. some newbs just put their dome on a planet and just not care about it. it becomes deserted, and for most of those newbs... they place them like.. right in front of the Blast off things. and some times people give up on it and just leave it there. so the colony places will be taken. making the galaxy bigger wont help. because it will just make it have more room after UN space and they can still be taken in about 5 days. also, the IG planet will be really hard to take, and the artifact planets have to be reset in some way so they cant all be found, in a server "royal battle" the artifacts are all gone now. and now there is no more left.

    What your experiencing is the absence of enough play testing / balancing.  If you cannot kick but and take names durring the finite time the server is up then either

    1.  The developers need to make resource gathering & building easier/quicker.

    2.  The developers have added too many features to possibly experience it in two weeks.

    3.  Your just slow...

     

    Time of Defiance had similar issues in it's early BETA phase but relaxed the system enough so everyone can kick ass now if they dedicate at least 1 hour a day...  Starport needs to do the same....

    image  I would think that an Extended play server would be much better than an unlimited play server. If there was to be an unlimited time server, they would need to "kick" people once theyre idle (haven't logged in) for more than say a week or two. Also it would need a UN protection time period of say 15days (for both person and colony) so that you can get a few colonies going, not lose everything on your second day... Another thing, add more missions rather than just taxi missions, sure the 8+ hop ones pay off but it would also be nice to get a cargo transport mission that is the same way, say cargo and passenger for 10 hops gives you $200K and 10xp but if you use or sell any of the cargo you lose 100xp and the guy gives you $1000 just for taking him

    I will have more ideas later but this is ok for now

    image i agree that the game is expanded too much to be limited but unlimited isnt that good either, extended play sounds like the best option especialy considering that the game is still being added to. so 4 weeks would be way more then enough time to do anything you wanted to...

    I think the crux of why an unlimited game wouldn't work is the fact of Poor Colony Defense.

    In a "normal" game things don't get built up, they get torn down. As the game progresses there are less and less colonies with turrets and mines defending them. As the decent players rape the colonies and take out some of the defenses and they don't get replaced by people who wake up and realize that they are worthless...

     

    The result is that the world is filled with more and more undefended 0 colonist colonies. More and more people can afford the price tag to take over a fully defended colony. Less people are building colonies, more people have neutron scanners...

    The end result of this is that the instant a colony pops out of UN it gets raped in an established game. No matter how well defended.

    This is why an unlimited server wouldn't work. It would become nothing more than a dogfighting game filled with empty husks of colonies.(Not that that's not what the game already is...)

     

    The answer obviously is better colony defense. Make it so 1 guy can't take a fully defended colony..NO MATTER HOW GOOD HE IS OR HOW MUCH MONEY HE SPENDS. Force players to work togther to take over colonies. Add true risk to a colony capture...That means a colony should be able to kill a player, no matter how good he is or how expensive his ship, some % of the time.

    Only then, when colony attack and defense is balanced, will an unlimited game be possible.
