Hi there guys just had a quick question.
I have been looking at some video's on youtube and seems like there is no CD taking place in the pvp/rvr battles I have seen.
Has it been scrapped?
If so that will really turn me off from this game.

personally I hope it is scrapped. CD is a HUUUGE latency creator and usually leads to rubber banding. Hell look at guild wars, missions with as few as 8 people and you get a bit of teleporting with client/server side arguments due to CD.
If War turns out anything like DAOC your going to have significantly larger scale fights... get 50 people all running near each other and your sending the constant positions of the other 49 people to each and every person. That ends up being a rather large number...
Im not saying that CD cant be done... Im just saying with the current technology level... its more trouble than its worth imo.

Collision detection is actually one of the things I'm looking forward to. I hope they keep it in and it works well.

As far as I know is still in. It’s the main reason I’m going to play WAR as a tank
Collision detection only works with enemies not your own faction/friendlys. but yes it is still in there

They (EA Mythic) said recently... I think in the January Grab Bag (I'll have to see if I can find a link) that:
Collision Detection is in. Only against players of opposing faction to prevent griefing your fellow players with things like door blocking, etc.
Even with opposing players, CD is not 100% solid. You can "push through" and get past someone in PvP combat.
Hence, why there are knockbacks in game, so says Mythic.
What I got from this, is that say your a tank. Someone tries to run through you to get at your casters, you'll be able to block them, but not forever. You can't just stand there and be a wall. But you get knockbacks and similar abilities to prevent them from getting through you.
As for latency issues will be a minimal concern as far as collision detection goes. With a well built graphics system thats not super intensive (ala oblivion / AoC) & the fact their servers sit ontop of a M.A.E. hub collision detection between players is completely doable and since no one at play test / demonstrations has complained of Lag due to CD I suspect its a rather well built & clean collision library.
Everquest 1 had collision detection to an extent (damn trolls sitting in narrow passages) and i never had rubber banding issues due to CD, I only ever rubber banded when the server itself was about to crash or my crappy 56k dialup service was sucking wind (i do not miss the ancient days).

If latency is not an issue, they could use it with friendly units too, considering you can push your way through. There would be no griefing. Maybe annoying sometimes yes, but would feel more real in general.
I've heard that Black Orcs will be able to pick up and throw their Goblin team mates.... presumably to get them out of harms way, or maybe to get them out of their way?
Maybe there is limited friendly collision detection..
That is just a skill. No collision detection needed. It is supposed to be used to get a Black Orc between a squishy and the melee fighter beating on them.

lol. CD is the draw for me in this game.
I must admit guys, even from one of the most diehard WAR skeptics (me)- I am getting excited for this game.
Quickly I will explain why I think this is great (all theory of course and based on experiences from FPS / Savage 2 / RTS / etc)
I think in PVP if we can get some minor CD happening it will enrich our experience. I am just imagining Warriors can really TANK. We can perhaps form a Wall/formation, protecting vital assets
You guys remember in World of Warcraft Battlegrounds how Pallies could exploit by casting their bubbles and charge right past defenders til Blizzard fixed?
Well I am hoping this will resolve issues like that. Will also bring us closer to more realistic battles. Maybe we can create 'bottlenecks' on the battlefield somehow, forcing attackers into choke points
My imagination is running wild with possibilities here. They are starting to appeal to some qualities I have been searching for in MMORPGs
yup, tanks that can tank. Collision detection could be good stuff.
