Not sure if you have ever played Shadowbane? I have been playing SB since its release. SB is open PvP with player looting and 0 restriction on killing others. I also like the siges in Shadowbane, although I am mad they took out the /tar option for calling out targets. Shadowbane has 0 quests, its all about war, pking and PvP. Shadowbane is level based but I can roll any toon and be max level in 2 or 3 days with the best gear on although its not that gear based. Any asian mmo's like Shadowbane?
Yea, I did the beta for SB. A lot of of us left UO for it...we didn't make it past beta.
I hear things have changed, but I just never wanted to go back.
I like the PvP and Seige aspect of the game, but that can't be the end all for an MMO.
Well, Mr. Z, I can say that I've played a few games that looked quite a bit worse then the one you've shown. And the fact that it's Free-To-Play means that I'm practically obligated to at least give it a try. I can't promise that I'll enjoy it, but you have my word as a person who has never met an Englishman that I will give it a puncher's chance.
Although, I feel that I must mention that there doesn't appear to be all that much in there (if anything) that hasn't been done quite a bit in other MMOs. A change in scenery, something that's not the Asian or English-style mythical fantasy land that we see so often, would have likely been met with more interest around here. I suppose that this is why your mention of an upcoming Sci-Fi MMO intrigues me quite a bit. Still, in the future, if you have the chance to pick up an MMO that is doing something different, something set in the old west or a steampunk setting or something odd like that, please consider doing so.

I want to actually partner with eGenesis and publish their Alvin Maker game which takes place in the days of Benjamin Franklin. But that is probably a year off.
I think you made a good dicision on games and I see your point. You hear people saying "I wish there was an original game", but then an orignial game comes out and knowone plays it. A friend of mine and I were talking and he brought up a good thought. People complain about movie as well, but someone brings out an original movie and knowone sees it like Donnie Darko. When Donnie Darko first came out it was a dud, but a year or two later now its a cult hit. It doesn't really work the same way with games though because years later people will look at that game and say "that game looks like crap compared to the other games out there".
I have a few game ideas in mind but I have no programming talent, I would love to help develop one, maybe be director or producer, but IF I found people who were willing to put up the money "since I don't have it" and take a chance, who's to say it would be a hit? Look at URU online, and Ryzom and other games that were different and just didn't hit big. Making a game weather it be 1mil or 20mil is someones BIG gamble. Its easier to go with a form factor that works and slowly add different things to the design of different games over time than to just make a 100% different game and hope and prey people play it. Look at it this way, UO came out and Everquest was the 3D but simplified version of that, then games like Lineage came out and they added more, and WOW came out and added more things and we'll see what happens with games that come out this year.
I have to disagree with what was said about F2P games, they are cookie cutters of WOW and such but they're also bringing them out in under 20 mil so their doing the best they can. The thing about P2P games is they get an income of $14 a month, every month from every person who plays. A F2P game they may get $14 here and $10 there, but some people play for free so they don't get that income. Now some of the F2P games I've has as much fun playing as I've had playing P2P. The thing about P2P is if there is going to be a unique game that comes out it will probably come out to P2P because they have the money to spend on coming up with new ideas, now later on those ideas will trickle down into the F2P games.
Being a new producer though I think what you're doing is good because if these games make you money then you can get bolder and try new types of games. I do have some ideas for F2P advertising which I haven't seen done on a game so far. I wish you luck and look forward to checking out your games when they come out. On your website though you should have a way for people to put their email address so if they're interested you can contact them when the games sites are up and running. Mine is hellcat5@hotmail.come if you want to contact me.

Depends for an end all. Some players are wusses, cant handle PvP and want nothing but quests and items. For Shadowbane end game is PvP and to own people hard. In the time it takes to get max level and gear on a free asian mmo, I could have a Shadowbane account with all the char slots full of max level toons. Well I would play your asian mmo grinder if you paid me $30 an hour, that seems fair? I know I dont want to come home from work just to go back to work on an asian grinder.... so yep $30 an hour seems fair.

Yes most asian games seem to be reruns of the same stuff. usualy 4 classes. mobs just standing around a field, just walk a little further out in the field to find the next lvl mob, limited and dumb quests. Unfortunatly usualy run by half-arsed, couldn't care less about hacking/griefing GM's..
But they slowly and surely get better and some are pretty decent. Flyff was ruined by the corrupt gm's but that game added something new. Fairlyland is a different and cool game, not the type some people might like but its original. Alot of the newer ones i haven't got a chance to play look like they might be decent too.Just a matter of time before one does a few more things right.
btw, you can't pm you here and your email doesnt work. always something with you hoopies :P

Guitano youre pretty disillusioned about how good Americans are in PVP. I played Shadowbane for a while , it was always zerger , and it was never tactics. The Japanese / Chinese / Korean (honestly dont remember which nation they were from) completely rolled the Americans when the game was dying , it was a massive guild + allies they smoked.
I remember people throwing racial slurs at the "invaders".
You ever play on a Chaos server from say Korea , or Japan? Takes a 1 day to max out level and gear, the pvp is insane , 1k or more people showing in and around the siege.
China currently has several games with seiges , conflicts and war , I get 200 ms lag but the Chinese completely destroy Americans. The tactic goes like this :
Ok lowbies hit the tower , while the high lvls defend , zerger!
DAOC had some tactics , but mostly it came down to roaming zergers to beat one 1 guy.
----------------------------------
Anyhow pvp only cant be a mass appeal game , and pve only cant be a mass appeal game. It needs both equally. Without one or the other it becomes a niche market , supported at a major loss to the owner.
Finding the right balance depends soely on publisher , bad publisher pushes the developers in the wrong direction and kills the game.
----
Asian Grinder is racist (or nationist?) term , Vanguard , Eq2 , Eq1 , FFXI , SWG , DAOC all some element of grind. FFXI made by Square has more intense grind than Lineage 2 , you dont even move when you grind (if you do than you die or wipe the party).
Most games can be boiled to grind , same way most movies can be boiled down gore thrill or western.
But whatever , I hope Darkfall gets released in your lifetime so you can be happy.

I dont know what drug you smoke? In Shadowbanes prime, my guild was very and I mean VERY organized when it came to PvP. My guild didnt random recruit so if we took your ap and you didnt follow guild rules, you got kicked. We had a set of target callers, so if one fell the next one take over. There was times when we had just a full group of ten take out 20 or more people, no bs. My guild is VERY tactical when it comes to PvP and we owned the pants off asian gamers. My guild no longer plays SB, just a few of us in wait for Darkfall online. I know what you mean, SB, there are no more guilds to be feared like the old days. Maybe you should find a guild that works as a team rather than some lame PvE guild that gets OWNED by asian players. IMO asians suck hard at PvP, all they have is ((((((((massive)))))))) numbers. I could name off a few AMERICAN guilds that have been around for years that own in PvP.
Its 2008 and all the mmo's these days, the guilds do nothing but random recruit BF morons that make a full guild of arse wipes. Alot of guilds these days are nothing but scum, like recruiting everyone from barrens chat. The asians came to SB when it came free to play. There was a few asian guilds when the game was pay to play.
Much respect to you Z, you're a courageous soul to come here and reply to all these folks.
I will give your titles a fair try and who knows, it might be much better then expected. I myself work in the gaming industry (No, i'm not a tester lol) ... I haven't working on any particular MMO world but I did help on a few titles in the past few years ... One thing I can agree with you is that MMOs = RISK... It burns or fly...
It's important to see someone like yourself taking part of the community and have the balls to survive the flames! People should by respect just give your games a try and see.
BTW, are you Steven C. Wade?
If you are well, you are living up to your legend and if you're not well you rock :P?
Seriously, I know I look like a little fan girl atm but I don't think people understand what you're trying to do. First, you're bringing a new level of communication to the community, second you're helping a new generation of developpers that might one day spawn the ultimate game and third, you're merging totaly different cultures together.

Thanks Ponico,
I'm actually fairly surprised with the responses I have gotten here. Not about the game, i know it is gonna do alright -- BUT my reception has just been great. So far I have been called a Legend, compared to Lord British or Robert Sirotek did before they went to the dark side. Really, anymore and my head will explode.
It might be important to note why I act more like an informed fan then a CEO. One of my earliest roles in the game industry was Editor on a Stratics.com portal. ( I was also a backup writer here to, but the management never gave me an assignment )
So at this time they had awards for EQ & UO community managers. Really, i think there was like 5 MMOs at the time. They had a little quote introducing the award. It always stuck with me:
The community relations person should be up to date, reliable and responsible for there never being anything out that shouldn't be out. Gamers should be informed or able to reach reliable and official information through simple and robust channels, instead of having to read through a load of crap. We're just getting started – the panel is getting very excited, and threats of removing half their rations of carbonated soft drinks are almost not enough. ‘How about the personal touch?', I ask my imagined gamers. In their opinion, every copy of the game should come with a personal, ready-to-move-in-and-eat-pizza-boxes representative of the company. While this might not be entirely realistic, some kind of personal contact would be nice. A sense of humour always helps, and rapid replies to support requests do too.
-Stratics.com
Ya I wish it was more epic too, but regardless it works for me. Another factor, that I am a fan rather than a CEO maybe cause that I am only 24 *Shrug* In any case thanks for the kind words, I look forward to seeing you in the Zyon community
Stage6 is back up finally, any chance we will see those videos up in divx quality soon?
I remember seeing a little about this game a while back, but i haven't heard much about it and I only saw a few low quality videos of the game. I'm looking forward to learning more about it and I appreciate the videos. I would really love to see them in higher quality though.
So why are you just looking for MMO's from Asia instead of around the world to publish? There are probably some good US and EU devs that would love to get their foot into the market.

This looks great, I like MMO companies run by knowledgeable gamers instead of number crunchers in suits that probably have not even played a single video games in their whole life. I totally agree microtransaction based games (item mall/ad supported games) will be the future of MMOs. It's an emerging market and one that looks like it's gonna be huge in the next few years. I'm looking forward to seeing interesting new titles coming out from your company (like Secret, Childhood <-- interesting title).
I think the near future market scenario will be that subscription based and microtransaction based games will run both side by side each with their own consumer base.
Playing: Xsyon. Played: Tried: Ultima Online, Everquest 2, Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures, Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning, Flyff, Perfect World, Silkroad Online, EVE Online, Ryzom.

Alot of the newer ones i haven't got a chance to play look like they might be decent too.Just a matter of time before one does a few more things right.
btw, you can't pm you here and your email doesnt work. always something with you hoopies :P
just checked, support@zyongames.com is working fine

Yes Pon. it is "THE" Steven C Wade, my buddy ;p
ive been lucky enough to work with him for over a year now, and it has been awesome .
Of course me, mieuychan, will be working on Secret online as well, so expect to deal with me a lot !

Ya I wish it was more epic too, but regardless it works for me. Another factor, that I am a fan rather than a CEO maybe cause that I am only 24 *Shrug* In any case thanks for the kind words, I look forward to seeing you in the Zyon community
Hehe, cool thanks for the replies.
Stratic heh? You guys tried to recruit me back when I used to work for rpgplanet lol :P
Mr. Wade I noticed you mentioned Darkfall in one of your posts on this thread.
Could you please explain in your professional opinion why you consider Darkfall will never release in your lifetime?
And If you have any insider information from the industry could you possibly disclose it in the interest of us poor uninformed members of the public.
I think the near future market scenario will be that subscription based and microtransaction based games will run both side by side each with their own consumer base.
Sweet, an honest publisher!
