Any thoughts on Avatar "size" increase?

It would be nice if maybe the total file size of the avatar limit was maybe increased from 8k (which is extremely meager compared to other forums) to about 50k or 100k? Keep the actual dimensions of the avatar limit the same but I want to be able to use .gif's as avatars. Any way this could be feasible?
