I'm middle Rper and PVPer. I like both but I usually don't have the time to become the number one PVPer in a game. My fave PVP is planetside, EVE and EXTEEL. I like item decay because this means, mister legendary sword will only have it for a limited amount of time. It gives the chance to everyone to become the godlike player for a while.

In SWG, I had around 16 different carbines in my backpack. They each had a different bleed or burn. The secret of carbine is that you could stack EACH burn and bleeds together... So I started weak but if you were still alive after I had stacked over 16 bleeds and burn, your health would simply go from 5K to 0 in 2 ticks hehehehe :D

I like when there are no form of PvP whatsoever; on my server.  As peoples here would focus on what I care about, I will be with peoples I CARE for.  You can go l33t killing on another server, won't be there to see it.

lol what the heck? What a pathetically useless post....

If you wanna be a carebear stay in PvE games, who's telling you to PvP?

    You fail

Apparently, many devs forget to bring a full PvE options (raid-free as well, we don't like to raid anymore then PvPers do), and they wonder why they are not as successfull as they could be.

Insults all you want, but don't cry when you see games you like fails miserably because they lack the revenue increase which PvE servers would have brought them, yet...they didn't made these PvE servers.

I suppose partial looting as I like the way EVE handles it. If you do a ship scan on someone and see they have a module you want, you have to risk your ship for the possibility to get it. It's entirely possible to waste a gang of ships and discover all you got for it was cheap T1 modules.

I prefer looting over none as that brings risk into using better modules. You perform better, but at a greater risk as the loss will hurt you more.

What would it remove from you if an extra 200k players join the game and an original 50k switch servers?

Games doesn't have a second chance for first impressions.  Ever heard of a COLD-WAR? :P

With the way most MMOGs are now, I would not want looting, characters and gear has to be MUCH more balanced before I would play it, otherwise it is kind of a waste of time.

But I really get no thrill out of high risks/reward, I would prefer a distance penalty, kind of a load from last checkpoint, checkpoints being towns and camps.

But if I were hypothetically making a game I would have servers for several playing styles.

Don't you worry little buddy. You're dealing with a man of honor. However, honor requires a higher percentage of profit

I'm much more of an RPer than a PvPer; to be honest, I hardly ever PvP unless it fits my RP or conditions. Which means I won't attack someone just for the sake of it, unless I have motivation to do so by role. Looting from PvP is something I rather dispise, any kind, but I do agree to imposing a penalty on loss of PvP. So far the only acceptable penalty I can agree with is temporary participation penalties.

I like PvP to be fun for all; loosing something you may have worked hard for personally (items, cash, xp) does not equal fun but irritation for most. Unless it's easy to regain all you've lost, then I might see it as doable. At least that's my opinion. Item decay ... well that's a no-brainer; that ought to be in any game with a player economy.

That said, i'm not much of a fan for FFA PvP as it is now; I currently prefer RvR or FvF. But I can see why some might find it interesting. Then again I can also see why some don't like any PvP at all. What I've never seen in any game so far, and please, do correct me if i'm wrong or name the games you've seen it in, is an optional FFA tag with cooldown timer. If I should opt to attack anyone, anywhere, I ought to be able to choose to tag myself and be open for it without possibility of reverting my status for a said amount of time. That way it should be easy to everyone to enjoy their gameplay on the same server, be it PvP or PvE; as long as there's a choice.

In an open world type of PvP and not an instanced version, I like some looting, maybe 1 or 3 items but not full loot. I like my PvP with an RP twist too. The best type of PvP is Guild PvP.

If WAR doesn't have a serious amount of PVE, it will fail. They will talk a big fight abut it's PvP, but in the end it will be a PVE game with PvP, just like they all are.

I'm the same as Anolfalye, PvP and RPG don't mix well. No PvP is fine by me, although I feel a game needs soem kind of consentual PvP as many players like to do that even if I don't, and I like my games to appeal to all my friends, not just myself.

The PvP I'm looking for is usually squad based, with no respawns 100% death penalty, 1 life only. I like total player balance and combat that's tactics are enviromentally dependant.

(Not gear/level based walk up to something and then button mash).

    Planetside had good PvP.

You are completely wrong, the only reason people are so hyped about WAR is because of its RvR and PvP

If you're thinking WAR will turn out to be a major PvE game... think again, or consider playing AoC if you're thinking of playing WAR....

The PvP crowd say exactly the samething about AoC. (They all say try WAR for PVE).

They say the same about WoW. Is WoW a primarily PvP game? 2/3 of it's servers are PvP only.

It's not going to happen mate, it's just a sales pitch. They will tell you the game is going to be whatever they think you most want to hear.

So they tell the PvP people how the game is all PvP centred, and the PvE people how the game is all PvE centred.

You will run quests to go up levels. You will kill 10 orcs.

So the OP brought in a discussion about PVP and it got highjacked by people that hate PVP hehe.

Forums are also a good form of PVP btw.

For me, true PVP is oldschool Quake 3 in a real Cal-invite match against some of the finest players in the world. It's a bit more like a sport then an MMO but nothing beats the heat you get from that... I've always found it a bit more boring to run around and get killed by someone that has simply more gear then me. (I still enjoy it... just not as much)

If you have the time, here's an example of what PVP is for me :P (It's still players versus players you know!)
