Any Advice?

Hello all,

After reading some posts as of late, people have me intrigued about a lot of changes that have been made to the game since its release.  I was in the beta for a bit and that was actually the last time I played the game, it just didnt seem to be what I thought it could of been.

Anyway, like I said I am intrigued by some of the posts here and with their new promotional monthly fee I have decided to download the free trial and go from there. With that said, do any of you have any advice to a returning player that hasnt played since beta?

Looking forward to your comments and thanks in advance!

Ah, but one, ONE of them is a warrior,
and he will bring the others home.

Some of my advice that has helped me...

Tell the group you join you are new and to go slow not to rush if there are people in your group playing alts. That way you won't feel rushed and enjoy the dungeons, you can rush later.

Don't be afraid to join or make a group. Just say you are new and you'll still get quite a few people wanting to join.

Bad PUGS are going to happen now and then. Don't let that decide the game for you especially in the low level dungeons. Group with several guilds before deciding on one that fits your playstyle and time schedule. By then you will enjoy the game x100 times more!

Get a muckbane from Durks Got a Secret quest in the leaky dingy pub. Helps so much on blobs! Yeah you'll probably run that dungeon many many times before Muck makes an apperance.

Turn on voice chat in game even if you do not have a mic.

Grouping is a lot more fun in this game than soloing. And doing the dungeons with a group on hard or elite is a totally different game than doing it solo! Give it a try!

    A little advice:

Pick Up Groups "PUG's";   There's good ones and bad ones.  We all have horror stories of the PUG that went wrong although I contnue to join them since some of the best gaming experiances I've had in DDO are with people I've never played with before.

Guilds - guilds are really nothing more then over glorified Looking For More "LFM" chat channels.  Use your friends list and be sure to add someone you enjoy after running a few quests with them.  This is the best way to get introduced to guilds if you would like to join one.

Dont buy into the min/max template fotm's (flavor of the month) builds.  They tend to lack diversity and are normaly built for one thing and one thing only while failing without certain equipment.

Potions of Healing - buy them and keep them handy.  Always drink them and never wait for a cleric to heal you.  This is largely the most understood aspect of the game for a new player.  Too often players under level 6 don't have potions on hand - I've even had people from a PUG that didn't carry potions, and they were capped at level 14!

Use the Looking for More group finder.  Be sure to add "New Player" or something similar.  There should be people willing to help you out to get you more famiarlized with the content - and don't forget to ask about the new stuff.  ;)

See the outdoor areas.  There's at least a dozen zones which provide for outdoor experiances that have chests and give experiance points.  The lower level zones aren't too rewarding while the higher ones are VERY good and have some of the best loot in the game; The Orchard and The Vale.

Voice chat - it is needed for the best possible experiance while playing DDO.  You will also want to make adjustments to the default audio settings since the most sounds will be louder then other players.

    most importantly, have fun!

Thanks for the advice, much appreciated!

I rememeber a couple of the lower dungeons and did have fun and as far as PUG's well used to those anyway so no worries.  As far as buying the heal potions, are they some what cheap? Or is it not so bad because coin is fairly easy to get in the lower lvls?

Unfortunately wont be able to do much till friday but will definately hit it this weekend pretty hard.

Just starting out, potions can be a little expensive BUT the various collectibles can be turned in for free ones

    Forget to mention:

DDO heavily relies upon voice communications during game play.  Not speaking isn't nearly as much as an issue as not being able to hear.  Be sure to turn on Audi Chat so you can hear others.

A cheap microphone works wonders.  I paid $6 for mine and it works.

Being able to talk to your group isn't nearly as important in the low levels as it is in the higher ones.  When running elite content it's good to have everyone on the same page sine a party wipe is never fun, altough I recall the best laughs I've had in game were situated around them.  :)
