Newbie tips?

Does anyone have a list of basic tips for newbies who want to succeed in the game? I'm confused by vehichles, so I stick to infantry, but I usually get butchered quickly.

I also need to figure out how to contact a squad, I wanted to join the razorbacks.

Each squad follows its own recruitment method. Find the razorback website and there's probably a guide somewhere in there.

Some infantry newbie tips: Don't walk, ride. If there's no transporting vehicle around it probably means there is no serious attacking going on.

Churches and thick bushes sometimes hide snipers. If you don't have the time to check those out simply avoid them.

Use the the "q" and "e" buttons constantly. It's very important to maintain situational awareness.

Sound is your friend. Until you can tell the difference between a friendly rifleshot and an enemy one if you hear anything at all run for some cover.

The game's about patience. Never rush directly to an enemy's position. There's usually a stealthy approach possible.

Find a place the enemy really wants to get back. Setup somewhere in the area between where he spawns and where he needs to get. Careless people still play this game.

Use as many bullets as you have to. Don't try to save some for later. You're probably not going to use them all anyway.

Find some cover before deploying your lmg. You're a very easy target since you're not allowed to move. Don't make it easier for them. If you meet an enemy rifle with your lmg do the Rambo thing and don't deploy but try to close down on him. He has the advantage over long range. Keep zigzaging until then. Same for the SMG.

Don't stay in the same spot after 4-5 shots. Almost everyone uses Teamspeak. They'll know your position soon enough.

Can't think of anything else atm...;/ Since you're probably playing with allied equipment I can't provide help for each specific weapon though I realise that's the most important part. I'm sure your squad will provide you with all the useful details(especially a sapper guide). There's also Snoop's training video, which might be of some help.

Good place to start are snoop's infantry Videos.

The only big piece of advice I can give to infantry is... "Only run when you have to, only move when you need to, move slowly keep your hed down and LISTEN alot." I've wiped out more enemy infantry squads then I can count simply because I sat tight, watched my flanks and let them move into a good position for me to shoot them from.

Best way to learn vehicles is once your with a squad or a veteran player you can multicrew or each take a vehicle and work together supporting one another. That way they can give you instruction and show you methods of attack and retreat etc.

Also Voice communications is a real big help if you have Teamspeak on your computer ask for access in game so that once you get in someone can register you once your on the server. Even if you don't have a microphone having Teamspeak is handy because atleast then you can hear the battlecomms and keep up to date, and just respond in text on the appropriate channels. Its freeware and easy to find.

Heh, that was like recieiving a cookie-cutter college acceptance letter.

Great news, I got my first kill today. The base was under attack, I was wandering stupiely around the open spot (Not one of the conveniently placed holes infantry can crawl under, the full open area for tanks.) An axis ran across the area, I guess he was new too. I shot from the  hip using the rifle, it was more of an accidental hit, I clicked in surprise, I didn't even have the aim up. Well, I hit him. Then I tried to crawl up somewhere, and I was shot. It was worth it, though.

Ok realize that I have only been playing for like 3 1/2 months so take this with a grain of salt.

Playing as infantry, I have learned a few nice tricks.

First off is Patience...you need LOTS of it.

Second, movement is death and life.  Move too much and you attract attention...and if you are seen you usually end up dead.  Moving smartly (under cover, using terrain to block and setting up in cover) means you get to deal out death.  I recently took out 6 guys and an opel because they decided to drop in an open field about 100 meters from my position (well in cover).  Needless to say a few rifle shots later I was a happy man.

Third never approach the enemies suspected position directly.  Always try to flank or come at an unexpected angle.  You will learn more about this as your time progresses.

And finally ( I would say more but im at work and dont have a bunch of time) dont be affraid to use channel 99 in game (help channel) and ask questions of your fellow players...most are more than happy to help out.  Feel free to .m me if you see me in game as well.

Man I used to play on such a crappy comp back in the day i didn't get my first kill until like a month after I started playing.  Got me a nice system now and am whipping butt big time now.

Main thing I can say is get your sounds down pat.  You really need to know if that is a panzer engine or a friendly so it's safe to move.  I just got back from playing axis for about 8 months and joined back up with the brits and have died quite a few times becuase I used to hearing the panzer as a friendly tank and I run out in front of them.  Also, don't take the first shot you can get at someone unless you totally have to.  If your in a nice spot, wait on him to do something stupid like stop and then shoot him.

Always be alert, check ews at the map before you spawn in. Use cover everywhere you go, it could mean your head doesn't get blown off.  Also, if possible never get on top of depots or in churches for an extended period of time, I snipe people there all the time it's my favorite place to kill people.

You can get teamspeak at www.teamspeak.org. That's about all of the helpful advice I can give you.  Spend time at the offline practice or on the training server shooting at targets, the more time you spend at it the better you are.

Yeah the learning curve for World War II Online seemed steep to me when I first started. It took me at least two weeks before I was able to start killing more often then I was getting killed. I think for the first two weeks I had like eighty sum odd deaths and only ten kills or so.image Eventually things picked up though. I joined a squad and planned out how I was going to get where, instead of just running straight to the flag at full sprint.image It's much more enjoyable when you're not the first to die in battle, but someone's got to take the first bullet.image

This is odd, I decided to go to priority missions and wait the ten minutes (I did try to go to useful combat-filled areas to do my part) and  Got the rank of corporal, I did this for both the French and British. What's odd though, is when I went into a building with an SMG (I saw someone going in to cap the building) I was shot (I think it was an unfair kill, I shot first, they were prone, I basically hit them, but oh well) I couldent use an SMG any more, it just wasn't listed. All that was listed was the standard private-rank equipment.

The only thing I can think of is the mission you were on might have expired and you defaulted back to the army base basic list.  It has the rifleman, the small anti tank gun, the standard transport truck and I think the scout vehicle as its base list.  You can always back up once more and pick a new mission if someone has posted one and take the smg again.  By the way its still some-what of a problem.  You kill someone and if they are looking right at you they kill you.  Due to peoples quick reactions and kill messages taking a bit of time to get to each others computers both players die.  (At least thats how I understand it).  Best bet is to find that good cover and hit the enemy when they dont expect it.

Hope you are having fun by the way...I should be back in the game soon, been working a lot lately.

Another nice tip I'd like to pass on is death cam or despawn cam.  When you despawn the camera makes a rising circle showing the area around your posistion when you died or despawned.  If you were not able to see what killed you while you were still able to fight this might give him away.

Conversely, when I get a kill I think about his death cam and if I am a bit away from him I try to move out of the view of his death cam, if I am closer I will stay put until I think it's done so he can't see which way I left the scene of his death.

Yeah I've gotten a few kills just because some people would kill me I would see them on the death cam and go back to the spot I as killed. And much to my surprise and delight they were still in the same spot.image Nothing feels better than shooting someone 1m away that just killed you 5min ago.image

The mission might have expired so it defaulted you tot he basic equipment...

or it could just be that there were no more SMG left at that point in time.

Besides Play Axis, we like people over there, the Allies only like you if your a sheep or wearing a wool sweater ;)

There's a very good strategy guide located there that will probably help a bunch of the newbies out a lot.

If you find that you die and can't spawn what you originally were, you've probably defaulted out of the mission - select another mission and you should be able to see the full spawn lists again.

Sounds like you respawned without taking a mission.  That only lets you take non-mission equipment..  which is private level staff.

    Biggest tips I can give?

    1. Newbies die a lot.  It's unavoidable.  Don't let it faze you.

    2. If you want to practice.  Use offline or the training server.  Equipment on the main server is limited.  Crash a plane trying to take off...  and that aircraft is GONE for three hours.

    3. Awareness is life.  See the enemy before they see you...  and you should win.  [or at least hide].

One of the best tips is to join a squad. Most squads provide regular training, plus they automatically provide a cadre of experienced players who are more than willing to help out the newer members. I learned a LOT from my bros in the 26.Panzer Division.

As someone said earlier, mission probably expired. Make sure you take the p1 missions, and gain the rank of Captain to get binoculars. Binoculars enhance the inf game a lot. After you have them, you will not know how you made it without.

No it is because CPs only hold a certain amount of SMGs in the list - unlike an AB that holds it all for free spawning - only a Hold At All Costs command will make a CP open for spawnin all Inf material in town that there is
