Not really DDO, but would be good fun

I can see alot of people dissagreing with me here but i think they should expand on the pvp a little more. I love this game as it is anyway, its awesome, but if they added some way to make people want to pvp aswell rather than the "slap on" pvp there is now it would be really cool.

I know pvp really isnt very DnD but the fact is they have broken the rule anyway... The NPC even says "Duel to the death" when you talk to him. I just think with the current mechanics pvp in the game would be alot of fun and i think it would not be very hard to create some areas where people could go to to pvp and maybe get a little reward.

Even if it is a bit unbalanced i dont think the population would really mind considering it wouldnt be a big part of the game but more of another thing to do. I just dont think the current pvp system is enough.

What do you think?

Started playing mmorpg's in 1996 and have been hooked ever since. It began with Kingdom of Drakkar, Ultima Online, Everquest, DAoC, WoW...

It might surprise you that I actually agree

While I think PVP should never be "open", never have unique powerful rewards, and never grant favor or experience, I'd love to see a much more robust system.

I think tying it to titles and rankings, even allowing some of the guild housing to be tiered and possibly even have guild housing trophies would be great.

They've talked in some of the recent interviews of definitely looking at some of these, and I think it would help the game a lot.  I know a TON of people who turn to a lot of PVP during the between mod blues, and it can be a real blast!

I am not opposed to GvG contests, I just find the standard arena PvP (deathmatch, capture the flag etc.) unaspiring. Now if they were to let two groups in to a quest at different points with the same objectives, PvE mobs, traps etc, and the potential for PvP action, I could possibly get in to that.

More of a proper contest, than a fragfest.

You know what else could be fun, is if Turbine incorporates the Monster Play from LOTRO...it's about the only feature of that game I do like LOL!

A Tangleroot-like area with open PvP [and multiple entries to cut down on spawn camping] would be cool.  Another feature that might be neat would be to have a wager or stake - where each team/individual puts up an item of x value which goes to the winner(s).

Yeah, I used to post in the main forums a LONG time ago when PVP first came out, that they could make it a lot more interesting by setting up duels in the tavern...complete with a bookie, spectator section, and wagering!!!  Doesn't seem like it'd be that hard to implement either.

The greatest concern with adding PvP is whinning, flaming, trolling and e-peens.  With this comes character class "nerfing" to balance encounters that reverberate across the game for even those, whom are a majority, that have absolutely no interest in PvP.

Currently there is a pretty good Death Match and Capture the Flag form of PvP.  The tavern room bralls are pretty lame, in my opinion, and there's absolutely no reason to bother with it.

There has been mentioning of a PvP Ranking system being implemented and if I'm not mistaken we're supposed to see it VERY soon; 6.1?

For the record, a high level caster in pen & paper rules will always beat an equal level melee character.  It should not be changed anymore then it is.  If any "balancing" were implemented I expect the entire community to revolt.

Totally agree mind, and in fact when it was announced that PVP was introduced this was a HUGE concern.  The main forums literally went nuts because of fear of "balancing".

I think as long as they keep it as "sideline entertainment" and not meaningful, you'll not see too many cries for balance, and what you do hear will go unanswered.
