There are some problems with Asian MMO's in general... -They focus to heavily on pve and not on pvp. - Character creation and uniqueness in general is rare, 1 in 4 characters is a clone and all classes usually wind up with the same item sets. -Instead of polishing existing content they worry about rushing out new content (aka world expansion and raising level caps). - Translations are emotionless and dull, while not bad grammar wise they usually sound like they were translated by R2D2. Its very obvious they use contracted companies to bulk translate text in most of them. - Servers should not be in asia, it gives English players an unfair ping disadvantage. - They need to cater more to the U.S. market if they except any type of success sales wise. Americans and asians don't necessarily like the same things. All these MMO's are all to obviously targeting an asian crowd and all they did in the English versions was change the text. - More than anything on earth I hate "click to move" any MMO that does not support WASD or at least the arrow keys had no chance of me buying it. I know asians like it but I absolutely loathe it.
Im really hoping these are not present in Aion
Dude I'm quite sure aion won't have any of this flaws u just mentioned for one it's an PvPvE type game I don't know about any of u guys but i never played an mmo that had that. Besides most of the things you mentioned are problems most f2p asian games face and I sure as hell know Aion won't be a f2p game lmao. As for instancing goes as long as the game have good game play, a decent flying combat system and no bots I could careless of the instances they put in. I just hope NC Soft does a good job with this game, Which for sure I know they will.
Ohh yeah lag. I always wonder why EvE Online can handle over 50k players on one server and no one else in the industry can figure it out. Maybe intelligent design applied by artists, programmers, and server engineers is required. Call CCP for a clue.
Eve lagged when I played.
The Eve server goes down for maintenance EVERY day for 1 hour.
Eve is constant zoning everytime you dock or change systems.
While Eve works fine, it is hardly an example of a state of the art server.
Actually, it is an engineering marvel, but first you need to take a few things into consideration. To start with, its not a single server, but rather a single world spread across multiple server instances.
The overload happens when there is too many players on a single instance, and that is the technology challenge that CCP still works on to try and improve. We may have to wait for future hardware to be created before that day arrives though.
True, EVE goes down for maintenance every day.... annoys the heck out of me, but no more than WOW did by shutting down for most of the day on Tuesdays. (thank God I wasn't an Aussie)
But back on track, we'll have to wait and see if AION truly breaks the mold from previous NCSoft efforts or is just more of the same.

I sincerely hope you never get to beta test a game. For it's quite apparent that the only reason you would "test" a game is to see if you like it, not to help with its development.
Also, I find it funny how you've clammed up about NCSoft developing Guild Wars when the point was made that ArenaNet did developed it, who are indeed a subsiduary of NCSoft. If you can't admit to your overgenerialsed mistakes, then you're nothing but a troll.
You came here, made a mis-informed statement, and now continue to beat the dead horse to make yourself feel better (or look less stupid). If you have a question to ask, ask it. But no, you're incapable of using the common sense it takes to do that.

Newsflash: 99% of the people who beta test do so for selfish reasons. This doesn't mean they can't report bugs while serving their own interests. Though, any company that actually relies on free labor as a substitute for paid labor to beta test their product is retarded, which is why we see so many incomplete buggy releases of late. Most MMOG developers use beta tests as a way to market their game as well.
NCsoft owns Arenanet and therefore shares the credit for developing Guild Wars, get over it. They wouldn't list themselves as co developer as I have shown, if they didn't want part of the credit, good or bad. As publisher for CoX they also want to be associated with that game's success or failure, which is why they proudly market it on their site. Both those games are way overinstanced IMO so my original premise was a reasonable conclusion. Many gamers don't research beyond what they know or hear about a company based on previous experience only, so this thread helps Aion IMO, if it will have limited instancing.

I hate to break it to you, but every single semi-popular MMO game has bots. WoW, L1, L2, LOTRO, AC, UO, EQ, EQ2, CoX, etc.. they all have bots. Sorry. Aion will most definitely have bots. Especially since NCSoft does nothing about stopping them in their other games (L2 for example). Edit: I forgot FFXI, SWG, RF Online, Guild wars, D&D Online and DAOC. All have bots. (or did at one time) I could careless of the instances they put in. I just hope NC Soft does a good job with this game, Which for sure I know they will.
They'll do a good job. And that's why it's going to have bots. Hell the Asian version probably already does.
"There is as yet insufficient data for a meaningful answer."
Uhm, i wouldnt be so certain dameok, yeah, im sure someone will come up with a packets sender sooner or later, however, from what we know at the moment, it doesn't look like it would be convenient to do so, when most of the time spent will be in a ffa pvp area pve wise, since leveling curve has already been stated as soft, and when dynamic world changes, making it impossible to relax or go afk since mobs may evolve and become stronger, and with such a dynamic combat system, where you can't simply click a 1,2,3 repeat, I doubt bots would end up as the best leveling choice. Will there be bots? Surely, someone always can come with that since making them isnt hard, will it be convenient? I'm doubting so from what I know, I would like to be 100% certain though, but that's well known as impossible right now

Another "Newsflash"? *sign*
Considering how much it cost to develop a game, set up servers, hire additional maintenance programmers, technicians, and GMs, I think a company wouldn't mind having dedicated volunteers to test their product(s). Of course, this would only attract good-for-nothing freeloaders, but, a smart company can make it so each tester should spend 5-10 minutes writing down issues and send a report.
Yes, NCSoft wholly-owns Arenanet as a subsidiary, but, you're still missing the point. Arenanet, who's staff mainly consists of former Blizzard employees that developed WoW, are entirely responsible for the ideas and development of Guild Wars. NCSoft exists only as financial and marketing support and possibly help develop when necessary.
If you seriously want to help Aion, then please stop making NCSoft sound like they're utterly in love with instances and will never let go of it.

I am not an NCSOFT fan boy but this thread is rediculous.
Coming to the conclusion that NCSOFT has heavy instancing is like saying alligators live in alaska, Bagdhad BoB is a reliable new source, and the Rays (MLB) will win the world series this year. Please stop.
Wait wait , the OP thinks because it's NCSoft it = heavily instanced ?
They never heard of Lineage 2 ? Probably the 2nd largest mmorpg worldwide next to WoW and it has far less instancing than most anything post original EQ ?
I am guessing he/she/it is basing his entire opinion on one game or something and didnt bother to actually check his/her/its facts ?
i dont see a pronlem with instance... if its 1 big world you lag hella badly... and if its alot of tiny worlds... um... so
Agreed, i've played MMO's for 5+ years and i dont really think its a bad thing if a game is instanced. I dont see what the problem is, if its instanced, so what, i'd rather have that than one big huge laggy world. It really doesnt make a difference to me, i played TR and it was instanced, it really didnt matter or did it have a negative affect on my gaming experience. The ranting here about instancing is rediculous and unwarranted, move on to some thing else that really matters.

Dream vs Reality, in where features try to make the dreams a bit real.... (just a bit)
Dream: One persistant world, everyone can socialize and such.. and give the feel of a continuos virtual world like in RL.
Reality: There is limits to host such thing, like hardware power limits... It can be easy to host a 32 player FPS match, but one that never ends with 100000 people on it... and hell of a big one.. is kinda tough... not to mention the net bandwidth needed for that.

Dream: you like to go outside and invite people to play with you and do quests be friends, talk or pwn some other players in pvp. (or PK...)
Reality: Some people are big d...ks and dont invite you to do anything.. they just keep moving and forget about you.
-----
Dream: Getting into the big massive world filled with people give you sensation that you are with your peers doing fun stuff... and that helps can come by.. easily.. sometimes it does.. some other times... is other story
Reality: People start competing with each other a lot, and when the group is full you got to wait to do a quest.. that this group is doing becaues they pwn the big boss and you need to wait for respawn. Also you need to kill 15 of X monster but there is a line of 30 people killing the same mob.. you are the warrior and you runing to catch a monter you need to kill.. and then some spell caster shot it from distance and tag it.. you have to wait.
-----
Dream: You do a dungeon in a persistant world.. and you do your story with your friends and such.. hoping that everyone respect your game and say hi to other groups or mix up groups....
Reality: Some people in instances dont care about you and kill your mobs, (BOTS FARMING). driving you mad and sometimes bugging your quests.
-----
Dream: you go pwn mobs and bosses and loot your stuff and get tougher
Reality: Ninja Looter!
-----
Dream: In open world you are fighting a boss and win..
Reality: A bunch of old mobs you already killed, respawn and take you into a free tour into the graveyard.
I know you guys could think on more things that makes persistant world hateful.. for those that like instances.. and others that hate instances will come with a list of reasons to like persistant world or open world....
For me I like something in the middle.. in where you can see some people.. pvp.. and such, something that gives a felling of RL, but at the same time some instancing because too much people at the same time will start too feel like over populated meaning the problems I just said... only 10% of the game is instanced, and it is mostly cutscenes and story arcs. The rest is an all open world, and the Abyss will not be instanced, it will be an open PvP zone.

Follow the WoW ratio for instancing if you want to be successful. If instancing can be cut out even more with design even better.
