How is Ultima Online Crafting?

jasthemityjasthemity Member Posts: 63

Is there a big player base/community? Is the crafting like runescape or wow? is it fun?

Haven't played it, so any information I have is second-hand.

However, from what I've heard it is very similar to Runescape.

It was important for gameplay once.

Got nerfed then and replaced with loot items.

Since then it makes a very slow climb to become sort of useful again.

Crafters have no real place in the game yet though

Yet? It's been out for 10 years and still crafters are useless? Ouch.

There was a time when crafted items were pretty much the best items in game. Crafters were an important part of the community. They could be found at smithy shop to make n repair items for other players. Then the game went all loot based, being more 'diablo' like. So ppl would hunt for what they needed n could usually find better or equal to what was being made n sold for too much money.

Crafting in UO is prolly one of the best I have played in any game. But also crafters no longer matter anymore. The game has pretty much kicked them to the curb in favor of monster loots/uber items.

Whoever said loot replaced it is totally wrong.

I still play UO after 10 years, and yes it's changed, but it still runs the items. Crafting is pretty basic. You can make the same item with whatever type of metal you want. Ex: You can make an iron sword or a copper sword, the stats differ depending on the metal used. To be honest, UO has the best crafting still out of any game besides SWG. There are different types... Blacksmithy, tailoring, tinkering, alchemy, inscription...ect. The only time looted items are worn are the "artifacts" which came in AoS. However, you don't wear 100% artifacts.

They all make different types of items, and use resources gathered manually. Like I said before, almost every item worn by players is man-made, not looted. There are also a unique BOD system that gives rewards for filling NPC craft orders, which reward special tailoring kits and smith hammers which make even better items. As far as stats, magical stats happen randomly, but you can control certain resists and stats by which metal you use. If you want more details, PM me.

crafting used to be super important.. gm smiths were rich// but the game became more item based like WoW so crafted items arent as useful

    Reading comprehension..

Crafting wasn't useless until it got nerfed..

What crafted items are useless!!!!!!  That is 100% wrong.

Ultima has a Bulk order system that requires you to collect bulk orders and fill in, the rewards from these said BoDs are used to create Uber armour, Uber weapons.

Using the top end BoD rewards such as Barbed runic sewing kits and Smithing Hammers (Agapite and above),  create some of the best weapons and armour ingame.

Runic saws and Runic bowcrafting tools can also be obtained from Heartwood crafting quests and these tools are fantastic and extremely usefull, Godly weapons have been obtained from these sorts of tools

With the Mondains legacy update they added a whole load of craftable artie objects.

I sell crafted stuff all the time.  They added peerless ingredients two years ago that allow for a smith, tailor, alchemist, fletcher, carpenter, or tinker to make craftable artifacts.  This along with the Bulk order deed system allows crafters to make large amounts of gold.  Most items that are not artifacts can also be enhanced with properties by a crafter.  The system is not as broken as people say.  Netzoko is right, no one can wear all artifacts, or they will be screwed.  Every suit needs crafted items to work.

I would have to agree that crafters are very important still.  It might be more difficult than before to be a successful crafter but thats only because the crafting system is more complex now, as is the rest of the game.

I never played SWG but UO does have one of the best crafting systems.  In my opinion, UO is still one of the top MMOs out on the market, its just not in the same niche that it used to be, it's conformed
