I won't make a poll because I'll undoubtedly miss some, but post what you think will be the next MMORPG to be cancelled and why. And don't kid yourself, another one will be cancelled! :P
I believe the next MMORPG to be cancelled will be either Matrix Online or Middle Earth online. Movie-based MMORPG's just wouldn't work.
*edit*
Yes, I originally meant in development, but you can post ones that are out as well.
Next released MMORPG to be cancelled: AC2

WoW and EQ2.
lol
i wish. Im so sick of stupid carbon copy crap dominating the industry let people come out with some original ideas. Its incredibily obvious that the mmorpg scene is screaming for change. We need new developers and new ideas desperatly
seriously though yer probably right about matrix online and middle earth online.
The saga of ryzom beta was so crappy i was expecting it to be cancelled but it looks like theyre gonna keep going. So thats a surprise. Maybe Auto Assault too seems a bit too nichey.
ITS A TRAP
----ITS A TRAP!!!----
I'd have to say Dragon Empires. I haven't heard from that game in so long.
And if that doesn't get cancelled.... MEO and MTO will be.
Playing: City of Heroes/ Dark Age of Camelot
Upcoming: EverQuest II
horizons.
if you mean in development though, im going with middle earth online.

Dragon Empires proly wont be cancelled, but I think its success will be very limited. Ive been signed up to beta test that game since the dawn of mankind it seems, and so far just their damn monthly newsletter
As for cancellations in general, now that UXO and Warhammer are off the menu, I think the other mmrpgs can breathe just a bit better as they once again have a chance at a bigger share of the pie. Proper advertising and enough distinguishing features to set them appart from EQ2 and WoW will be critical to their success.

are there any solid signs these 2 will be canceled, dont think so, MEO has big pool of fans, and if they don't drag out development and break all expectations on beta/release time frame it should have chance. Imo MatrixO has cool graphics.. yeah i just saw their latest trailer, isn't it pretty visually stunning ?
Me also was surprised at Nevrax persistence with their half-finished it seems, SoR going back int oclosed beta before release... but again game isn't so bad, nice graphics, but few new conceptual things in it, may be they ll survive also.
I have to go with Wish as well. Not sure why, but it just feels like the next one to go down. Of course, you never can tell these days without some inside info.
On the table? I'd bet AC2 or WW2 Online. A good darkhorse would be The Sims.
In development and high profile? Who knows, a lot of it has to do with so many external factors like publishers or mergers that every game is a crap shoot till it goes gold. My best educated guess would be The Matrix since it's had some publisher jumping.
Now smaller games like Atriarch or Jumpgate could be cancelled at any moment. Hell, they could be toast right now for all I know.

I really hope Dragon Empires doesn't get the chop....but it has been in development for a very very long time now and risks becoming outdated before it even gets to beta 1.0 ....which BTW they have been saying is close now...I hope I love the concept, hope they can pull it off.
I would have to say ones that are likely to get the chop are:
All the movie based MMO's...as an example, SWG has suffered greatly from the "restrictions" of having to keep it "real" in terms of the SW universe. That kind of thing makes publishers/producers nervous.
WISH
Atriarch
Bigworld/Citizen Zero
Proberbly a few others too.
I think the publishers are starting to wake up to the fact that dumbing down MMO's to make them more appealing to a wider audience usually makes them either crap and/or un-appealing to the "hard-core" fans. The same fans that actually drive the community early on in the development. And it's a solid following/community that keeps the funding coming long enough to actually fully develop an MMO.
It's sorta getting to be a catch 22 for the whole MMO industry IMHO, thats going to prevent dev's from making new and "fresh" MMO's in the future.
I guess the positive side to this is, that they also know, that "IF" they can develop the next "EQ" (popularity wise) they have a very long term major cash cow on their hands.
Peace

There are tons of games that die everyday. I think the next "well known" game will probably be WiSH. Not wishing WiSH any harm or saying anything negative but I just think it has the most mojo if you will to fail. 1) They hired Themis, that in of itself is enough to make me lose any confidence that they could even manage their own project or have any sort of ideals etc etc etc. There was some other things that woudlnt work either I think but I did think their idea about their skill system was pretty good with some refining. Anyways im in no position to argue about WiSH but if I had to guess they would be my vote. Or Saga of Ryzom.
Like I said
Success/Greatness of MMOG
= 10% Graphics/Musics
+ 20% Gameplay/Technology
+ 70% Human Factor (Such as hardcoreness of players, community, play style, hype, emotion, culture, national identity, etc)
--------------------------------
It's like soccer game, skill of each players doesn't necessarily guarantee the win, its the interaction of each players, the collective, the level of fan zeal, the town where it's played, etc.
That which does not kill you only makes you stronger.

So all the Blizzard Fanboys would STFU and go back where they belong which are NON-MMORPG (Which Blizzard has no Clue about or EXP)....Next..

With turbine focusing on AC1 and MEO, I think AC2 will bite the dust within the next 6-12 months. Its population has dwindled to Earth & Beyond levels, so I dont think it will be worth it for turbine to continue hosting and developing for that game.
Laneo, WoW will not be cancelled. It would require an act of god to cancel one of the most desired games in recent memory. Thats like Doom 3 or HL2 running the risk of being cancelled, I think not. If you dont like WoW, thats fine, but dont post such stupid remarks.

Good point, but these games don't have the same hype-factor. That and TMO is doing something different, which usually ends up equalling "cancelled". MEO, haven't really heard much about it. Even if both games suceed, they'll probably rely on the lisence to get people to play, which i hope most of us are beyond. I'm still amazed at how many people are playing SWG, i played through the trial and had no desire to play anymore.
--------------------------------------
--------------------------------------
SWG was a very good game, with many worlds to visit and tons of places to explore. But it wasnt very noob friendly, as such anyone playing only the trial wouldnt get to enjoy the game very much. However it was well worth spending the time to learn all the game mechanics, as there is so much to do and see.
