Ive said it b4 and ill say it over and over again. Every major MMO released EVER has released at 1 of 2 times: just b4 xmas, or right at the end of the schoolyear. WAR will be no different. It will either release late May/earny June, which would still be considered Q2 or it will be pushed back to Xmas. Despite what everyone here thinks there is no consiracy here. Its simple marketing. The most people buy games at these 2 times of the year and since WAR depends on continued revenue like other PTP mmos, it needs people to buy the game immediately after release in order to sustain the game and recoup the extrodinary expenses they have obviously incurred marketting and testing this game. These are the FACTS. My opinion, is that this game WILL make the Q2 release. I have studied advertisement and marketing my whole life, and all the marketing/testing/ advertising ploys ive seen serve as my indicators for this opinion.
It depends on what your definition of "major" is but not all MMO's have released when you claim they do. Often, a game is released because its been in development for so long that the company wants to start recouping costs, like Vanguard. Then we have unexpected delays that cause it to be released after holiday periods, like Burning Crusade was.
Is a man not entitled to the herp of his derp?
Remember, I live in a world where juggalos and yugioh players are real things.
Apparantly WAR was missed from EA's release schedule however GOA say its still on track! Also Eurogamer will have a hands on in a few weeks on it sMMO channel
- the game is still in beta - they have not brought the crafting out yet nor have they had a proper pairing of the elfs (one class still to be released in high elfs), after that they'd need to test the whole realm Vs. Realm with all the armies fighting. Then fully test the whole games systems. then when they are happy do start burning the CDs and ship them out. I know they can do this right now and patch the remaining but would they tax out their servers with massive downloads?
Plus they need to send the games and displays out to the stores and such or maybe you can forget all my guessing and go here:

Just a question, have amazon and ebgames ever been right about the release date? Really wonder where do they get such a date since there's not even an official word.
But for me, i believe they will release before the rest of the games, AoC, WOTLK etc.
So that more players will be playing their games rather than releasing late and risk players going to other games and may never come back.....
I totally agree that which ever of the top games for 2008 release first will get huge numbers right off the bat. If the game turns out to be a good or great game, that game will retain most of the inital rush of players. I was honestly surprised that AoC delayed their launch date in March. They must of had some serious concerns about it.
War will be relased when they feel that it is ready, and AoC will released when they feel that it is ready. But, both companies have to be thinking about getting a good game out first over the other. There is such a huge amount of people wanting something different that they would be off their rocker if they didnt want to tap that market.

I would like to know where the dates come from as well.
When I worked for Chips and Bits back in 1991. People would call and ask about games all the time. Wizardry 7 (maybe it was 8) and falcon 3.0 are the ones I remember the most.
The owner would call up his distributor and get a date. Which always changed just like with EB. I'm not sure if any marketing people slip these out.. or if they just randomly make up a date and change it was needed.
Basicly the reason we ever listed a "pre-release" game. Was so that people would do pre-orders...
Why isn't this thread dead yet. it has been said it is still on track for CY Q2 release, that is 4/1-6/31. I am betting on a release date around 5/25. Being of summer for students.
The games aren't extremely simialr, and appeal to different demographics. The M rating may end up hurting AoC in the long run as well.

This WARHAMMER Online game i believe is quite appealing to alot of players. Especially those that is tired of WoW and yet still love fantasy gene.

I am sure they get their numbers from Mythic. I doubt 2 companies would create the same magic date. Especially since they are taking pre-orders now.
June 10th 2008 is the day Mythic is shooting for

According to Game stop War is still scheduled for a june 10th release!
lets hope for no more delays!
Played : WOW, LOTRO, COH/COV, EQ2, SWG, and WAR.
Playing EVE Online and AOC.
Wtg for SW:TOR and WOD
Guessing that means April for closed beta, mid-may for the rest 500,000 of us in open beta
FUNCOM - putting the FUN in disFUNctional !
I'm guessing there will definitely be a roadblock on the game release. Nothing big, but I'm thinking it will be fine tuning and/or stress tests.
