Big Cash Shop?

mike470mike470 General CorrespondentMember Posts: 2,396

I really want to try out this game..  I have lookee edat all the information I can find and evrything, but there is one thing i am uncertain of.

Does this game revolve around the cash shop?  If I do not use the cash shop, will I have a huge disadvantage over the other players?

Thanks

The game does revolve around cash shop in a way. And if you don't use it there can be a problem with your character. Here's an example:

Everyone 3 months (real time) your character will reach age 25 (if you start from age 10, which you should) Once you reach age 25, your character will no longer gain AP for skills. You are still allowed to gain levels, but your skills will suffer. With the use of cash shop, you can "re-birth" your character, back to level 10, and start over again, only you still have all your skills and equipment.

This may seem weird at first, but if you compare this to a P2P game, it is a lot cheaper. The re-birth will cost 5-8$. Thats only 20-32$ per year to play the game. Another P2P game will cost you 100-150$ per year o_o.

Also, the other major thing inside of the cash-shop are character cards. You are given one free character card, but after that, if you want to make more characters, you need to buy a new card. A regular card only costs about 1-2$. But a premium card will give you more appearance options, and costs about 2$ more.

Anyways, hope that helps, and hope to see you in pre-OB tommorow!

Correct me if I'm wrong.  But I think after age 25 you can still gain levels, and with each level-up you can still receive AP for skills.  It's just a much more grindy process after age 25 without rebirth.

And with each rebirth you gain more skill AP's and much faster both from aging process and quick leveling.  Rebirth costs one character card each time, which is why you must use cash shop in this game if you plan to play seriously and grind-free.  Hence I always see Mabinogi as an inexpensive p2p game with a free character card, but in a more flexible way since you can choose how often to rebirth your toons.

Whether Nexon will allow players to trade in-game-gold for cash shop credits is another matter.  I heard some foreign versions allowed this.  And then there's the story campaign (which is quite good btw), whether that is accessible to all or just to ppl with premium accounts is still not known to us.

Cash shops suck but this one doesn't seem too bad actually.  The only real necessity is for rebirth cards and in the long run it is cheaper than sub games.  Of course there are other things you can buy but I have the impression that most are unnecessary, like new hairstyles and such.

Agreed, this is much better than games that you need to buy from the cash shop to play.  This would be much cheaper than a monthly subscription too
