Got a Mac? Well not many computer owners use a mac, and the main reason why is that everytime you have to upgrade you just toss out your olde machine. Also Computers are a tool used for more then just gaming so upgrading it to keep it up to date is not considered as big a frivolous expense. Ontop of it the PC Community has already shown they will upgrade to continue playing a game with steeper requirements. For Example. Everquest Original system requirements
Pentium 166+ 32MB Ram Direct3D or Glide compliant accelerator card w/ 4MB Ram 500 MB Hard Drive Space 28.8k + internet connection Windows Compatible Sound Card Windows Compatible Mouse 6x CD-Rom Drive
Can people still play EQ with this computer with no additional expansions? Not really, but considering EQs numbers over-time they are OK with the minimum increasing. However, there are people who rarely upgrade thier computer, and they usually play consoles. Do you really think this type of person will upgrade to a new console when its readily available to continue playing a game?
You ask an homest question Cleff, and I will give an honest answer.
Yes, I do.
Console gamers are probably even more 'focused' on having the latest model then the majority of PC gamers are...
When was the last time someone got shot in a queue at 2am for the latest graphics card?
Violation is 100% right when he says that the role of the console is changing and that many people now use them as full on media players. Hell, I use my 360 as an extender for Media Center in my front room... it runs as a back up DVD player, as well as accessing all the music and whatever on my living room media PC when I have people over to tabletop game or have a meal, the same way as my gaming machine can upstairs. The reason I say this is just to make the point that consoles are becoming integral entertainment hubs these days and less of the frivolous gimmicks you obviously see them as.
