Its really obvious that some people havent got a clue how the game works. In order to pull off some of the moves shown in the mounts part of the presentation (because thats what it was a presentation) like the decapatations, the player has to be at a certain disposition to pull that fatality off. It is easy to show for presentation purposes either a static NPC or Dummy ( A dummy is just that look up the meaning) It was easier because the combat is real time and not auto attack to show some of the moves off using dummies. Oh Warhammer Online uses TEST DUMMIES!! http://war.warcry.com/forums/read/141.54203 this is something NOT NEW in mmo land for DEMO'S BTW you do realise you can attack from the mount? this is in realtime too! seen that before in an mmorpg? whats the point of having a human player stand behind a horse to get kicked, just the same as a test dummy. Whats the point of having a test dummy to perform a fatality on? what the difference for demo purposes that having this or a human ? Fucking None... oh thats right it takes time for a human player with no GM buffs or codes to attain the level to perform a fatality. When the real hands on Player Vs Player videos come showing dozens of fluidly smooth humans playing - remember to come back and apologise. So sorry AoC mounts look sweet, let you attack from either side and that you just don't like that fact. Btw ever watched tv when they are showing footage from a monitor? you notice the banding there? hmm wonder what that could be.
You seem to think im bashing the entire game...im not read my first post in the thread. Im simply saying I dont understand why in the G4 demo I didnt see anyhing as amazing as the game was promised to be. But then again its just a demo ok? Dont burst a blood vessel no big deal..
Oh btw and on the attacking from mounts comment of yours...The korean, f2p game Metin2 has attacking from mounts, its nothing new.

Mounts attacking in real time is new, Metin2 doesnt have that.
Actually this was a segment of the whole 30 min presentation it wasn't just mounts there was city building and a dungeon shown off too.
people have to understand that AoC doesnt claim every part of its design is groundbreaking it maintains that it improves on and adds to the regular formula.
This video unfortunately confirmed my fears for the game. It's gonna run like crap in a major encounter and the animations suck. Look at how those soldiers got knocked down the same way everytime, and got up all at exactly the same time, getting up the samw way everytime. It just looked plain goofy.

G4 really does a crappy job with MMOGs. They treat them like the bastard stepchild. MMOGs need their own show.
What was shocking is when Morgan asked how long it would take to qualify for a mount, and the Funcom rep said at level 40 you can get one and it would take a couple days only to reach level 40. It sounds like AoC will be pathetically simple. Only 2 days to reach level 40?
I was starting to be alittle worried about AoC since i had been waiting for this game for quite some time but this preview looked really down right awesome in my book, the rants about the dummies and such is nonesense, it's normal for devs to use dummies, who prolly only have one death animation ect.
The mount fighting might look awkward at some points but i only found it at the larger ones, who logicaly were huge and thus most likely would move that "odd" IRL very well. But come on people for the moment this is the best mount combat you could find anywhere.....
they have created something quite good out of something as simple as "mounts", the backkick from the horse was actually something i didn't expect to see, so i'm very pleased with the mount combat demostration.
some more months and AoC is hopefully as ready as a mmorpg can be before a launch.
Been watching the game for over 3 years now , been signed up to the beta for as long, been an avid supporter of where the game is marketed for and the content explicitness of it. None of that changes the poor showcase on G4tv, which has millions of views watching it .... Laggy game play. No mounting animation, dummy models, horse that skated on the screen, jerky mount movement and a representative who you could barely understand. It was a complete train wreck.
Your way off....there is mounting animations go watch the whole thing... They did say in the video that the guys they were attacking were spawned as fodder for the demo..so yes no AI..duh...
I saw no Skating on horseback what so ever...
The only complaint I might make is the timing of the hits on mobs from your mount..but that may be just the guy playing who knows...

Lest you forgot its still in Beta and has 3 months to launch.

It was on my TV , on the TV show Xplay with there GDC covervage broadcasted on G4TV. The TV show was on my TELEVISION , my TV doesn't Lag.
