Lets see for the 658,789 time yes that is all we wanted if you work for soe tell them to just start the server and stop being the bigges D*&( ) in the mmo universe
I co-founded one of the largest and most successful multi-gaming guilds in N America. I have access to at least 12 different MMOs at the moment, which I could pick up and play at any time, for free. And out of all the games I've beta tested in the last two years, wanna take a stab at how many of them I've actually bought and played? Or how many I've even logged on to in the last 6 months just for "kicks"?

If they opened up a PreCU server, I'd more than likely go and play for the hell of it. Nothing has come close to it since. And when another game finally comes along that emulates in, I'll definitely be there.
My simple question is this... For everyone who says the "window has passed" or that they wouldn't come back period. What game are you playing that is skill based, player economy and doesn't revolve around exotic raiding loot? Because the only way the window will *close* for me... is when I see that game. So where are you all hiding? Not trying to be offensive. Just all I keep seeing is Level/uber loot... raid grinding crap. Sure I can take a bit of playing my Fury in EQ2 but my guild about has to pay me to activate and raid... The few skill based MMO's I've seen coming up.. well I try to have faith.. but small.. underfunded companies in todays market.. my realist mind says.. don't get my hopes up. Then again.. its why I don't see a pre-cu server happening regardless.
Hiya Antarious. Your question doesn't sound offensive to me at all. I'm enjoying myself in City of Heroes atm.
I like it for a lot of reasons, some of them relate to my swg experience, but others don't.
I like the character customization with all of the different powers and powersets available. I also like the different costume options and choices regarding how you "slot" your powers with enhancements. These are basically like accuracy and damage modifiers and what not.
I also like it for the economy they put in a few issues ago. That system combined looting with crafting and selling. Different mobs drop recipes or ingredients. You combine them in your "batcave" so to speak and create power enhancements. If you want you can then use the enhancements or put them up for bid at the auction house. You can also just sell the recipes and ingredients (salvage) if you're not into the crafting thing. I am though, it's fun and I like to do it for some down time.
I also like it for the team combat dynamics. The superhero archtypes complement each other well. Nice combinations of crowd control powers, buffing powers, healing powers and attacks are available.
Also, some archtypes are suited more for team play, while others are suitable for going solo. The options are nice, and the game balances this well.
I've also built some nice pvp toons for the pvp zones against villains who play City of Villains. There are shared zones where you can go head to head. My favourite of these has villains and heroes fighting for control of pillboxes and their armaments.
Since issue 9 there has also been more variety made available in terms of mission types and settings available. That was a welcome shift, in that early issues had mission types that began to feel repetative.
Another thing I like about the game is that I think I've encountered 4 bugs in the last 2 years. The game works very well. When I had those troubles, customer service was very helpful. We blew an npc into a wall once with a knockback power, and it got stuck for example. A CSR had the thing freed up in about 10 minutes; I was pleasantly surprised after playing SWG.
So I guess when I compare that to SWG of old, I like the economy, the customization of characters, the strategic combat, and the excellent animations. I have a katana regeneration scrapper that reminds me a lot of my TKM/Master Doc also. That's fun. Also you can get power sets that allow you to have pets. Different arctypes obtain and control pets differently. Perhaps the best "pet" option is actually playing the villain mastermind archtype. You get controls for each "pet" (robots, soldiers or thugs generally) and can upgrade their equipment. On heroes, I have a pet option that extracts the life force from villains and turns it into a force for good lol, that's kinda fun.
The missions I would say are done better than SWG, and the game as whole is much more polished and functional than SWG ever was.
It does have levels though, so if you hate levels, you probably wouldn't like this. I don't mind though, as long as it's done well. The levels correspond to which superpowers are available to you, and to which zones you can access. Lower and higher level heroes can still team-up though apart from specific pvp or hazard zones via their sidekick system, which I rather like.
So that's where I'm hanging out, with a lot of my guild-mates from old-school SWG ^_^.
I hear from other vets that EVE has a neat skill system and sandbox type of feel if that's what you're looking for. I also tried WoW, and was amazed at all the things you can do in it. I'm just not a myth and magic type gamer though, so it really wasn't for me. I can see why people enjoy it though.
we all talk a lot of crap but i bet the server would explode from 200k trying to log on at once...
QFT. Hell, I didn't even play it THEN and I know I'd totally be there on launch day.
I agree... People talk alot of crap, and it is exactly what would happens.... People would not say it, but would subscribe anyways... On their knees, crying of joy. The popularity of this forum is a good indication.
....but you had to start totally from scratch... Would you come back, or would you stomp your feet and crybecause you had to start over?
What if they did this, but reverted to the original Jedi unlocking system (i.e. you basically have to grind through all the professions and you'd have permadeath)

It will never happen so get over it, The NGE is that bad any more.
Ajax
I think you may be wanting to say The NGE "isn't" that bad any more -_^.
No.
Put it this way there would be more there playing than on all of the NGE servers combined no ifs ands or buts about it.
