With the Monk coming out in around April(?), I wanted to ask a question about this new class. What is the role of the Monk? DPS? Tank? A mix? I had a Monk a long time ago in NWN1 and I liked him okay. I just wanted to know where the Monk will likely fit into DDO.

I don't even remember what the monks did back when I played AD&D... none of my players wanted one, and I had no need for monk NPC's in my campaign.
So, I'm only familiar with the GW Monk (heals/protection mostly) and the Vanguard Monk (melee DPS).
then what is the point for posting this? The monk is a straight up DD and, IMHO, can be overpowered. The reason behind them being brought up into the computer game I can only see as being done to try to make all the classes available. There really is no "need" for this class in the game; they are not necessary.
You should be able to build a Monk for either role or a combined Tank/DPS role, it should also be possible to build one along a tactical fighter line, ie. Tripping, Stunning Blow ect...
Monks are Damage...they are also good defence as well.
I also think they make good Mulitclass too. But as there are no druids in the game (there best mulit) I dont see this as much.
Conservatism.
Just old white men trying to find ways to legalize discrimination, and make the poor poorer
I cannot wait for a Warforged Druid to replace my Warforged Clerc, I really wish they had implimented Druids 1st....
Monks are generally a bit of a hybrid. Solid defense, solid offense. They CAN be great at defense but then hit like a wet noodle, or CAN be very good at offense but then get hit by most everything. Monks are mainly about mobility and being survivors, which doesn't often have as much place in a game as one might want.
My favorite monk was a large race and then had psionic powers to make himself even bigger. He literally wrestled dragons. And, indeed, "Dragon Wrestler" was his nickname. He had size, he had strength, and he had an AC around 14.
Unless they change things up, I don't think monks will fit all that well into DDO unless someone plays it like a ranger with shot-on-the-run or something.
In PNP monks abilities were set up to be wizard/cleric killers. I'm not sure that this will translate well to DDO though.
