The upcoming MMORPGs

Hi all, I'm new to these boards but I was just hoping to find out what the upcoming RPGs scene is going to be, is Aion from NCSoft going to be big?  Is WOW going to continue domination?  Is there something else?  Any info is much appreciated.

Xander.

Warhammer, Age of Conan, AION, Chronicles of Spellborn are the big players on the immediate horizon. (this year).

A bit further out, (next year probably) there's Guild Wars 2, Stargate Worlds and maybe some longshots like Fallen Earth and Darkfall.

Lots of other games in the hopper, such as Earthrise which should also provide something different.

Oh yeah, and WOW should release an expansion this year, Wrath of the Frozen Dead guy, or something like that.

Ah, very helpful, thankyou Kyleran!  Is there any way to know what will be popular?  Obviously Warhammer is Warhammer and AoC looks amazing, but don't people generally look forward to the new games and then realise they aren't so amazing and stick to what they know?

yes, many people will stick with WoW, because the don't want to give up all their level 70s and phat loot.  Its very sad.

And Darkfall, now scheduled for release after the death of the universe.

Until another big company pumps tons of money into marketing for its game, wow will "dominate" the market. EA (Warhammer) would have the money needed to bring out a game correctly. Marketing is all, wow proved it.

Yes. So expect the WOW expansion to be extremely popular.

There is a huge possibility the new mmodomination to be from the nes Blizzard`s MMO, probably Diablo (not sure)

I suppose AoC, WAR, Aion and the other upcoming games will steal some subscribers from WoW but I doubt we will see any major differences in WoW subscribers. WoW got a fanbase that's not very active in the MMORPG universe and thus they will not even bother to try out games that doesn't advertise themselves massively. I believe a continued WoW domination is to be expected.

I agree, WoW's fanbase is so big and diverse that I wouldn't even classify them as part of the mmorpg community simple because they are interested in world of warcraft and only world of warcraft.  Of course there a slim few who are interested in other mmorpgs, but the vast majority will only fit with WoW.

WoW is the new Star Wars of our Era. Not SWG but the actual Star Wars franchise. I don't think the following will die anytime soon. Blizzard did it right and no matter how much you hate them, they are the one swimming in cash and able to spend important amounts into marketing.
