Beta PvP servers go up 3 months from launch

AmazingAveryAmazingAvery Age of Conan AdvocateMember UncommonPosts: 7,188

From Athelan's blog here on mmorpg.com:

And the other thing I wanted to share with you guys if you did not already know is we recently wiped the General Beta and put up our first PvP server for testing. The ruleset right now is very simple only limiting PvP so it cannot be done inside Tortage or in the main NPC cities like Khemi and Tarantia.

Sounds like things are coming together nicely.

3 months in theory should be enough time for all the balancing and feedback issues that will arise.

From observing other betas and how other developers impliment major game features, 3 months is probably the bare minimum for a decent polish. Turbine gave Monster Play 5 months and it turned out alright. Funcom needs to get the other major game features in beta like siege warfare.

    Doesn't matter to me

If the player bases are intigrated with console people

I won't be playing this steaming pile of goat $h%T

what if they weren't integrated like around 10 months after launch when I reckon the 360 version will be out?

Turbine also stress tested 2 months from launch. I didn't really like the MP but regardless, maybe Funcom can finally get the feedback for types of player looting now from the testers.

3 months is enough time...It's not like they have never tested the PVP it's just time now for all beta testers to go at it on a larger scale. Should be fine, nothing to worry about...

AmazingAvery, I know we only have what the devs have stated as facts, but I honestly believe that the XBox360 version of AoC will release within 30 days of AoC's release (90 days tops).  They can say all they want that coding for the XBox360 won't start until the game launches.  This is another glaring example of Funcom not being honest with the community.  Remember, you have XBox360 magazine saying that AoC will be out by the end of summer.  Are they going by old news or do they know more than we do?  Who knows.  Saying that, M$ will get their AoC this year, rest assured.

Fear not fanbois, we are not trolls, let's take off your tin foil hat and learn what VAPORWARE is:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vaporware

"Vaporware is a term used to describe a software or hardware product that is announced by a developer well in advance of release, but which then fails to emerge after having well exceeded the period of development time that was initially claimed or would normally be expected for the development cycle of a similar product."

Dude i don't know where you got your info, but i pray your right lol, i really do.

First of, they can make em' console players only playing w/ each other so don't bash me from that side if your going to respond.

I have really mixed feelings on this issue...

    1) it's not just one person saying that funcom is being sneaky about there intend on the 360, there's been numerous threads and interview post and more.

    2) funcom developers may not be only in it for the money, but the big guys are. what if they know it will make a ton of money in purchase and subscribtion on the 360.

    3) How hard could it be to transfer the game to the 360. What if it's really only about working with a controller scheme and getting xbox live down. Money is def. not an issue, microsoft only wants to make money and if this game will, then they will spend lots to get it out there.

Lastly i don't truely believe that the 360 is the main focus and there first just getting out a pc version to somewhat beta test until the 360 release. Just saying that i have heard this way more then once now, and we all now for a fact that a 360 version has been stated to come out after for the past 2 years. What if they know a lot more about how to transfer systems then they say; what if they already have a pretty good controller scheme planned out.

I don't believe the 60 or even 90 days after thing. But if would only take...say 4 or 5 months, they would never admit that because it would hurt the sales to much for the pc and Nvidia and all that. Just wondering.

I personally wish they would just scrap the whole xbox 360 version and just focus on the version that is worth playing. I dont want funcom getting distracted to please all those soft gamers playing on consoles when the true gamers on PC are going nuts for a game of this potential. I would just like to see them focus on a single amazing PC game and not having to scrap things because the weakbox 360 version wont support it.

A couple of weeks ago an update on the game's state was released in which it was mentioned that they had not tested pvp at all outside of their own internal test team. They hadent even put the border kingdom region in their beta client.

Call me a doomsayer if u want, but in a game with so many features around pvp 3 months dont sound even close to enough to me. I hope they manage to deliver on 20 may, but i think its highly improbable

AoC was built from the ground up to be the premier 360 MMO.   Don't kid yourselves guys.   The reason it is launching on the PC first is simple.   PC's are the native platform for an MMO and this lowers the risk factor of launching game.  It's all about the $$.  If they failed to catch the 360 Market, and AoC was ONLY on the 360...

Too much risk.  Oh and PC and 360 players will be on the same server, you can count on it.

Now on to the pvp beta 3 months out...

I do hope they have a good plan in place in case some major flaw rears it's ugly hear.  90 days seems like a long time... but it's not.

    Always change your signature.

They have been testing PvP for 18 months at least now.

Yes its all in there internal version, FC have a strike team of testers in Oslo, mixing it up there are some 200-300 people who have been testing each week. All thats needed now is the polish.

Funcoms Beta ways are different to other companies, some people just can't grasp this.

That have all the elements made for a siege and have had them made for a long time.

As for the constant whinge about the 360 version, lets not kid ourselves - for over 2 yrs they have always said that it will come out on the 360 some time after the PC version. In one latest interview it was said that they will move people over to the 360 version after the PC's release then its going to take a while before it comes out. Lets not kid ourselves its a PC GAME made for the PC and will at somepoint release on the 360, its an obvious choice for a console mmorpg because that is where the money is at.

I believe that INTERNAL Testing is more telling then BETA testing in MOST cases, for the SOLE purpose of balancing.   3 Months of BETA PvP testing SHOULD be plenty, if they've been doing things right up until now.   Funcom has made it easier on their guys by separating PvP and PvE damage.  This will make balancing  an incredible amount easier to balance.

Anyone here play WOW?  How many people cried, and complained when their class got nerfed, and swore that ever other class was better.   EVERYONE things theres problems with their class when they SUCK at PvP.

I'm curious as to why you believe that if the console people are playing on the same servers with the pc people will make the game suck ? The only difference will be the method in which the player inputs his commands.

Yeah, whats your issue? You ascared of the kiddies? Maybe he thinks console=kiddies... who knows?

I for one will be there will bells on to kick the shit outta the 360 gamers. They should make them have tags above their heads so I can identify them as such before straight lopping their shit off.

How would xbox 360 players tell Chuck Norris jokes in general chat with no keyboard btw? :P

The core game is there, these 3 months are balancing from an OPEN PvP world perspective.

    New server different rules.

Some of the issues raised in this thread.. I guess I just miss the point.

PvP testing is really only needed to test balance.. and a few elements that aren't in normal game play.

Which is why you spend so much time on the "core systems".

Now if the game was still coming in March I guess I'd see the point.

    And the xbox comment?

Other than the grind FFXI was one of the best done MMO's I have ever played.  Far as I know I was playing with people that were on PS2's... and they later added 360 support.

So I guess that comment baffles me as well.

If it was supposed to be an age comment... LOL.  With all the MMO's I've played there seems to be plenty of "children" in any PvP game.. regardless of their physical age.

How about we leg the game get released.. and then talk about how much it sucks then.  So we can at least compare notes that don't violate the NDA.

Or at least wait until the NDA is lifted I guess.

The Xbox comment is from a troll, looking to stir it up. Pops over every other month and tries the same thing, tries to game attack from different angles.

Im going to be really happy to speak about the game at launch from a comparsion stand point to right now  in time.

I agree with the FFXI comment, I played it and thought it was well done too.

I havn't seen the developers state once that the PC version has had things taken out so the 360 version will run better. And i definitly don't see that happening in the next 3 months. I mean there just polishing it now, so i don't see how anyone can use the dumbed down angle anymore. If they did do that they would have done it a LONG time ago, and then the game everyone here loves is it w/ or w/out things taken out.

And just so you know, there not working on a 360 version right now, it is of course PC first and for most.

I don't know where you got your thoughts from.

Yes, the XBox360 version is being worked on right now.  They have repeatedly said they will be moving MORE people over the XBox 360 version when the PC game launches.  You can't move MORE people over if you don't have ANY there now.  Like it or not, the M$ XBox 360 version of the game is being worked on.

Elitism, its funny, PC gamers smarter than console gamers? Not really, I have a gaming rig, a gaming laptop, and an xbox 360. Recently I got back into ffxi using the 360 as opposed to the PC. I purchased one of those qwerty keypads, attached it to my controller and off I went.

Im actually enjoying myself quite a bit, its still the same game as when i played it on the PC, However theres something to be said about reclining in your lazy boy and playing an mmo on a 42 inch LCD.

Now Im not going to sit here and rattle off the almost embarassing number of MMOs ive played over the years, but I will say, I dont feel any dumber for enjoying an MMO on a console, so Im going to assume this particular bias is nothing more than good old fashioned PC elitism.

Who cares what the medium is, whether yo are using a $5K PC or a used 360 from the pawnshop down the street. Its completely insane to ridicule someones intellectual acumen based on their choice of medium.

If it brings more players to your game, thats what counts, more people to group with, more people to socialize with, and yes, more people to kill!

Who cares about people playing on the 360 and on PC.  The only thing that means to me is that my friends on the 360 are going to have a hard time communicating with the rest of us on vent.
