And the WoW killer will be ….

LEGO Universe

Most impressive in this quest is LEGO's plan to integrate fabrication of objects directly into the title.

Any structure or vehicle you may construct out of the MMOs virtual blocks, you can also export to LEGO who will allow you to purchase traditional LEGO sets that are exact replicas of what you've created in-game.

For millions of year, mankind has lived just like the animals. Then something happened, that unleashed the power of our imagination. We learned to speak, we learned to listen, and we learned to play with Legos.

    Legos FTW!

If I can make my own buildings and vehicles and battle other people, I’m so playing this game.  If it is all peace and love and no combat I may still check it out.

hmmm.... somehow with this thread i got this strange feeling that Blizzard has gotten license to make a certain mmorpg from a popular universe.

I mean with WoW, i'm 100% certain that license holders would wanna bet their money on blizzard making their flagship into the mmo world and since Blizzard said their upcoming mmorpg project isn't one of their own universe platforms (no starcraft or diablo) it might very well be this certain project hydra.

as it might be a long pass i'm doing here, so bear with me on this one but i think the hydra is a meta around a possible trilogi or more, since hydras in myths were known to have even more than 3 heads.

It's just a wild guess but i just think any company with a business plan about "succes", would wanna include blizzard into it if it had to be in the mmo world.  Some hardcore fans would be angry but then again many hardcore fans insulted the LOTR movies and for all the other's taste those were a hit.

Always easier to please someone who doesn't go into details on certain completely useless themes eg. "omg i saw a XY bird fly on the sky, they never said those existed in that universe!!!". Enjoying a movie is easier for those who didn't expect the biggest of things, a letdown is often created through expectations so high it's beyond common sense.

Anyways.... if Blizzard had gotten the hands on star wars IP i would be surprised or any other old, yet popular, classic.

For me, Earthrise, or WOW II or Diablo MMO

  • UnstoppableUnstoppable Member Posts: 37

Where did you hear that their next gen mmo is not one of their franchises? Last I heard it isn't a WoW Expansion.

I think it's going to be Diablo and here's why. A composer on IGN in 05-06 said he's working on Diablo 3 music. Also Diablo 3 wouldn't take as long as it's taking unless it's going to be an MMO.

Don't forget Vivendi said that all of Blizzard's franchises will eventually become MMO's. So my money is on Diablo Online ;).

As for killing WoW that won't happen but it can be crippled. How? It's pvp population will jump to Age of Conan, Warhammer Online, Darkfall Online.

Those looking for something new will go to Champions Online, APB, and The Agency.

I agree with you unstop however you do realize that it took about 5 years to make diablo 2 lol?

Actually what Vivendi said is that they would like all of Blizzard's franchises to eventually become MMO's.  Of course they would, more MMO's mean more money for Vivendi.  But now that Blizzard has split with Vivendi and is partnered with Activision, they really don't have any say in the matter.

The rumors that it's NOT based on a current Blizzard IP are sketchy at best, but it's definately a possibility.  I'd say the odds that it's a completely new IP are about on par with the odds that it will be one of their existing IP's, which basically means that at this point no one really knows other than Blizzard and they aren't talking just yet.  It's all hear say and inuendo.

And for those people who like to mention the code name Hydra and somehow infer that has some meaning, you do realize why they use code words in the first place, right?  It's so that they don't give away any information.  I'd say the fact they chose the name Hydra has about as much significance as if they would have chosen Tom for the code name.

They did not split with Vivendi, instead Vivendi and Activision have merged, with the operations under the management team of Activision. In fact, Vivendi not long after announcing the merge, took a several billion dollar loan to finance future development, and pay for some of the merge.

Vivendi is not out of the equation, just the day to day operations.

If it wasn't for the fact that the graphics in Lego Star Wars always annoyed me to hell and I suppose the same graphics will be seen here I would be anticipated as hell. It would be fun if LEGO Universe turns out be a huge hit.

Vivendi bought controlling interest in Activision and is merging Blizzard with it.  Activision is essentially a sub-corporation of Vivendi.  That doesn't mean they can't sell off their interest after the merger, but as long as Blizzard is affecting Vivendi's bottom line like it is, that sure isn't going to happen.

I think the next WoW killer will be either Spore or Starcraft online.  Blizzards next MMO will not be Diablo online, they will not make another fantasy mmo for their next one.

If done well another WoW killer may be APB or W.E.L.L.

WoW will die off when the kids who play 20 hours a day realize that working at mcdonalds is equally rewarding.  Then they will get jobs at fast food establishments where they can "log in" every day and get phtat loot every other work for doing their daily quests.

If any MMO beats WoW in the next few years...

It will be BioWare MMO.  Story is cool...but...I hope they just don't lose the fact they build a game, not a story.

Or a Forgotten Realms setting; if done right.
