As I am a contributor on a militia website I really don't care much about being monitored as I was aware that would happen when I got involved.  I do hate the scare tacitics the CIA uses to scare other people.  It's a movement that opposes free thought.

Please don't tell me that you really think you had something to do with this... This has to  be a joke.

It has been known for some time that terrorists have been using WoW to train people...

I hate to say it and it may sound pompous but yeah.  I've been targeted before.  I had people contact me wanting to trade an "AK-47" for a pistol that I was trying to sell.   It was obviously not a legal deal. ...  I don't buy for one second that these guys were militia... no one would be that stupid.....

I'm pretty sure my posts are monitored.

If your line is hard monitored, you will hear a faint click on an interval. There is of course other ways for checking to see if your phone is tapped. This isn't the forum for it though.

    Actually thats BS.

Your phone line is no longer tapped like it was in the 40's-80's.

It's a direct link with the telecommunications.

    How do I know this?

I was training for such things. There is no clamp, there is no crackle, and their sure as hell isn't a guy in a van across the street unless they are doing video/parabolics/heat.

These calls can be monitored from the station via servers and access to the telecommunications server.

    Nobody hard monitors anymore.

Well if I had a boring job like the fellows in the CIA or FBI or whatever, then I too would try to come up with some stupid excuse for playing games lol

    More bullshit about big brother?

Look. About WoW has about 10 million subscribers world wide. Only the Gods know how many people play video games online total. That's one hell of a lot of "white noise" to have to shift through.

Trying to find even a moderately sized group of of people in all that is like trying to find a needle in a.... great big... stack of... needles...

The government can't even deliver the fuckin' mail. And I'm supposed to believe that they know everything I say over every electronic medium I use? Whatever....

Really tho, who cares if the CIA is patrolling thru any game in an attempt to find terroirst communications. Just think about it a minute, it may seem stupid to you but maybe thats just why they are looking at wow as a possible source for terrorist orgs to send messages back and forth.  If you where planning some kinda mass murder of thousands of non militant civilians where would you hide your communication?? Would you make a website for it that has a huge possibility of getting attention or would you hide it in a virtual world that has connected 9 million people over 100 countries. Now im not saying that anyone is hiding anything in WoW or any other game but I CANT say they are not.  Just think for a second, when 9/11 went down and people started digging we found that government orgs had knowledge of it but it was scattered bits of info over several areas that all pieced together and everyone went nuts blaming the FBI and CIA of not doing anything when they had all the info before hand. Now we are here bitching about then doing just that, looking anywhere and everywhere for signs of something else to come.  So Im thinking we need to decide do we want them to do their jobs and what we asked and try to find the pieces of the puzzle and put them together or do we want them to leave our games alone and stop watching.  Me, I could care less they are looking over the game I am playing, I am not doing anything that will get me in trouble with the CIA, hell i could talk to a friend about smokin some dope and snortin a few lines, and I know the CIA wont do shit about it cuz they dont care.  They arent lookin for dope smokers or anything like that. So unless you are trading weapons and using WoW to hide your communication or you are planning on droppin some more planes on some more innocent NON-MILITANT civilians, i dont really think you need to worry. Hence wtf are you bitching about???

At first , I really thought this was a made up story, but I wouldnt doubt at all that online games with chat wouldnt be listened to by any goverment. A good friend of mine in England told me that the English Govt. found people in online porn chat rooms. They found them with a bunch of bomb making materials. Yea, I wouldnt doubt at all if they were using online games to talk to each other.  Also, just about every major country in the world is listening in on almost everything whether they will ever admit or not.

If you look at how many men, women and children have died to muslims around the world just because they werent muslims, you would be crazy to not think the US Govt wouldnt do anything in its power to stop more people being killed.

    my 2 cents

It's pretty simple when you think about it.

You want to blow up some women and children in a foreign country, becasue you are crazy Al Qaeda. You need to communicate with your operatives that are very far away. When you call on the cell phone, or use MSN Messenger, the damn CiA monitors your communications, and finds out where you are trying to blow up women and children, and that spoils all your fun.

If you could communicate in a game like WoW, and the CIA didn't pay any attention, then you could easily coordinate with your operatives to blow up women and children for whatever whacko reason you have to do something like that.

can you imagine if they had an automated system for this..

once one person triggers it, EVERYONE would be tripping it.. or luring people into tripping it.

It would be chaos, the internet is far too wild and untamed. The CIA would get smacked around and sent back to the USA ashamed.

don't be so fast to make fun. did you know that most of the viruses that are made are made by organized crime like the mafia and spread around to get things like credit cards and other info's of people

Americans are so dumb sometimes it is just funny

Actually, virusses are nearly extinct. Most are trojans and such (yes, there's a difference :) ) aimed to turn your PC into a zombie and abuse it to send viagra spam.

More ways to waste your tax dollars:

The impending doom at the hands of the teletubby watchers!

Seriously.. have you ever played WoW?

    "Al-Qadea".. more like La-Quesadilla

This is a sequence of characters intended to produce some profound mental effect, but it has failed.

Hey, slow down buddy. You Greeks owe the good ole U S of A  a big hunk. It was American supplied weapons that allowed the Spartans to slow up the Persians at Thermopolai, and without US Navy recon aircraft support you never would have beat Xerses fleet.

Don't they teach you anything about Greek history in school over there?

    You guys are funny.

All that it is, is them wanting to learn what amounts to typical cultural behavior in the games, so that they can spot weird behavior.  Just like if you saw someone acting very suspiciously wandering around your local park, you'd know something was odd going on.. they want to enable that sense from online worlds.. Not likely to work very well, way too many peculiar habits online, from all the rprs, pvprs, gankers, carebears, crafters, soldiers, variety of games and activities.. just too many people with different ideas of how to play/act online for it to make any kind of sense.

It sounds like someone working at the CIA is a WoW-addict and came up with this idea so he could play the game on company-time.

Maybe he got caught playing at work one day and had to come up with an explanation.

"Agent Smith, are you playing a VIDEO GAME at WORK?"

"No boss, I'm hunting terrorists.  Look, I'm undercover as a female night elf."

"Excellent disguise, Smith; keep up the good work."

What the hell?I assume u're just being sarcastic...Since u actually know that the Persian wars belong to our History and not Mythology.

Yup pardner, I sure do. The Persians was the precursor to the Iranians, who are developing weapons of mass destruction fer Al Quaida in Iraq, which was back then part of Persia. So you see, even back then we were supporting freedom and fighting the global war on terror against them thar Persian Muslim fundamentalist extremists.

So, ya'll outa thank Dubya for spreading the Athenian Democracy and keeping ya'll free!
