What I'm referring to is you have to hold your mouse over the target, and just keep clicking on that one target each time the sword lights up to attack. Also, I know you can use WASD to move around, but I was referring more to the combat system. It lacks multiple skills (aside from the 3 fighting styles), so you just hit, hit, hit. There is no move to counter, or special hits, etc. The monotony of the combat is what killed it for me.

The thing is, I've tried most of the playable demo's and trial versions of the popular games out there. I've watched the gameplay for PoTBS and it just doesn't appeal to me. I think part of it is shooting someone in the head at point blank range, then they stab you and you die. It's just not my type of game.
As for Vanguard, I no longer trust SoE games. EQ was okay, and EQ2 was good in beta, but the launch it made just killed it for me.
I'm not sure what it is, but most of my gaming preference revolves around MMO games, either RPG or FPS. Even though I'm really looking for a MMORPG game, I think I might go with a single player FPS. I've played the demo for Crysis and F.E.A.R., and personally F.E.A.R is way better in game play than Crysis. Also, F.E.A.R. gold is going for 30 bucks on direct download, while Crysis is still 50. Cheaper and better, I love that combo.

I agree it would have been nice to have more casting options and more combat options but I still find the game engaging enough to continue playing through.

As to what MMO you could try I can't help you there as I am in the same boat lol. I have tried them all and just can't get into any of them anymore.  I think I might need an MMO break as some have mentioned.

That might be the way to go then, it sounds like you have tried what is out there. Sadly there is a flooded MMO market with very little value. In terms of innovation, you see very little and as I had said if it was that good you would likely have played it by now.

Also of note is that the genre is going through a kind of evolution in terms of graphics and game play. If you look at games from three years ago and compare them to WAR and AoC there is almost a next gen look and feel to them with some new additions to the genre that make them have slightly more appeal than "yet another fantasy mmo that is a level grind".

So you might have the right idea by filling your time with something else.

I agree mostly, except for one little part. I play games in stretches, but I do go back to older games to play them. For example, I still have D2+LoD, and I play that at least once a month to keep the characters from expiring. It's not a great game, but it takes 0 to upkeep it for me. Considering I paid 40 bucks for it all, 5 years ago it seems, it was a good purchase. That was the same thing I went with when I bought guild wars last week or so. There is no money upkeep, so as long as I semi-enjoy it, it's a valid purchase for 30 dollars.

Also, back on track, I play a game solidly. As in, I have Game A, and Game B comes out two months later. Chances are, I'll play Game A for another 6 months before I consider getting Game B as long as Game A is entertaining. So, even though I passed up Game B when it came out, I'll go back later and play it for entertainment purposes. Will it be as good as it was when released? I highly doubt it, but it should be at least entertaining enough to keep me interested long enough to "beat" it. All of does become invalid though if Game C is released before I finish Game A, since Game C will most likely offer better entertainment, but as of now, there is now Game C on the market, or in my case, Game Z. :-)

I wrote a brief article on how to find a new MMORPG on my website (Listed below). However, the best thing you can do is decide what it is you liked about your previous games. Since it seems that your interested in WAR but DAOC is too old for you, consider Guild Wars perhaps

    Good Luck
