At GDC Cody Bye was able to sit down with Age of Conan Game Developer, Jason Stone. Jason was more than willing to answer a barrage of questions and tells us some new information about the depth of the game. He covers the DPS (Damage Per Second) of the classes, how healers will get to enjoy the combat as well, spellweaving (yes, it's still in!), PvP: its risks and rewards and the stats and levels of PvP as well as his definition of "active playing" and how it all plays out in Age of Conan. You're not going to want to miss this video. |

Pretty cool. Don't necessarily agree with the "more risk = more reward" bit in the open PvP. Typically, it has *less* risk than an even fight. A 30 man guild isn't going to overcome a 100 man guild for a battlekeep (assuming average intelligence). Why should the 100 man squad be rewarded more for "more risk"? They have faced *less risk* than a 10 on 10 battleground fight...

I think there are couple of things to keep in mind though!
1. Who is attacking and who is defending. : Defenders apparently get buffs from the buildings inside dependant on class. It could very be in a keep fight the defenders get the best buffs.
2. You risk getting your Keep overtaken/demolished. Thats the Risk the Reward is the benefits it brings.
3. The theatre is Open. Anyone can come to the fight.
great vid thx Avery. kind of worried about turtling. if the building gives you buffs i see a lot people just sitting in there. idk maybe its a good thing. force some strategy instead of just zerging the place... idk game looks great as of yet.
I have to say that personally I think there will lots of new types of strategy involved. People will love finding out what works best in what scenario. I love how all the classes are intertwined and have the ability to work off each other, independantly in a different tactical way that most of us aren't used to as well.
It going to be fun to see how it all works out, I take confidence that dev's like Jason and Evan, talk about the 'inner' workings with a passion with evidence to back it up on paper. Its certainly for me looking like its going to head that way in game too, from when they talk about that aspect.
Nice interview Jason! But where's the spikey hair?
