A lot of people had views on the costly economy in place in the game...

I want to be frank here, because I'm beginning to notice a recurring trend between player and developer communication.

The Fury team has repeatedly asked for our input since the massive Auran purge. However, regardless of the logic, intelligent presentation, and reasoning behind many of those suggestions, we've been greeted with almost identical responses.

One example is the fanatical attachment to item procs, which I cannot begin to understand. We've been documenting and testing independently since the release of AotC to demonstrate why and how certain procs are bad for game play. The response we get from Adam:

Quote:

"Looking at your suggestions, we won’t remove them completely. The opinion in the office is that they their presence adds more to the game than detracts from it."

Which begs the question, why did you ask for our opinions in the first place?

When the economy system came into question, Bossman asked Monky and others to clearly demonstrate how a different economy model would be beneficial to the long term success of the game. Auran's current stance on the issue is that the expense to include the artwork for those models would probably outweigh the potential revenue and may be prohibitive; currently Auran can't afford to take that risk. That's entirely plausible, and I urge Auran to attain some degree of financial stability prior to adding any elements that may change a major dynamic of the game.

However, when discussing the long term success of the game, failing to reconsider other viable business models that could stabilize your game economy is both pig-headed and financially irresponsible. If my investment banker kept sinking my money into the same bad stocks, I would pull my money out of that investment firm. Similarly, if the gold-sink model didn't assist you at retail well enough to support even half of your staff, seriously reconsidering that model seems more logical than cutting off all other revenue channels but that one.

The point I'm really driving at, here, is that while Bossman and Adam seem to want to present the facade of respecting and valuing our opinions, the general response we've received is "we like it, so we're going to keep it."

I think I've had my intelligence insulted enough, which is saying quite a bit, as I occasionally have the capacity to be quite humble (not one of my more well known strategies, but it's occurred once or twice). Simply asking for our opinions on something does not absolve you of your responsibility to seriously consider those opinions.

Please don't act so misunderstood. Some of us here have experience in business or design or development, or have simply played enough successful games to know what works and what doesn't. We may not know your specific financial situation, but we're trying to help. Failing to even seriously CONSIDER those opinions (and at least with the financial models, it would take a couple of days to put together a comprehensive business plan under each of the models suggested) basically tells us that your request for our patience and commitment to making the game better is nothing but lip service.

Simply stated- if you don't want our advice, don't ask for it. Just because you and the people in the office who agree with you have an opinion doesn't mean that opinion is in the best interest of the game. You're human, and you're entitled to make mistakes, but you also have a responsibility to your players and your team mates that you are blatantly ignoring.
