Extremely Shallow question but Im gonna ask it anyways

EnigmaEnigma Member UncommonPosts: 11,384

This is probably breaking the NDA but its such an innocent question, I honestly think the DEVS could care less.

Ok, here's my extremely shallow question.....shallow, in that, I must have this feature in an MMO or ill be turned off like a fat girl on a fashion runway

.....

Will there be chat bubbles?

Yes. Chat bubbles. I must have chat bubbles in an MMO in order for me to really enjoy it. I cannot tell you how much I hate having to look in a small chat box in the corner of my monitor to see what the hell the guy next to me is saying.

So...anyone wanna come out and tell me if the game has chat bubbles? lol.

Pfft, I'm not afraid of breaking the NDA...

To answer your question, in AoC there...

Holy Crap! it's Gaute Godager! Shouldn't you be- no, I swear! I wasn't gonna breach the NDA!

I can maybe shed some light for you. When I played at the community event, you could talk Globally and in the Vicinity amongst others. If you clicked vicinity and types in it came up in a speech bubble type enclosure above your head. I didnt try any other way. But it definately was clear above your character as I was asking for help in a PvP match =)

Maybe I can find a legitimate screen shot for you.

my understanding is that in /say type chat like warcraft, it will look just like warcraft.. in the since that it appears above the head. However, other than that, I dont believe there will be bubbles. so for party type chat, or raid, etc, start reading :) thats all i have heard thus far.

So I guess since you haven't beta tested AoC your previous post about being disappointed with the beta of a major upcomming MMO must have been about Warhammer. Was really looking forward to it too

I personally never cared much for chat bubbles.  I found it took away from the game for me so I disabled it where ever I went.  I find it interesting and a bit odd that people actually ask for this feature simply because of all the people I've gamed with and the friends I have that I play with on a daily basis non of them use the chat bubbles.  You are one of the very few I've heard of that likes this feature.

No required quests! And if I decide I want to be an assassin-cartographer-dancer-pastry chef who lives only to stalk and kill interior decorators, then that's who I want to be, even if it takes me four years to max all the skills and everyone else thinks I'm freaking nuts. -Madimorga-

Yeah i am the same, i cant stand chat bubbles, loses immersion in a game for me.

Making so much noise you dont know when to listen.

I like chat bubbles cause you can see what people are saying.

I feel that chat bubble are needed for a game to funstionmor properly. It's way more efficient then looking at teh chat box and then running around puttign your mous eover every character to find the guy.

    I give no mercy

i think your wrong, i hate chat bubbles, they get in the way of everything, then i cant see what im playing, then i die, then i start to cry... then i... i.... yeah

Yeah, chat bubbles clog up the screen, especially in cities. Also how hard can it be to look into a chat box...

I actually like chat bubbles too.  Thank goodness I found some screenshots that apparently shows they are in...

    I like chat bubbles...

They give a city and world "life" instead of the sterile chatbox..

You stand in a city and there's no noise.. just stern faced silent people standing around...

With chat boxes, at least you get a feeling of life..

I kinda of liked having them in CoX. Could customize the colors to match my outfits too which was fun. If people saw my box they knew instantly it was me out of a crowd that the bubble was conected to. I think another cool option to take up less screen space, would be a sort of indicater that would pop over peoples heads if they chatted. But actual text would be in a box.

I would say that the best thing to do is put them in but have the option of turning them off for the people that hate them.

Also some sort of transparency setting for the chat bubbles would be nice.

Some times with so many people talking it can be hardto read the chat bar before it goes to farr up to read it.

I like Chat bubbles because I dont have to rush to read things, I can just see people reading it in front of me.

    Good idea.

In games that i've played that have had Chat Bubbles I have had NPC Chat Bubbles on and the PC Chat Bubbles off. Chat Bubbles on the NPC lets me know which NPC was talking.

All MMO's have grinds. If you don't like to Grind then MMO's are not for you.

I dont know if i like chat bubbles or not......but i must have them to be able to play!  As a roleplayer its impossible to play without them. If you are in a room with twenty people, all speaking.......you need chat bubbles.

I guess you dont need them in PvP or PvE, but if you are a social person always talking.......

  • IlliusIllius Member UncommonPosts: 4,142

I say put them in, with a disable function.  That way I can turn them off and all you people who do want them can have them on.
