In thinking about micro transactions and gold famers and such, I thought about offlline games like Oblivion. What if MMO's were like an offline game?
Imagine if you will a server that allowed the user two paths.
1) The normal MMO path of gaining levels, working towards the goals of getting items, and all the fluff that came with it.
2) The alternative path where you can be top level, all the fluff items and everything in game right at the start. What if the only difference was a title showing who actually earned the loot.
Would the players who got everything right away still want to raid the dungeons? Would they still feel satisfied about their gameplay? Would people ever work for the stuff, or give into temptation and obtain the free things.
I suppose with the technology available now, one server could support an instance of each zone, one for those earning everything and one for those not. I mean if some players desperately want to break the rules and cheat, why not let them have their precious gold, see what happens?
As for the economy and such, those who create a character that cheats would not be allowed to buy or sell, what would be the point? So the economy would still be run solely by those who don't cheat.

Too complicated.
Simpler.
Specific server.
Have a casual server. I don't care if 90% of the players play there (I doubt that), if they are happy doing whatever nonsense there. They gain levels extremely fast and loot is given at random everyday? I don't mind.
What happen on another server doesn't affect me.
Me, I just want a server where EVERYTHING is optimally earned in groups. Yes, in PvE groups, you earn everything. Peoples on other servers wouldn't care (if they do, they are welcome to join my superior setting or the casual server if they rather), and I don't care about what happen on other servers.
FLASHSNEWS: On the test server, player can do everything and get every item without any effort. They are testing the game, and they have epic stuff given to them, /autolevel 50, or /autolevel 15 (even tried testing an epic on a level 15 character?).
Again, specific servers is the solution for all this. If casuals get it easy, good for them. If they want it harder, they can come on my server later, or they can choose to play it easy...I absolutely don't mind, they would be welcome on my server, if the challenge is appealing to them, but if they want the I WIN button and fire lightning and accept to pay my devs $15 a month, it means more content on my server as well, and I will be glad they support the same game I do.

This is never going to happen. You would, in effect, split your community, which is the single most important thing when it comes to an MMO.. community.
I'm not totally against the idea, if it were a controlled setting, and I think its a great idea, and a good post. Its just about 110% unlikely to happen.
