another one of those games where you grind for a couple months to level up, then grind all the time for this or that, then spend months and years collecting Uber gear so that you can stand around and look cool.... and tell people that you are a hardcore gamer... despite the fact that you get dizzy and throw up when you play FPS games.

Sound about right?

No there are other ones out there... however the WoW idiots refuse to recognize the existence of the other games...  Or I should say they buy the other games... play 15 minutes and realize that they could be working on their WoW faction rep and go OMG and log off and go play WoW.  Then they insult the other games because they aren't like WoW.

Examples: Pirates of the Burning Sea... EvE.... WWII Online.... Roma Victor, and  DDO as welll to a large extent... even though endgame is quite limited.  I'm sure there are more than that, but those are the one's I'm aware of.

If I wanted to play WoW... I wouldn't have deleted the game from my hard drive and thrown the disks in the trash.

another thread where someone claims to know how a game will work without presenting any tangible evidence, nor any experience (how could he, the game's not released), to make a claim about a game he obviously has not bothered to check out the available facts of. Not to mention that he compares games from totally different areas with each other. If you like EVE Online, why not play it, instead of attacking another game? Or Pirates of the Burning Sea? Or wait for Earthrise to come out?

Seriously, I respect your wishes for a game, I really do, I just don't see why you need to attack a game that was never meant to be like the games you obviously like so much better. I don't think the Developers of AoC -ever- claimed they would do a game anywhere -near- EVE Online or the other examples you brought up.

Interesting thoughts! Often what I think of in my mind, but don't have the courage to say about games because of the overwhelming fear of being incinerated by an inferno of flaming text. Good stuff!

Just figured I'd drop in and flame you guys.  So easy to do.   Anyway I think the game will fail because it's target audience will all keep playing WoW.

a fairly typical MMORPG game.  Hopefully it will add a few tweaks that make it different than its predecessors, but as long as I'm having fun, I don't care.

If I want different, I'll keep playing EVE.  (which I will)

I think that assuming that wow will pull all of AOC customers away is not a far fetched statement. But i do not believe that it will come true. Over the last year, two games that have'nt been released yet( AOC and WAR) both are ranked higher then wow. Wow in 6th place, AOC in 3rd and WAR in 1st. AOC is targeting a higher age group then WOW. The game is rated M and it will keep the little kids out. I think that AOC will struggle to pass WOW's 9 million player, but AOC will not loose any potential customers to WOW. Mainly because i think that wow is for little 8-12 year olds that cant hack it in a more in depth mmorpg like AOC.

    I give no mercy

Your judging a game on its audience, before it has even been released to gather one...seems abit stupid to me.

Making so much noise you dont know when to listen.

i can see a grind easily.  but its a grind that i know i will enjoy.  i have not yet met an MMO (aside from old SWG) where the game really (and i mean REALLY) hooked me.  this is usually due to the lore (never liked Warcraft, never heard of Everquest before i had played it )

the 2 games that will catch my eye is WAR and AoC.  i am gonna enjoy both and have fun but i do feel AoC will keep me longer because of the grind

    MMO wish list:

    -Changeable worlds
    -Solid non level based game
-Sharks with lasers attached to their heads

Well what did you expect? Just read up on the game Age of Conan and you realize this is the game you will get. Its a WoW-copy more or less. Id say most MMORPG players look too much on the graphics. Age of Conan is a nice looking game, i agree. But then you should read up on the game features and compare them to other games features.

For me have gameplay always been the most important issue, nice graphics have been a nice bonus. UO have horrible graphics as of today standards but on the freeshard i play its just about the same intense gameplay as when UO was released.

So i played WoW for a year and then throwed up and went back to UO freeshards cause it was just alot more fun. No forever boring grinding, not itembased PvP, full loot and a superior ingame heat btw players cause the interaction btw players is total. Alot of fun griefing and total freedom. All is examples of what is needed to make a LONGLASTING interesting MMORPG.

So i keep play the UO freeshards waiting for the only game with really good features and total freedom, Darkfall.

You and me both Ky, I enjoy eve again since I started firing it up again. Its a good game to play while waiting for others to come out. Im waiting for the AoC NDA to be lifted to make any decisions regarding playing the game. Really waiting for warhammer most of all though. :D

    Playing: Not much actively.
Games played: to many to list, been playing MMO's since 2001

In your attempt to make someone look like a fool for bringing up a FPS comparison you also ended up making yourself one.My guess is you are awful at FPS style games and in turn try to make them seem easy to be really good at when you yourself probably suck at them and just try to use a dumb statement like the one you made to cover up for your lack of skill. If you wanna bash the OP thats fine but damn near every type of genre takes skill especially multiplayer games.

WoW is popular because it is so easy to understand and play. Blizzard created it with the concept of the largest age range possible.. in that they succeeded. Hense their 10 million players. How much you want to bet several million of those are under 13? AoC will attract a more older audience.. the kiddies can stay at WoW...

Why are you guys arguing with a guy that clearly, as he has stated, is here to merely flame.

We know that AoC isn't a WoW clone, which is probably why we are anticipating it so much.

The combat is NOTHING like WoW.

The story is NOTHING like WoW.

The art direction is NOTHING like WoW.

The WORLD is NOTHING like WoW.

The content is NOTHING like WoW.

They are NOT targeting the same audience as WoW.

    WoW = WWF

    AoC = UFC

What more needs to be said?

Someone is just looking for a fight.  Requiring someone to click and point to shoot just doesn't feel like it would be categorized as hardcore either.  Although a game that requires skill, knowledge, and dedication would be a lot closer.
