Planetside fun?

ghostsamanghostsaman Member Posts: 48
I would like to try Planetside but I don't know so much about it. Is it fun? Is it like total war 40+ players against 40 other? Is it fun to drive an fly vehicles?

Theirs no limit to the players in the battles. Sometimes you might see a few people fighting and sometimes alot. Its just one big world with lots of people fighting. I never really did any flying, but the driving is kind of fun. I was was usually the gunner.

We really cant say if its a good game, or if you would like it. You have to decide for your self on the things that you would like. Some might say it sucks and others might say it rules. It all comes down to your choice, so I would try the trial and see for you self.

1.So it is like a big world you walk around in and it no safe zones?

    2. How do the players battle eachother? Do they just meet in the middle of nowhere and start shooting at eachother or does a GM write in the chat "Everyone come to this place and lets have a little war" ?

    3. What happens when you die?

    1. There are different continents you try to take over on this one big planet. There ARE safe zones on each continent and each team gets thier own continent or "Base" where they are safe from attack.

    2. There are 3 teams that fight over bases on each continent. There are about maybe 30 bases on each one. They fight over each base until they have em all. Usually on big group will plan an invasion and start taking over a continent and the enimy will notice this and come and try to stop it... than more people come.

    3. When you die you can choose a spawn somewere close to where you died as long as the spawn is your base. You dont lose anything when you die. You just go out and kill some more.

WARNING!: For some people this game can get old. But if you like FPS like CS or BF194 then its a pretty fun game.

I tried out the free trial and it was pretty cool. The only problem is the fact that its an MMO with an FPS edge. In order to have a fun FPS, you generally need a low ping so your shots are accurate and Planetside can't promise that. Now i played htis around a year ago, so maybe they fixed some lag issues, but i generally found the game frustrating due to the fact that sometimes your shots wouldn't register.

I didnt play it enough to get a full idea of the game, so don't take my opinion into much account, more less just a minor consideration!

I personally, as a woman and, in general, not interested in FPSes, still found this game to be awesome. Yes, there was a lag issue in the beginning, but I've found that it has stabalized a great deal. However, you don't necessarially need to purchase core combat, as most folks don't play in the new zones offered. (Though the new weapons are nice.)

Hmm This game sounds really fun for me. I play cs and I like btf and mmorpgs. It might be a game for me gotta try it out. But I need to know something, I never buy action games unless they contain blood(No I'm not sick :P) It's just that I can't play a shooter that does not have blood because it reminds me of the sh*t games that EA creates.

No blood, But most MMOs never really have blood. Some do but not Planetside. The bodies disapear after killed and leave a backpack behind.

    to be honest...ehhh no.

I played it since release.....until recently.  Its a very good MMO and the only one (out of the many i have played) that I never canceled.  Alas I did finally cancel my account due to my wife's threats of divorce.  So now I am letting that all cool down till WoW release. image

    Great game though!!

I am a traditional MMORPG player, but I do enjoy the odd FPS now and again. I recently subscribed to planetside for 1 month, purely to see what its like, and why the heck an FPS might be called an MMORPG! image

Its good fun, I got into a friendly outfit (guild), and actually I just logged off a few minutes ago, after performing some exciting aerial stunts trying to avoid gunfire from turrets image. If you are unsure about playing PS I would suggest you just go ahead and try it - I have enjoyed my time spent playing it, it does get boring if you have no one to group with (solo work is all well and good, but the fun really gets going when you mash the oppositions defences from your convoy of 6 tanks!).

Planetside, to me at least, has too little depth. Its fun, but it isnt different each time, to the extent that I would subscribe for another month. I will cancel the sub before I am billed for another months worth of playing. It is a fun game, and I will carry on playing it right through to the end. I have met some people who have played since release and are still playing. This game is not for everyone though, so give it a go - you can always cancel if you take up one of the deals such as the one I took. $9.99 and you can download the game. For me, I think having a look at what an FPSMMOG is like has been a good thing, but as I already have said - its not for everyone.

Thats misinformation sorry.I currently play planetside and can tell you on the emerald and werner on prime time there is always one population locked continent. This bassically means the continent has hit the maxiumum ammount it can take which is said to be 150-200  per empire and there are 3.

So there is never any lack of people to kill thats for sure on prime time.

There is a known issue in which instant action would throw you sometimes to places where a couple of guys are fighting it out.So maybe this is what you used to try get action.

Best way is to listen to the global broadcast from your commanders and then follow. This usually will lead you to a large scaqle battle

Ok, Now I think I wont buy it, but maybe I'll try it later. And yes it really sux when there are no players in the game, and it sux more when there are no players in a great game like AO. One thing more sux :P When the corpses dissapear because the sh*t company EA makes games like that, they don't care about the gamers they just want money..

Your decision of course but if its because you think the game is empty then you been grossly misinformed.

Espically after the server merger the main problem is actually getting into a population locked continent because its hit its limit.

If you decide not to buy the game for other reasons then thats ok.But if its because you think you will not find battles raging then like I said you been misinformed.

Planetside is amazing fun but only if you have at least 512mb of ram anything less wont cut it at all.
