Age of Conan: The workings of stealth

AmazingAveryAmazingAvery Age of Conan AdvocateMember UncommonPosts: 7,188

Little write up at IGN read it here: http://rpgvault.ign.com/articles/855/855495p1.html

Movement and noise are also factored into the calculations churning away in the background. Those stomping around in full plate are going to be decidedly easier to notice than a figure draped in silent silks lurking in the corner and waiting to strike. It's not just a matter of getting hidden; it's also one of remaining hidden, keeping to the shadows and staying out of sight... most importantly because NPCs and player characters both have their own sets of senses. Fashion can be a matter of life and death in Hyboria, just as it is everywhere else.

There are also 3 exclusive screen shots.

I think it sounds very good, i'm really looking forward to try it out.

And i wonder how assassins will do in pvp, as the article say it's hard to vanish in the middle of the day.

That's a great article describing stealth.  If it's all true, I can't think of a MMO that does a more realistic interpretation of what stealth is.  I suppose the next closest would be DDO with light factoring into the equation.

Yes its a great article, and the pictures shows those interested what you look like and from recent videos how your move depending on class picked.

I think I'll make an assassin just so that I can creep behind Avery and every so often whip a pebble at his helmet and make it ring then quickly hide in the shadows again.... then do it all over again.

No required quests! And if I decide I want to be an assassin-cartographer-dancer-pastry chef who lives only to stalk and kill interior decorators, then that's who I want to be, even if it takes me four years to max all the skills and everyone else thinks I'm freaking nuts. -Madimorga-

Actually DDO takes more than just light into the equation. Look into the armor check penalties. Same basic principle as described here basically.

The article listed above states that they can smell you aswell... is that just some over-excitable writer posting up all the senses to make it sound better... or can the mobs actually smell you when your around?

IE... do you have to stay off the sardine sandwiches or pickled onions in your backpack when trying to creep up on someone?

or drank some prune juice, and ate some spinach, and now where you are standing behind the big bad wizard, you reallly gotta fart. Noise and smell ;-). This give Leroy chars whole new kind of ways to screw his team hehe

Well it could be a trade off, high end food that regenerates health at a better rate, gives off a fouler odour when under stealth

Just found and read this and am fairly impressed with the approach they are taking, I think it will make for amazing combat situations.
