Seeking new Spacey Skills Game (& I don't undrstnd the abrrs.)

Hi,

I'm looking for a new game to get into. I loved Ultima Online years ago and have been playing Settlers ever since (the first one, yep, the DOS version). I love the fact that I get loads of time to sit and make a nice little base for myself and get rich as it were.

Ideally I'd like to get into something online, like Ultima, where you improve your skills, earn cash, maybe buy property etc, but in space. I can't remember the name of it but there was a cool spaceship game a while ago where you had to go around trading with the best ship you could afford, that would be fun.

I'd love to play a game where I have to do some stuff to get cash to buy a ship, then use it to get upgrades, maybe do some missions etc.

So, I'm effectively new to the scene. What's good at the mo? What are you lot playing that I might like?

I just learned what MMORPG means so let's keep the TLAs to a minimum please )

Well, I saw the EVE online ad and signed up for my free trial... and have just spent the last two days rather bored. The performance also gets worse the longer I am logged in so I have to keep logging out and back in. I finally started to think I might have some fun when I managed to buy a bigger ship to do some serious mining with, only to find that I'm not allowed to train all of the necessary skills on my trial account. I'm afraid that was strike three for EVE.

 

I'm off to have a look at Star Wars Galaxy then.

Hmm, "fun" isn't a word I associate with mining in EVE.  And if you are having performance issues I'd recommend you load the low res client if your PC isn't up to the challenge, as it runs great on darn near anything.

As for training skills during the trial, I doubt there's many like that which you can reach in 15 days.... and if so, you've neglected to train your learning skills properly.

Good luck with SWG...and Jump Gate Evolution might fit the bill if it releases later this year as planned.

If you are interested in PvP, I suggest Vendetta-Online    . The controls are more fps based, I suggest reading the tutorials, etc. and then try the trial.
