May he walk amongst the great, old trees,

    and find Joy

D @ D kept me sane as a boy and filled my youth with dreams of elves and dragons.

My moral and ethical path was set and the boundaries laid by great adventures and the choices I made during them.

As a man, I still dream of elves and dragons.

What Gary refined and presented to modern man is what the ancients called the Storyteller.

Mankind's first Actors, Singers, Poets and Teachers rolled into one.

    Gary,  thank you.

    /me salutes

Fare well, G(reat) M(onster). It was your work that inspired so many people and fueled the flames of their imagination. It was your work that led to many hours fun, spent together with friends.

Go back and roll up a new character !

    Have fun

Farewell master of so many lost afternoons, evenings, overnights, weekends and all nighters.

The masterpiece you worked on suffered at the hands of the ignorant, but in the end successfully bridged gaps that not even politics or religion could so easily accomplish.  Truly an inspiration that brought life to the table, to the stories, to the big and little screens, to the backyard, to the imagination in many boys, girls, men and women of yesterday, today and tomorrow.

Even if you cannot take credit for the works that succeeded you, your pioneering inspiration certainly paved the way for them.

Enjoy your peace whichever pantheon you chose to follow.

All RPG dungeons sould be closed at least a hour in honour the Master of all Dungeon Masters. So sad, life is soo fast, most people tat play MMO-RPG games have no idea who this guy is.

I thank Gary for inviting D&D. Without D&D, I would have drank more as a teenager and would have ended up in trouble. All MMOs owe him a debt of gratitude. They should erect statues in all Fantasy MMOs for him.

We don't need a king of MMOs, we need a group of Titans so that everyone can play what suits them best.

Very sad to hear. I meet him a few times over the years and he was a very nice man. 70 was way to young for the passing of this icon.

Dammit Gary, you have hell of a lot to answer for....

Gary unknowingly spawned a whole generation and genre. Innovators rarely get the credit they deserve and I believe this to be true in Gary's case.

    Sympathies to the family.

There are few names that spark the imagination, Gygax, like Tolkien, will always be remembered. Imagination and a set of dice,  he gave us the keys to  worlds of fantasy and adventure,  of heroic deeds, and fantastic creatures.  His legend will live on

Thank you Gary for many hours of RPG fun.  D&D was a big influence on me.

See you on the upper planes...

This is incredibly sad news to me.  I do not really believe in having heroes but Gary Gygax was an exception.  I definitely consider him a hero to me.  His works had such a great impact on me growing up.  I got the chance to correspond with him on a couple of different message boards.  He was also very kind and a  class act.  You will be missed Gary.
