If they made a few everquest 1servers free to play(less the expansions and original discs)

and made them into classic servers

and took away all of the overpowering items

    yes, I'd play it

Ive reactived my eq2, wow, and eve accounts numerous times.  Ive also canceled this numerous times.  Every time i came back, i seemed to love the game more then i had previously.  Now i do not play any mmorpg in anticipation of WAR.

I generally agree with this, except I might extend it to a year if the game is very popular, because then there will still be new people subscribing.

It's not even that much fun if there are still people in the low level areas, but they are all alts, because then they are just twinking their toons, and they will quickly leave you behind if you are new.

It truely depends on the game.  I've often said, as many here know, that most MMORPG's aren't really worth playing till they've been out for at least 6 months, and usually not for a year or so.  An unfortunate truth is that MMO's are frequently released in an unfinished state and don't really reach a state worth paying for for several months after release.  There have been a few exceptions to this but largely that's the rule.  So starting a game late is actually better in many ways than 'being the first'.

That said there is such a thing as waiting too long.  I loved UO... really I did.  Still do in fact.  But anyone trying UO today for the first time would likely be turned off by it.  Not because it's a bad game but because the game is so old.  The graphics are dated and it's community is small now.  It's hard to get into and I wouldn't want to be a 'true newbie' in it's world.

Same for DAOC or many other older games which, while phenomenal games even to this day they are much harder to 'join' now because of graphics age (face it, graphics are the 'hook' that grabs most people) and because the populations are not only smaller but also very very sparse at lower levels, making a new player's life fairly lonely and boring in them.

So, yes, I'd join an older game.  But generally it depends on the game as to 'how old' it can be before I won't consider it any longer.

As to reactivating an account?  It once again depends on the game and the reasons why I left.  But it's never because a game is 'too old' so much as it's a question of 'why did I leave and has that changed?'

I've just started playing FFXI again after a 3 year break and I'm playing from the start again with new characters.

To be honest it is something of a nostalgia thing, but I've been surprised that there are still quite a good number of new players. In the first grouping area (Valkurn Dunes) it's less busy than the first time I played but there is still plenty of opportunity to find a party. On the upside there is more space, but still enough players so it is a fun experience.

I like playing games when they are new because they are fresh and exciting but I have experienced many disappointments recently. With an older game I find that you talke your time more and relax. You know you will always be so far behind some players that there is less pressure to rush. With other games I have occasionally felt like it was a mad frantic rush to keep up.

It is a pity that FFXI's graphics do look a bit lame now, but still the gameplay is good enough and I'm happy that I'm paying this games monthly fee once more. I'm also paying monthly to Vanguard, but not really playing because it feels too much like a solo game compared to FFXI.

I dont like starting in a game that been out for 6 months to a year. Then again im a hardcore gamer so i'm always in search of the next latest and greatest. I prefer to start a game where nobody knows much about it  so that the playing field is level. The discovery process is nice as well. All a new  person to WOW has to do is go to www.thottbot.com and the who game is basically laid and written out for them. I find that boring but it was't like that when WOW was released... I prefer new games to older ones.

If all you're doing in vanguard is soloing, you're missing a lot.  The group content is the funnest stuff, IMO.  To be fair, group content doesnt exactly come out and smack you in the face; i guess that's part of the adventure or whatever.  My advice is to ask in chat what a good place to group at your level is.  People are generally very helpful.

I think what he is saying is that in FFXI you are forced to group or you just cant advance in game so you are always in a group in FFXI where as Vanguard this is not the case I have only just re-subbed to Vanguard last night after updating my Pc and have not played again yet lol as i had to wait 9 hours for it to update, i did try it this morning before i went to work and i had it on Ultr high settings and was running areound at 40fps no stutter or anything which imo is bloody good comapred to what i used to get anyways i guess i will give it a good workout tonight.

I wouldn't bother with any because the community moves forward too fast.Players nowadays are like little 14 year old kids who think playing an MMO is like playing a console game where the goal is to finish as fast as possible.Game economies change drastically nowadays because of RMT and cheating, any player joining late will struggle at least 5x more than the beginning.

Game DEVS have decided over the years that adding new content would be restricted to high end gameplay and ignores the noobs. This shows how clueless they are ,because if there game had any merit at all, players would go back and re roll a different job and experience the game from another perspective. It makes it real hard to do this when you know you will see nothing new and repeat everything over that you have already done. There has to be more content across the board than just a level and gear oriented game.If i enjoy the game alot ,i want to re roll a different class but at the same time i would like to see some new content ,making the new experience feel NEW.

Joining a game late will also make it very hard to find players your own level AND share the same values. What happens in ALL older games ,is new players join, looking for guilds/clans/linkshells with high level players to hold there hand through the game.IMO this is not enjoying or experiencing the game ,the way it was designed. So unless a game had a very good design to keep many players in the noob areas, then joining would be a waste of time, and may take some longer than others to realize it.

I can count hundreds of times,i have heard new players join in games i play, ranting about how great the game is,then a month later they are gone. This is merely a fact of game design that doesn't cater to new players joining old games.

This is why I quit Vanguard. I could of put up with the hitching (i didnt have crashing problems or dieing).  They changed it right after launch with Missives to give people easy solo experience and item rewards. They also chopped the experience needed to level.
