I can already Fly in a korean style MMORPG, is called Air Rivals. And not-suck, that is strange for a korean-style mmo. But AION? what can save AION from that korean gameplay that western don't fully approciate?
Perhaps the fact that Aion is a game made for appeal to a western audience, perhaps?
Aion is nothing like the usual korean grinder. sadly, few people are open minded enough to look past a stereotype.

I don't know what you're basing that opinion on. There's really not enough info that's been released to say it is or isn't an Asian grinder, regardless of their goals.
If it isn't another Asian grinder, I'm sure people will take a second look, but until then it's just not very interesting.
I don't care who it's made to appeal to pinks and pastels colors and fighting fluffy kittens in a flower garden is not going to sell games in the west.

Probably that they have already an active game (~1M active players) which is a grinder and they want to appeal to another audience instead of killing their other game.
Probably the fact that Koreans already played beta and they are pointing at it as a casual game.
Probably the game designers stating that the leveling curve in Aion is somewhat just a bit higher than WoW.
Probably the fact that games like WoW are hits now in Korea and they realized there's a market to explore.
Probably the fact that people reported that they could level 1-20 in 20 hours and the game has 50 levels.
Probably the fact that there were 200 quests in closed beta (1 to 20) with cinematics/transformations and not fedex system.
Probably the fact that you can level with pvp, raiding, gathering resources, with quests and pveing which makes the grind less of a grind.
And to the previous poster: Mind me enlightening you and, at the same time, showing one of the new features for the second closed beta in korea?

Time and again Gameloading leaps bravely to the defense of Korean MMO's with bold cries of "it's not grindy this time, really!" and "it's made to appeal to a Western audience!". Perhaps it's time to face the fact that the difference between Eastern and Western gameplay styles is an insurmountable one, and more importantly that it's ok to prefer one style over the other and not have to try to please/convert everybody.
For my money, the Conan gritty art direction, background lore and immersive combat system holds way more appeal than the shiny manga grafx and lightweight gameplay that are the hallmarks of NCSoft products both Eastern and Western (Lineage2, Guild Wars, City of Heroes/Villains, Auto Assault) but it's only that - my personal opinion. I can totally respect the reasons why many would prefer the latter.
From the looks of it, I see another asian grindfest where the male toons are as pretty if not prettier than the female toons. Where everyone looks the same and any individualism is lost in a sea of sameness...not my thing.
AoC on the other hand is gritty, dark and chaotic. Where you can personalize your character to make him look unique, even give him a big nasty, ugly scar to go with a gnarly face tattoo. I think I will go with AoC.

Ok, an Asian grindfest, with slightly less grind. Somehow that just sounds sort of meh.

Well, you can be rest assured that Aion is not a grindfest in the traditional "Asian Grindfest" sense. The CM Ayase has stated that the leveling was a little harder than wow.
That is not to say that they are eliminating any type of grind, etc etc. So often players see that and they start pissing and moaning that the developers lied and said there wouldn't be any grind. It is however supposed to utilize more quest based leveling.
Also, in Aion you will most likely have just about as many customization options as AOC. I say "just about' because though you can pick from a very large variety of faces, hair, size, etc, you can't (as of now) change things like nose size or eye size, etc.
If you want to be more clear about what Aion offers you can check it out at Aionsource.com
I do however completely agree with you that Conan is the more gritty option. Aion is more of a high concept offering which (though I will be trying it) I can't see the masses getting behind. But that is just my opinion.
Like Skyrim? Need more content? Try my Skyrim mod "Godfred's Tomb."

Both, Aion and AoC promise a similar leveling curve at this time. Every game is a grind.
Yes, but there's more to a game than just the leveling curve. If you take your average asian grindfest, and change it so that it's easy to level, that doesn't really make it any better.

Not something to generalize about since most of the MMOs suck dick. Wether they are Asian or not.

I must have gotten the wrong MMOs. Mine don't suck dick. If they did I wouldn't care how bad the gameplay was. Anyway, until either game comes out and I play it, I won't know which one I'll like more. Good ideas often times create crappy games.

I'll take AION's "fluffy fufu" to dirt and grit through the whole game.
I'm able to ignore just about any type of graphics except for the dirt and grit look after about twenty mins of being in the game. not to menton the dirt and grit look always looks great the year it's made but is fugly three or four down the line(sure you'll only play it for one or two, but taking the dirt and grit look is like saying this game will end).
I find it amazing that by 2020 first world countries will be competing to get immigrants.

Also, if you look at the gameplay video's you'll notice that the gameplay and movement is alot more similar to say, World of Warcraft then Lineage 2.
I have to wonder, have you done any research on the game? Or have you just looked at a trailer and based your entire opinion on the fact this game comes from Korea?

For everyone else out there who's not an obsessive compulsive hand-washer, choosing an art direction style that perfectly fits your genre does not necessarily spell doom for the entire project.

I've looked at the offical website, and there isn't much concrete info there.
Personally, I don't like questing. It's ok, but I prefer to get in a group, and go after mobs. If it's part of a quest, that's fine, but I never read NPC dialog because it doesn't make any difference in the game.
Do I care WHY the NPC wants me to get 10 xyz bones, or take these boots to that guy over there, or kill 10 xyz mobs? Not really, since you could substitute any story you want, and the outcome is the same.
Hm lets see... Aion looks better to me, it has more quests and it doesnt require a top end computer to have a decent FPS (frame per second) in a crowded area. Looking better, that's a question of taste, so no arguement from me there, but more quests?? Where do you get that idea from? Aion offers more (from what we know so far) both as pvp and complexity. Again, where do you get that idea from? I'd really be curious about the PvP in Aion. Do they have Siege Warfare, too? Models, weapons, armors look CRAP in AoC. I'd say they look more realistic than the High Fantasy theme of Aion, but again, that's taste, so no argument. Aion will offer free expansions and AoC probably wont. They will?? OK, point for Aion. ^^ Aion... yes AION. Hell I would play TCoS over AoC if Aion wouldnt even exist.
It would be nice of you to answer the questions in red please. I am truly curious.
Now, seriously, I'd go for AoC - action, a great IP, violence and... nipples!
Aion? Incredible graphics - scalable? I don't know about that. And as it's being developed in Korea, I must say I'm a bit wary of korean mmogs... They tend to seem too much alike.
hm.. strange.. this days I have been feeling like getting AoC ... because AION is going to take a while until the release date hit today in my calendar
I think i will be going with AOC. I prefer the realistic look to the ultra fantasy look of items.
Aion does look very nice in the screenshots though. I actually think both games look very good but different.
It seems that Aion my be Korea's answer to WoW though. And anything that sounds like it has a play style alot like WoW makes me vomit in my mouth a little.
P.S. When exactly did the genre turn into "Grind Sucks and we want to have only quest driven EXP now"

Aion offers more (from what we know so far) both as pvp and complexity.
Models, weapons, armors look CRAP in AoC.
Aion will offer free expansions and AoC probably wont.
Aion... yes AION.
Hell I would play TCoS over AoC if Aion wouldnt even exist.
It would be nice of you to answer the questions in red please. I am truly curious.
Which Final Fantasy Character Are You?
Final Fantasy 7
Now, seriously, I'd go for AoC - action, a great IP, violence and... nipples!
Aion? Incredible graphics - scalable? I don't know about that. And as it's being developed in Korea, I must say I'm a bit wary of korean mmogs... They tend to seem too much alike.
AOC of course any nub sniffer would know dat.
hm.. strange.. this days I have been feeling like getting AoC ... because AION is going to take a while until the release date hit today in my calendar
P.S. When exactly did the genre turn into "Grind Sucks and we want to have only quest driven EXP now"
With WoW mainly, and AoC follows the same path!
