I made it to level 43 with three different characters (all Bellatio).
I quit the game and erased it from my PC after, for the millionth time, a gang of 30 or so level 40+ bells spent close to 15 minutes pounding on a level 50 Accretian, who in the end simply force-logged. Bullshit.
Pot-hacking, exclusively equipment-based, and forever-grinding game, where 6 or so level difference at higher levels means that the higher level WILL WIN. Forget skill, forget all that happy crap! This game is about achieving the highest level possible and then simply running around and killing everybody lower level than you for kill points.
You do enjoy the sky-rocketing experience while leveling to about level 25. After that - grindfest. Mobs that give any kind of meaningful experience are for the most part located off-mainland, so you have to spend lots of hard earned cash on travel. Once you get there - nine chances out of ten some high level people are simply waiting for you at the gates to gank you. And, of course, you won't be able to do anything about it. So... you log off to play with your other character if that one is lucky enough to get exp on mainland. You log back on to level up the higher level one - yay! The gankers are gone! And the grind fest begins... The more (expensive) health potions you have, the more mobs you can handle. Until you get ganked by a by-passing high level who is not worried about aggro from high level mobs surrounding your little camp area.
Forget this, plenty more games to occupy my free time with!!!
Actually guys, I'd rather take a "Go five steps to the left and kill one million mobs"-quests than "Go to point B which is 30 mins from your location (point A), talk to NPC, go to point C which is 15 mins from previous location (point , kill one pitboss which is only doable in a decent party, go back to point C, talk to NPC and then return to point A i.e. your original location and talk to NPC only to find out that you need to go to point D which is 45 mins from point A and talk to NPC for your reward"-quests. If unlike me, you like those long-ass running around quests, try Perfect World.
But yeah, RFO definitely has too few quests. As for not enough cash for pots, I'd say you're doing something wrong, though I never reached lvl50 on CM servers so I don't know how's farming at that level there. I farmed my ass in "Chooty land" for most of my cash. Calianas were very generous. :P
Not all games have those quests either...as mentioned before, Guild Wars has instant travel, meaning you go from point A to point B in less than a minute.
I have to disagree with the general sentiment here. RF Online is probably my favorite MMO. Desipte all the problems Codemasters has caused for me over the years, I have to say that RF Online was designed very well.
The problem here is that many people here only have limited experience on the retail server. I have to agree that, in that circumstance, RF could be another horrible grinding game. If you find a private server (with 6x rates), though, RF can be wonderful. Sure the quests are boring, but that's not much different from any other MMO, if you think about it.
On such a private server, it is possible to reach level 40 very quickly and actually enjoy the Chip wars, Pit Bosses, and higher level zones (without ever spending a dime on the game). The PvP is excellent, though the unbalanced races, corrupt GMs, server lag, and poorly designed cash shops can ruin the fun after a while (if the admin doesn't know what he/she is doing). Still, I strongly encourage people to give this game a try. A simple google search for "Top RF Servers" or some such will give you plenty of servers to give a shot.
Oh, one last thing to mention. If you play, the game is very heavily group oriented. Try to get a friend or two to try it at the same time (preferrably taking a different class path). Teamwork and race cooperation make all the difference.
i got to level 31 in one night so around 8 hours i guess... lot's of complainers here.. this game is too ez and i dunno why ur complaining about gear u get a full set of gear like every 3/5 levels
----------------------------- IVE PLAYED WOW AND LIKED IT SO IM A FANBOI PLZ FLAME MY THREADS CUZ I MIGHT MENTION WOW
Looks like they just aren't making games the same quality as AC2 anymore... granted that game had iffy graphics and a pretty cheesey grind requirement but the tradeskills were beyond the time. I'd rather play WoW but i'm not a quester... grinding and grouping is where it's at... and of course PVP is what keeps me playing any game. oh well i guess i'll give rfo another shot since i'm tired of paying for a monthy.
If you would look at the Menu, we have a nice selection of pre-chewwed Gnome available for your consumption.

Yes, but it forces you to grind to achieve the gear you want. You must have had a group too, because soloing after level 20 is nearly impossible. After reaching a higher level itg just gets really slow.
Also, I don't want an easy game, I want something that makes me use my mind and makes me think before I do my actions. Just mindlessly killing things isn't for me.

then your not gonna find it in a free MMO, i would suggest trying EVE sounds like your style.
Like I've said before, soloing up to lvl46 is possible (at least for a summoner/grazier) if you play a lot. After 46 it's just taking too long and too boring. I don't recommend soloing through 38->40, but to get to 40 with a group. After that just PT and farm, especially if you'll get your hands on a +5 int weap. Lvl40-42 I farmed maps from Chooties, then some hobos and from lvl44 to 46 I farmed Calianas. Because I was in a guild, I did some parties, but it was more to help others to level.
I still think RFO is a good game and has it's basics in order and working, but it went down the hill after giga4 and especially after ep2. Plus for today's standards, game world is just too small (imo).
i really like the game when i started to play. I soloed till around 30 and got into a guild, DeathfromAbove, really cool ppl, we had daily gaming sessions and we did CW most of the times.
Like has been said before soloing can be done but is alot easier if you group. Unfortunately, Codemasters is xenophobic, and they suspended all accounts outside Europe and the US, claiming lincesing issues.
That definately killed the game for me, I even spent some money purchasing a couple of items from the cash store
RF Online looks good . Before trying this game I thought it is very good and addictive game but I played it few hours and it totally bored me. Even though I still thought it is nice game I wasn't able to play it because of this grinding and boring quests.
It could be really good MMORPG but I think that developers just left it to die ...
Btw... I don't even know how pvp looks like in RFO .
I heard some pretty good things when I first started looking up information. "The best PvP!" etc. So I downloaded it and played for about a week, got to level 25, then I realized two things. 1. The quests were bland. All they would say is "kill this many of this", and this was mainly the quests for the game. I found this very boring, and in no way what so ever did it make me interested in the game. 2. The game is mainly a grind, especially when you are a lower level. Sure when you are level 45+, mabye you can enjoy PvP, but if you are lower than that, it is extremely hard to do PvP. You have to train ALOT to get to that level as well. So in the end, I found the game repetitive and just a plain grind. They say the wars are fun, but I'm not going to grind forever just so I can do them.
im going to give u and advice, if the skills are good, and it has good battle system and the only problem in the game is grinding. belive me stick with it.
i quite rappelz for the same reason, looked all over the games to find a good one, and only found 1 which was sword of the new world. but i hate the game for one reason u dont get to do much in it, ya ya ya quest and bosses and events r fun, but u dont get to do much most skills u dont need.
the only classes u will ever think of using their skills is elemental and wizard. when i tried to get back to rappelz, it wouldnt patch.
u have two choice 1 is stay with this game or and grind game, or u can either play a p2p game or make sure u find a better game before deleting it from ur comp.
dont bother i thought i canceled it srry iy showed dont bother voting
Yeah I totally agree with the OP. I bought this game ages ago, played it for a few days and then uninstalled it. I couldnt find anything at all to like about it. The graphics were rubbish, the gameplay was boring, the character customisation was virtually non-existent, the gameworld was dull and uninspired and it took the term "grinding" to a whole new level of mind-numbing boredom. I've never looked at it since then and I never will. I did learn one good lesson from it though. I will NEVER EVER buy a korean mmo again. They make REALLY crap games!
Originally posted by neonwire ...I will NEVER EVER buy a korean mmo again. They make REALLY crap games!
Well, you won't have to. Most Korean MMOs are free to play now, heh. Oh and have you checked NCSoft's upcoming titles? I don't think Aion and Blade & Soul will be crap. Speaking of RFO, today I thought of logging back in, then I remembered that game still has unfixed hacks (like pot hacking) and no events (because CM doesn't want to buy new GM tools which is understandable).
I agree with the statement that all korean games are crap...they look nice but are crap. They really need to ditch this cash shop scam, to be competative you have to spend a ton more than a pay2play. They need to make ONE really good p2p and offer WASD instead of point/click, i think then they would actually have a decent game then.
That's one thing I don't understand with alot of people who visit these forums. What makes you think endgame has to be reachable in the first week? just because a game isn't as easy and linear as WoW or any other cliche money grabbing game, doesn't mean it hasn't got the content that players want.
People who are new to the MMO genre (mainly those who didn't play MMO's before WoW) get things handed to them too easy these days. Back in the day you had to work for things, you had to do certain things and sometimes it was bad and sometimes it was fun. There was diversity before WoW, and now days everything is too simplistic and designed towards the simple gamer.
I'm not trying to say go and find the most hardcore grinder out there but instead i'm asking you to take some time to sit back and enjoy the game without having to be at point A in the first 7 days. If you truly want to enjoy your gaming experience in any MMO you'll need to think of it as enjoyment, not a job.
Don't compare games, let them show you what they have to offer and go along for the ride.

Pro tip for OP: play MMO's for quests not pvp. If you want PvP, play a game such as this. It's simple.
