Ok then let's say you can actually find real good programmer to work for you for 50k / year. How many of those 50k per year programmers are you going to need on a team to make a game like Darkfall?  AT LEAST  8???   probably many more.

World of Warcraft had 20+ programmers and Darkfall looks like it has more features than WoW had..

    Let's be ridiculously optimistic and say 5...  5 x 50k =  $250,000 / year for just programmers.

Their grant already went bye bye on just 5 people in one year.

So unless they are being infused with like 1 million dollars a year in free grant money (which is NOT happening) they either have people working for peanuts there or are working for free...

Either way as more and more info get's spilled out it's pretty clear to see that they are a small time start up game dev studio trying to pull off a huge undertaking with very limited resources at best...

Ok youre pulling numbers out from the blue? From where do you pick these numbers?

Do you have any information on how many worked on Darkfall from mid 2003 when they started developing Darkfall? Not just fantasie numbers but some real information please.

If were gonna discuss this seriously we cant have people making up numbers from nowhere, can we?

And since Greece is a comparably cheap country to live in compared with Western Europe and US the salarys could be less but still good, see my point?

there making way less than 50k a year

You do realize it takes a hell of a lot more money than 260 grand to do anything worthwhile right?

The only thing this proves , if true , is that Aventurine isn't the big time company most of the crazy fanboys always believed.  Of course most commen sense people already knew that...

Living off of hand out money grants and trying to build a MMORPG = not good sign.

What kind of workers can you hire relying on state grants??  Not professionals that's for sure.

Right, you do realise Aventurine was founded with 264k€, around 335k$, and this sum covered the costs for founding the company, not for continuously running it. Obviously alot of people who responded here do not know the first thing about business.

I don’t think you seem to understand the basic principles of a good translation.
If he’s Greek but has trouble writing in English then his translation will obviously not be very good, we need a person who is fluent in both Greek and English for a reasonably accurate translation.

Im well informed in contrast to the many vaporware trolls replying on this forum. You get well informed if you followed the game since 2001.

The Norway team before they moved to Greece was 4 enthusiasts with a dream, no disrespect of course.

     A quote from http://rpgvault.ign.com/articles/671/671666p2.html

Jonric: When Darkfall moved from Norway to Greece, what was the size of the team, and how much has it grown since then?

    Jade El Mehdawi:
We formed a new team and a new company, Aventurine, integrating the original Razorwax people, with the plan to continue developing the technology and the game in Greece. The Razorwax team in Norway consisted of four people working full-time and a couple more contributors with day jobs.

Aventurine was formed in October 2002, and it integrated the original Razorwax people. We hired five more developers in Norway, and brought them all to Greece. Now, there are 21 developers working at Aventurine, plus a number of support personnel (accounting, legal), contractors and interns.

    21 developers, not 14.

You can say more or less that serious development of the game Darkfall started 2003. Darkfall have been in serious development for about 5 years now. Remember that Darkfall is a way larger and complex game then World of Warcraft. World of Warcraft took 6 years to develop. And that Aventurine SA isnt Blizzard so to me theyre doing a hell of a developing.

I hope even you see the differences btw these numbers. More money and lower costs was also something beneficial for the game of course.

You have terrible reading comprehension, or are incapable of accurately interpreting information objectively.

Your link is to an article from November 28 2005, and he says now, there are 21 developers.

As my link clearly proves the developers publicly stated they had 14 developers in 2002 after they moved to Greece.

I love how most DF threads keep getting more and more colorfuly, with every increasing font sizes.

Sounds like the DF team has been growing over the years, but hard to say where they stand now since most of the info we have is a bit old.  Could be a lot more...could be a lot less.

Wouldnt call it owned tbh. But i agree i made a mistake.

Point was that he made me point out that the developers were alot more 2005 then 2002 which i think is something beneficial for the game.

And see, now were talking about a game that "exists" not being a hoax. I think the last week of informating the MMORPG.com Darkfall board about facts have been successful for the fanbois side. The vaporware trolls is on defence.

Darkfall fanbois is owning the trolls.

Aragon100, thank you.  That interview right there shows me that they are not some major Greek defense contractor as some people claim.  Aventurine was formed in October 2002 to develop the technology and the game in Greece.  No way in hell these guys are the defense contractor with the Lybian connection that others seem to claim.  I believe there is more than one Aventurine company running around Greece and we are confusing the two.

Fear not fanbois, we are not trolls, let's take off your tin foil hat and learn what VAPORWARE is:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vaporware

"Vaporware is a term used to describe a software or hardware product that is announced by a developer well in advance of release, but which then fails to emerge after having well exceeded the period of development time that was initially claimed or would normally be expected for the development cycle of a similar product."

Actually Aventurine SA is the same company that develops Darkfall and the Greek Defence contractor. That have already been sorted out since there is just one company in Europe with that name. If you want a quote on that i probably could find it again. Or you maybe just take my word for it? Hehe.

Aventurine is also sponsoring athlete events. A company with no funds wouldnt do that, would they.

Aventurine SA is also one company in a larger concern. That is making me feel alot better since the mothercompany could back em.

Lastly- its nothing strange that Greeks having business with the Libyans. Not saying Aventurine does it, but its very common since theyre neighbours. And i rather see them having business connections with the Libyans then the Bush administration.

Ok found the quote about Aventurine SA. 26th of january 2007.

    http://df.warcry.com/news/view/68059
Tasos Flambouras: Aventurine currently employs 24 developers in-house and six professional contractors. The staff is international from Norway, Greece, Italy, the UK, the US, Denmark, and France. Its activities, other than Darkfall, are research into game and simulation technologies. We've also advised war-game simulation military projects in the past through other companies in our group, activities that have given us some valuable perspectives to be used in game development. The company also sponsors and supports sporting events, athletes, and competitive gaming tournaments. Aventurine is organized under the laws of Greece and the European Union as an S.A. Corporation. Sorry to disappoint you Aragon100 but the only reason why I posted part of my reply in larger type was because I find it helps people to understand who have reading comprehension problems.

Let me remind you that the only reason (which you seemed to of forgotten) why I posted the links showing when they publicaly announced they had started developing Darkfall and there teams sizes from 2001 and 2002/3 was because they where relevant to your earlier question:-

"Do you have any information on how many worked on Darkfall from mid 2003 when they started developing Darkfall? Not just fantasie numbers but some real information please."

So together we can inform the Darkfall board readers that the development staff were 14 in 2002. Increased to 21 in 2005 and 24 + 6 contractors in 2007. GG. I sincerely thank you.

For such a vocal supporter of Darkfall and its developers you don’t appear to be very well informed.

The public announcement of Darkfalls development was made in 2001 and they had 5 members on the team, how long they had been working on the game before the public announcement is a mater of contention.

In 2002 after Razorwax signed a publishing deal with Aventurine and moved to Greece they had a team of 14 members with plans to hire 3 more.

Is it just me or does anyone else find it very strange that 4 self-proclaimed hobbiests making Darkfall Online move their company to Greece forming Aventurine.  The become war-game simulation developers for the government while building Darkfall Online.  The entire Aventure/Darkfall online this is bazarre to say the least.  How do they go form forming Aventurine in 2002 to this mysterious group that is doing military projects?  This is indeed very strange.

Why didnt you EVEN bother reading the Darkfall developers thread i delivered to you?

    http://df.warcry.com/news/view/68059

    Having reading comprehension difficulties?

Really amazing that you cant be that serious here on the board that you accually read the information presented to you? Too me it make you a Darkfall troll, nothing else. Good to know who you are.

    Here you have some reasons:
Tasos Flambouras-  Aventurine was originally formed to fund and publish Darkfall. The development team was in Norway, at the time it was four developers working on design, concepting, and prototyping. While working with Razorwax to put the development team together we realized how high the operating costs, and the cost of living is in Norway. We decided to move our activities to Greece under Aventurine to get more game for our money. It took a while to organize and assemble the team and to get into full production which started about three and a half years ago. Aventurine was now developing the technology, the tools, and the game. At the time this project started there was no technology available that would allow us to do what we wanted, so everything had to be made from scratch.

Our unofficial tagline and battle cry for Darkfall development is "No compromise". We've had vertical slices of the game before, and we considered moving towards a launch a couple of years ago. We didn't go forward because, to put it simply, we all knew we could do so much better if we gave it more time, and we had the resources to do so. I believe that the resulting game can stand up to any MMO out there and it's much more than the game we originally committed to making.
Dude, I guess I'm having a lot of problems because I still don't see how a team of 4 developers making DARKFALL ONLINE gets side tracked making similators for the Greek government.   Maybe you can connect the dots, but I fail to see the connection.

The original developer of Darkfall was named Razorwax. They meet Aventurine in early 2003. When they had the same goals they decided to join forces. And Aventurine was already doing prejects for the greek military. And if you want something real to be done...you joiin the military. Just as Snoop Dog did.

Razorwax, the 4 guys in Norway merged together with Aventurine late 2002. And full production started mid 2003.

Article http://df.warcry.com/news/view/68059 from 26/1 2007 and i quote- Tasos Flambouras: It took a while to organize and assemble the team and to get into full production which started about three and a half years ago.      Article is from 26:th of januari 2007 and they been in full production for 3 1/2 year. 2008 they been in full production for + 4 1/2 year. Not that long for such a game as Darkfall.
